  • Vaping is rapidly taking over the smoking scene, touted as a healthier way of curbing cigarette addiction. And with it, the public discourse around the product has been getting heated, with misinformation spouted on both sides. We all (probably) know that vapes aren’t the greatest for you, but could they actually be making addiction worse?

Smoking and drinking overall is mostly consumed because of some form of peer pressure, even if it was 100% your choice, just the sheer facts that you seen other people do it it made you curious to try it yourself.
If you never seen a cigarette or Vape or a beer bottle in your life you wouldn't be aware that you needed to smoke or drink to have "Fun" or to "Relax" you
      Both are highly overrated

Maybe but what are the stats like? Tobacco has been taking in roughly 11% of people hitting age of majority as "new customers for life" as their business model for a long time. The reason they're shanking vaping is because it's killing their market. (like 90% of the issues Future Proof raised there are features intentionally introduced by tobacco companies to sabotage the market - non-BT vape companies don't do that shit)

For myself, vaping was almost like a cheat code for quitting cigarettes. It made it incredibly easy for me. The problem was, I continued to vape for 3 years after quitting cigarettes. So while I felt a lot better physically (better lung capacity, no smoker's cough, etc) and saved a lot of money, I ended up trading habits in the end. Two years nicotine free now and never going back.

I stopped smoking on April 24 this year (just 10 days ago) and switched to vaping because I just didn't like how it made my lungs feel anymore... after a week of vaping, I smoked a cigarette and let me tell you I felt kinda disgusted by its taste and smell and threw it away after 2,3 puffs. It was the weirdest thing, I barely realised it tasted like that when I was regularly smoking. The other day I was at the train station and a dude was smoking nearby me, and I couldn't stand the smell and had to move away. Really gives you a perspective... since I have started vaping, I can honestly say I can breathe better, I don't smell like an ashtray anymore, and overall I feel better and more balanced if you know what I mean. I don't think I'll ever go back to smoking cigarettes, ever. I am planning to reduce my nicotine dose to zero in the next couple of months and then stop vaping altogether. The message is clear if you smoke, switch to vape, if you dont smoke, dont vape. good luck

I think something else that’s important to mention when talking about disposable vapes is that they are not under the same laws as refillable or pods. Disposable vapes can still have fruity flavors whereas most pod products cannot. In addition if you’re a kid its a lot easier to buy a disposable and have their parents take it than a whole expensive device. These are just things I’ve noticed as someone who went to high school and now college through the vape epidemic.

Most people over a certain age don’t smoke because it’s cool, they smoke because it’s an impulse, an addiction, and those associations of the ritual and the inhale etc, is all a part of why people smoke, it’s the same reason why vapes have actually been rising in popularity so much, it’s just like smoking, but with its own ritual and associations, delivering the same product, albiet in a much less disgusting and much less harmful manner.. like 100x less harmful and dangerous, it’s an issue with addiction rather than vaping specifically though in all honesty, just like coffee, or alcohol, etc

The arguments against vaping conflate a lot of problems and non-problems that have nothing to do with each other. The consistency of vaping liquid comes from glycerine, which is a food ingredient used in cakes and confectionery - you can buy bottles of it in the baking aisle of your supermarket. The mist effect comes from propylene glycol, which is use both as a food ingredient and - get this - in aerosol inhalers used to treat medical conditions such as asthma! The flavourings used are also food ingredients. Yes, the nicotine in vapes is addictive, but its only consequence other than making you want more of it are occasional slight heart rate and blood pressure spikes in some users, which you'll also get from sex, tennis, dancing or watching good action movies. It's entirely unlike addictive classified drugs or alcohol. No-one ever robbed someone, crashed a car or beat up their partner under the influence of nicotine. It's need-creating but in itself effectively harmless. Any other substances in vaping liquid are in such tiny concentrations as to be inconsequential. Yes, selling fruity vapes containing nicotine to kids is bad. Yes, the use of disposable vapes is bad. Yes, vaping can make you ill if you incompetently try to make your own e-liquid, or use vapes from unregulated sources. However, all of these are separate issues that need to be dealt with individually through control and laws. For adult ex-smokers who purchase and use vaping materials responsibly, vaping remains a massively safer alternative to tobacco. Of course, the one factor that never gets addressed is that some people just resent the idea of smokers getting away with it...

