    Hi, I've missed your videos! I was wondering, can you please make a video on how to train to pick an ace card out of other options, shake their head no, and nod yes? I noticed that you had videos that showed your birds doing that, but not a tutorial. Thanks, and I always enjoy your videos!!!

    A tip: wet the birds nail and then file it and it will be so easier!
    I know I am sooooo late but can I use a nail file instead on a clipper, bc I am scared to use a clipper! And go slowlyy and file their footsie while giving treats?

    Could you do a video on how to bird proof a room or your favourite toys? I'm currently setting up a new cage for my new bird and I only see what NOT to buy. It's hard to find toys that match every standard. Love your videos! Please do more

    • @jessconsidine9919
      @jessconsidine9919 6 років тому

      Also, I saw that you did a video on bird items in general but could you do one just for toys?

    • @Godspurpose70
      @Godspurpose70 6 років тому +4

      CeramicKangaroo Get a variety of toys like Grace said. I had bought a variety of toys for my birds and noticed that they like the shreddable ones. So that's what I get them now. Some like the plastic, some wood or some like all varieties so it depends on what your bird likes. And also be very careful what you put in the cage. Some things there feet, beak or nails can get caught on or can strangle themselves. I check their toys in the cage every other day to make sure they're aren't broken pieces or loose. If they are I take them out. If you need more help I don't know if you know there's bird groups on facebook and are very helpful. You can post pics of your bird or birds and ask questions if you need help.. I hope everything works out. And yes this young lady's videos are awesome! She's very good & patient

      Discover PARROTS what are you using as treat/rewards?

    • @DiscoverPARROTS
      @DiscoverPARROTS 6 років тому +1

      For trimming claws, I don’t use any treats. I just hug and kiss him after the procedure. I can do that because we have a strong bond and trust each other. For flying on command I use bits of pellets and small seeds like hemp, sunflower hearts, lentils, etc. Also bits of apple. I try to vary the reward.

    Even as a human I'm terrified of nail clippers, it must be way worse with birds... You did a great job, bless you. 🙏
    What I'm wondering is how it works in the nature. Will their nails just use themselves up because the birds are much more active in the wild?

    I trimmed my birds nail and nicked the quick in order to collect DNA. If you’re doing this you want to just nick the quick. In the case that your bird does bleed, purposely or accidentally, have some flour on hand. Birds blood clots very slowly so always have some flour on hand. Cornstarch works as well, some ppl have used soap.

    • @emilyjew-wor-ski6630
      @emilyjew-wor-ski6630 5 років тому

      Kizerrain I don’t think soap is a good option, I just worry about it getting into the blood stream or causing irritation

I bought a feather bright light bulb for my budgie after seeing them recommended in one of these videos and the before and after on his beak is incredible! His beak used to look so dried out but now it's smooth and shiny and he even seems to have an extra boost in energy for an already very energetic little bird.

    Critical oversight. You MUST have corn starch or kwik-stop readily at hand to apply with wet Qtips if bleeding does occur.

    So I have taken my bird to 3 different avian vets in the city and all of them have cut into the quick and made each of his nails bleed. They relied on stypic powder to stop the bleeding and it really upset me to see them do this. His nails were far too short. I resorted to using a dremel on him myself (my husband just holds him in his hands and he doesn't bite us), but it is still very stressful for him and it would be nice to get him to be more willing to let me do it without having to hold him, or even use a nail file. Not all vets are knowledgeable as it turns out. Ours are still feeding their parrots seed and not giving them any enrichment :(.

    Hey if anyone could help me id really appreciate it. I have 4 budgies that ive had for around 6 months. Im always very careful around them not to make loud noises i sit with them all day. They have a huge cafe. Sometimes i let them out to get extra exorcise but, I really want to hand tame them but no matter what i do they are TERRIFIED of my hand. They eat a diet of pellets and fruit and veggies. I try offering them seeds as a treat and they dont want them in my hand. I keep their cage next to my work desk all day they seem happy and content until I move my hand outside of the cage. i put my hand next to their cage everyday sometimes for up to an hour and they havent made any progress. Im so sad because i want to have a bond with my birds but i dont think they want one with me.

    Is using nail files a safe alternative to this? I'm a relatively new bird owner and want to start cutting my own conure's nails (my bird store decided to clip his wings recently despite me telling them not to) but I'm not comfortable with the idea that I could hurt him while doing so.

    • @FlockTalk
      @FlockTalk  3 роки тому

      Nail files are totally fine, I would aim for one that’s a finer grain so it’s less likely to cause damage to the nail. I just start training trimming with clippers because it’s less steps, one quick snip vs having to adjust to long hold time, vibrations, and lots of movement.

    Hello. I got myself 2 lovebirds. But they are very affraid of me. I try to take them out of the cage by catching them in the cage. • @berenicemendoza7570
      @berenicemendoza7570 4 роки тому

      michaela2b don’t catch them with your hands, that will make them loose trust in you, open there cage door and let them come out on there own terms. Keep em in a area where there will generally be people so they get used to the sound and people. Btw how are they it’s been 2 years?

    my bird knows how to wave but only at one spot of the cage she doesnt know how to do it on the floor is this normal)

    • @FlockTalk
      @FlockTalk  4 роки тому

      To some extent that is normal, standing flat on the ground holds them in a very different position which makes lifting the leg vertically to wave very difficult. Most birds generally have difficulty with presenting behaviours in new places to start so you tend to have to “re-teach” the behaviour in new places until they understand that your cues mean in the same thing in different places/ environments/ perches

It said " if you use a command to potty train them then they won't go potty till you give them the command which may result in them holding it in for too long causing injury to their tiny intestines " .... So what I basically want is them to know where to go potty and where not to go for example like they are allowed to go in their cage and not on the sofa .... Thx BTW
