Hey Elvis, glad to see you back, missed ya ! Your right, you don't need to spend hundreds even thousands of dollars on a spotting scope. Mine is a 25-60X60 from Harbor Freight with case and tripod for $60.00. It works great, tripod not so much but free !

recently got a vintage bushnell spacemaster in like new condition at goodwill for $3.99, can't do better than that i think. snatched that shit off the shelf the instant i saw it. it also has a screw on t-mount adapter, so i can put my D\SLR cameras on there.

I know you are talking about budget spotting scopes, but I would recommend a Manfrotto/Bogen tripod. Yeah, you can buy 4 spotting scopes for the price of a used Bogen, but you can sit on that tripod in a tornado and it will not move. You can also buy spiked feet for them for use in snow and ice.