@@sander9951 it's actually a lot less addictive compared to cigarettes for one simple reason: the nicotine in vapes works way slower than in tobacco cigarettes. I am in my 10th year smoke free thanks to vaping. No, it is not 100% harmless but neither is a lot of the stuff in your fridge.
As far as uncertainty with regards to long term health effects, British scientists have conducted studies based on bio markers. These should tell us a lot of long term effects. According to them the measurings are similar to persons who use other nicotine products like gum or patches.
Agree with you that youth and non-smokers should not touch it. For a long time vaping was a sub culture for enthusiasts and hobbyists who wanted to quit smoking, but then brands like Juul came along and gave it a bad name. This was actually prior to Altria (who owns Marlboro) bought a 35% stake of it.
Some things in your video are flat out wrong. The EVALI cases had nothing to do with nicotine vaping. They were caused by illicit THC cartridges with some kind of oil which releases toxic fumes when heated. Yes, they were consumed in regular vaping devices but don't tell me all spoons are bad just because you can use them to consume cyanide.
And no, shishas are not electronic vaping devices, which you make it seem like they are in the video.
Be careful with painting vaping in a solely negative light. Remember there are lots of us it has helped quit smoking and probably saved our lives. At least mine, my neighbor and a couple of friends. If someone who smokes and considers vaping (which while still not ideal is a lot better than smoking), they might be turned off by videos like these. Please present a more balanced view with more pros and cons and ecourage smokers who can't quit otherwise to try it, like the British health authorities, my doctor and many other scientists.

Went to my doctors when I started and took lung X-rays and in each follow up there is physical improvement. Vaping saved my life or at the very least let me have a better one and yes its clear that its not good for you but scientifically proven to be much more safer then smoking.
As for the main point of your video I agree that the market did what it does best and intentionally marketed to attract new consumers beyond smokers and that's where all the public health sections should have paid attention but big tobacco still holds much power in government.
Not sure of the US landscape but in Canada there has been a great deal done to discourage new addiction by ways of reducing marketing and not to mention the new excess tax. BC has been the biggest regulators on vaping to minimize attracting non smokers and youth, seeing that the talent on this UA-cam channel are from BC, it's funny none of that was mentioned.
Love this channel but have to say I was very disappointed in this one as it was one sided which gave a feel that it had an agenda, was it also sponsored by big tobacco? You guys are better then this, tisk tisk

I honestly wanna see more studies done on long term exposure to second hand vape smoke. My ex room mate kept arguing that I Should allow her to vape indoors because second hand vape smoke isn't harmful, and I am just not convinced.

    • @1996Horst

@@leifmeadows3782 Well the smoke does contain a smal part of what was in the liquid as well as CO2 and other fine particles caused by the heating of cotton and metal as well as the liquid.
When I went on my search I found a few things, but most of them are very obviously biased. One had a list of "Toxic and harmful chemicals found in Vape smoke" which included Propelyne Glycol. Which is used in the production of polimers, Used as a thickener in many forms and industries and it is also used in almost every syrup, sweetener and much much more in every kitchen in the world world wide.
The Most dangerous thing, which is still not fully clear how it behaves, as most studies on the subject removed reality from the testing (E.g. leaving cells in an enclosed space during testing for days making it impossible for the vaping smoke to disperse and instead causing it to liquify again) is Acrolein. A Byproduc of the heating of Propelyne Glycol which causes cell degradation and is linked to cancer. But due to how the Vape behaves it is hard how much effect it really has. In typical cigaret smoke the smoke is nothing but ash which will settle down once inhaled even in small quantities. Vape smoke is a liquid which does not settle so easily.
But for your question. It is certain that Vape smoke is containing more harmfull substances than most City air and it is therefore sth you can avoid by asking Vape smokers to vape outdors or in designates smoking areas.
While it is not certain if it is less or more harmfull than second hand smoke, it is certain that it contains harmfull particles and chemicals not traditionally found in most city air.

Personally, I've been vaping for almost 2 years now after being a cigarette smoker for nearly 15 years. It's been about a year and a half since I last had a cigarette, and I've notched down the nicotine content in the liquid I use to 0mg. Just like using patches, I went from a 25 mg salt, to 6 regular liquid, to 3, then 0. It's been a huge boon for me personally after trying to quit at at least a dozen times. It's unfortunate but I also think the pandemic helped immensely, as going out to bars/social events made my exposure to possibly bumming a cigarette to zero. I've been on 0 mg liquid for about a month now and I've been using my vape less and less.
If I could say a big personal issue of vaping for me is the ease of use environmentally than cigarettes. What I mean is that it's easy to use in places that you wouldn't smoke a cigarette. I was vaping in my home all the time which was much worse for my nicotine intake than when I smoke cigarettes at the time. This was because I never smoked cigarettes inside, so it was much harder to chain smoke compared to sitting in my house chain vaping without even thinking about it.

Big corporate vape is different than how vaping began.
Before corps intruded the vaping scene, "Juice" was used to help people carve their addictions. "Juice" came in different strengths, basically how much nicotine was in the mixture. 1 - 100mg.
If you were addicted to cigarettes and smoked a pack a day and then found vaping. Not having to deal with the smoke or smell plus having a way to keep track of your intake other than "I smoke a pack a day" helped many to quit smoking cigarettes.
The intent of the OG vaping community is about providing a better alternative to cigarettes.
The corporate vaping "community" is about finding a new entry to get people addicted.

I had no memory of having watched this lol (the video is now 5 months old).
I've vaped for 8-10 years. I started with disposables but never really liked them. Then I went to the thin ones with refillable cartimizers (sp) that were rechargeable. I loved them until the coils went to crap. Then I discovered the box mods and flat mesh that's used as a coil.
I started as a dual user. I smoked 4 packs of marlboro menthol almost every day. When I finally found a juice I loved, I smoked less and less until I just quit. Smoking tastes like ash. Vaping is all vanilla, clove, or berries and cream :D
I used to affordably buy my juices on-line. The government killed that. I'm about to start making my own. Local shops never consistently stock flavors I love and the price is twice as much for half as much.
Go after parents and shops who enable the youth and companies that exploit them. Leave the vape industry alone. They were doing well before the long con of Big Tobacco.
If the government insists on getting rid of flavors, then start with Birthday Cake Vodka and the likes. If such flavors are only enticing to children, don't be hypocritical.
I've been at 6mg nicotine, in my vapes, since I switched to the box mods some 5-6 years ago (before then, I was at 12). I have no interest in quitting.
I feel it is safer than smoking but we do not know the long term effects. People who proclaim vaping to be completely safe annoy me just as much as those who demonize it. We just don't know enough yet, to say either way.
Just, keep it away from kids and let adults do their thing.

If youre on the go, just throw the butt back in your pack. I use a vape now anyway, definitely made it easy to get off the cigarettes. I know its not harmless, but I also know alot of the studies being pushed on us were funded by big tobacco.

Nobody talks about the buzz it gives you. I don't advocate smoking or vaping and wish I never started, but that was why I smoked the occasional cigar and then completely switched to vaping. It was never to look cool, I don't care and am fairly antisocial. While it relaxes and lowers anxiety, nicotine withdrawal also causes it. Vicious circle. I strongly discourage smoking and vaping because nicotine is insanely addictive. Great video, love the channel!

Hi, 46 years old here, I quit smoking completely about 5 years ago, and started vaping instead. I go with menthol, as that was what I was smoking. I am never going back to smoking. As an added incentive, menthol cigs are banned in the EU (I live in Denmark). I'm still vaping, but on a small, refillable form factor. I work in a high stress environment (chef) so the vape gives me short (30-60 seconds) breaks a day, to collect my thoughts. Our government has forbidden any flavouring except tobacco & menthol for vapes, to discourage youth vaping. Also, they've doubled the prices by taxing. For me, this works, and I really, really will never inhale another cigarette. I get tired of clever ppl telling me vaping is just as bad as cigarettes, to me, they don't know what they're talking about. I've chosen the lesser of 2 evils, and that's fine for me.

One of the worst things about vapes is that they don't stink and it's easy to sneak a couple of puffs in, which sounds like benefits but it means people might be vaping without fearing the stink of cigarettes, they won't dedicate a specific time and place for it, while with cigarettes the individual might decide to not smoke in public or if they know that they might be in the company of other people anytime soon, it could be because it simply stinks and they don't want to bother other people or because they might want to hide it, which also means a teen won't get caught nor do they fear getting caught as much, you could also have just a couple of puffs while with cigarettes the individual will probably decide not to waste the cigarette and finish it so you need to dedicate a few minutes for a smoke, meaning it is harder to fit in if you are busy, so while it's not as bad for you in terms of health and relationships it also means there is less pressure to quit, cut down or pace yourself.

Personally, I started smoking cigarettes in highschool, and smoked for about a year before my body literally wouldn't let me finish not even half of a stick. I would get nauseous and light headed. So I switched to vaping, which I've been doing for about 5ish years now.
Me smoking and then vaping was used as a coping mechanism for dealing with abuse, and now that I am finally out of that situation and healing I am slowly going down in my nicotine intake. I tried quitting cold turkey once, but that wasn't for me. I'm currently almost done with my 6mg bottle and will be going down again once I purchase the next one. Im really looking forward to kicking this stupid addiction.
When I was in school, all of my friends either smoked cigarettes or weed, or were vaping. Hell most of them were doing all of it. My friend group at the time didn't have the best life, so I get it. Hell thats why I started. But for me, smoking and vaping was never about looking cool or pushing out the biggest clouds. Even to this day I find the box mods with enormous clouds obnoxious. But I did feel cool when smoking at the 'pit' at my school, and I hate that its even a feeling to begin with.
Smoking or vaping isn't cool, and I wish that more young adults and teenagers could understand that. I'm now dealing with numerous health issues at 21 and I don't know what percentage of that has to do with genetics versus my smoking habits, but I'm sure it can't be helping it either. Ive been sober for about 6-8 months, and I can't wait until I'm 100% sober (Alcohol, nicotine). Addictive genes are no fun, and my wallet will be happier when I kick this habit as well.

I have been Vaping for 12 years now and this type of video has already been made several times I lost count. What surprises me till this day I have not heard facts of how vaping can be bad for you. It has always been a guesstimate that vaping can probably be bad and not is bad. Vaping has got me off cigarettes and alcohol because those two things go together. At this very moment tobacco and alcohol has taken a significant drop in sales and they always want to point the finger. It has ben exposed that certain videos like this are paid either by medical or tobacco entities. The UK supported caping and even doctors prescribed a vape for someone who had trouble with smoking tobacco. When it boils down to it the only thing that can be arguably bad is nicotine that its a highly addictive, but it is very similar to caffeine and they both are addictive and thin the blood. But we aren't going to say the morning cup of joe is bad for you are we? lol Uk Doctors talk about vaping is like similar to drinking coffee and I totally agree with that.

When vaping first came out it worked well for me. I had smoked cigarettes for 10 years, and in the early 2010's started vaping. It did have its benefits: it was cheaper, I could breathe better, I didn't smell like smoke, I didn't have ash burns in my car and on my clothes, it was less offensive to use around other people, and I could just take a couple of puffs when needed instead of committing to smoking an entire cigarette if I just wanted a small nicotine fix. HOWEVER, the first problem I noticed was within a couple of years, the majority of people I knew who vaped used to be former cigarette smokers, then it became young kids who never smoked at all and vaping was now their introduction to nicotine which I didn't agree with. Personally, I realized I probably vape more than I smoke because I can take a puff here or there all day long in virtually any environment, while cigarettes forced me to go to a designated area and only smoke until the cigarette burned out. Do I think vaping is the lesser of 2 evils? Yes, it's definitely better to vape (if it's a reputable vape juice and device) than smoke. Yet, anyone who argues that vaping is harmless is foolish. Not smoking OR vaping is still the healthiest option and always will be.

I think it's important to distinguish between cannabis and nicotine vapes. For example, he mentions the Volcano multiple times to drive home the absurdity of it, but it's not made for nicotine or vape juice or anything besides dry herb. Essentially it just warms up your cannabis or whatever else you put in it without burning it, it's just a tiny oven. Cartridge vapes are different because it is a liquid you're vaporizing and inhaling, but if you're buying them from a legal dispensary that's compliant with safety regulations then the only thing to even consider being worried about is the fact that you're heating up metal and ceramic to very high temperatures in order to vaporize that oil - something that could release any number of toxic chemicals into your product depending on the quality of the materials in the device. Other than that, there's no evidence to suggest that vaporizing cannabis would pose any kind of risk to your health the same way inhaling smoke would.

I (20M) am very afraid to say anything negative about vaping, given the absolute hysteria surrounding it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out that perhaps vaping isn’t that great in the long term.
I do remember back in 2015 when I was just 13, that anyone of any age could buy vapes and they became very popular for a bit. So I’m at least glad that now you have to be an adult to buy them, though even after the ban they only became more popular while I was in high school.
Now that I’m in college it seems like nobody cares anymore and vaping is kinda like tea drinking (in the U.S), it’s a little unusual but not stigmatized.

There is no way vapping is as bad or additive as cigarettes. Those 7k chemicals are to make cigs more additive, and by a large margin, they also make it worse for health, not to mention the tar. Nicotine outside of combustible is about as additive as caffeine. I am not saying vapes are without health concerns. The nicotine salts in products like juul are definitely bad. But the vg and pg are also in fog machine juice. My main worries are the hot vapper, potentially some flavors, and the harshness of the nicotine on the back of the throat. And, of course, developing brains.

I've been vaping since 2012. I've vaped many different products in that time. I've worked in the vape industry. I've seen good and bad products. I've seen and used advanced products that are not aimed for those that are uninformed such as mech mods and rebuildable atomisers. If vapes didn't exist I would have continued to smoke it's that simple and I believe if they wasn't around people would simply smoke cigarettes including teens which is how I was introduced to smoking. Vapes tend to get a lots of negative press. But it's rare that I see the same about other things like energy drinks, fast food restaurants, so called health supplements. To the point many are advertised. Can you imagine making it a legal age requirement to eat at McDonald's and other such places because as we each year more and more of them are opening. In fact they even incentives youths to eat there by including toys with happy meals. If vapes are to be banned then so should everything else. Personally I believe I should be able to do as I wish. Can you imagine banning coffee, tea, alcohol, fast food, or health supplements because they aren't FDA approved. People should be free to choose.

One of the few times I've disagreed with the videos on this channel. I agree about disposable vapes and pods, and I agree that under 18's (or even under 25's!) shouldn't have access to them, but that's about it. There's well over a decade of research on vaping and health, and whilst we don't know for sure what the very long term impact is, it's generally agreed that it's considerably safer than smoking. Nicotine itself isn't particularly harmful, no more so really than caffeine. Outlaw disposables/pods, age limit to adults only and I think it's better in everyway than smoking. Sure, be good to have more research, but after 15 - 20 years of people really hitting vaping hard, but we do have knowledge on a fair few of the ingredients too, the worst case scenario is that heavy use over a prolonged period could be cancerous. In that way it's better environmentally than smoking and on-par with the health risks. But really, with the low number of ingredients compared to cigarettes the probability it's anywhere near as bad in the long term is very small.

I think old school pipes and hookahs are different to modern devices. Somehow when I tried smoking cigarettes they hit harder and made my lungs feel worse than my pipe ever did. Tobacco that is meant for pipes and hookahs is probably less processed and has less additives than whatever is being put into cigarettes. And I can't stand inhaling IQOS nor vapes. For a long time I didn't even have a physical addiction to pipe tobacco, though unfortunately eventually I acquired it, but it still doesn't compel me to smoke all the time because pipe smoking is very involved and there is this whole process around it, so it's the opposite of convenient, which is good. It's weird that in some ways the oldest smoking methods are better than all the new trends.

I never got into the fad of cigarettes nor even e-cigs/vaping. It started around when I was in my 1st year in college and my cousin and some friends were getting into it and were convincing me. At that point I already knew the real issue with cigs was the nicotine, and with them talking about vaping containing less, to me it was still something that I can be prone to being addictive, less or not. So I just never got into it regardless of social factors, it was also around the time I went from being a fat slob during high school to more working out at the gym and started to lifting weights during college, so you know I was in a health craze at the time and studying up health and bodybuilding science so it was kinda obvious to me at that point I wouldn't be starting getting into vaping and would rather spend money on whey protein and food.
If I did puff one smoke, I don't know if I'll get addicted right away or not. I'm pretty sure it'll take multiple attempts, after all even in my late 20s now I never got into drinking outside social situations and literally only did 1 smoke of weed, and I stg smoking weed for the first time was probably the worst thing I've ever did to my throat so far, it made it so dry and coarse. I got high but not to the point of being totally dazed and even when it was somewhat of a fun experience I never got back into it the 2nd time, but I do get why some ppl smoke it a lot for the hallucegenic factors.

"....I already knew the real issue with cigs was the nicotine....."
Wrong. Nicotine is in broccoli and some other plants and is harmless unless you drink large portions of 100% nicotine. The killers inside cigarettes isn't the nicotine - it's the ~750+ other chemicals and carcinogens that are the result of additives and the burning process. Things like:
      arsenic,
      diacetyl,
      tar (in paved roads),
      benzene,
      formalehyde (embalming fluid),
      ammonia,
      polomium 210 (radioactive),
      acetone,
      carbon monoxide,
      naphthalene (mothballs),
      methanol (in rocket fuel),
      cadmium (in battery acid),
      lead,
toluene (used in making paint) - and among many, many other additives.
Also, tobacco and cigarette smoke has these chemicals and carcinogens in them that eliquids and sub-ohm vaping doesn't have at all. It's not the nicotine at all - it's the additives and carcinogens from the burning and the smoke.....

@@Ezees23 you literally had to comment without actually understanding the context of the entire comment huh?
No shit it's the carcinogens and others that is the danger of smoking, but that wasn't the point at all I was talking about. The issue with smoking IS the nicotine because it's addictive. No one would be smoking if it wasn't addictive. That's like saying "oh sugar is dangerous because it leads to heart disease, diabetes, etc." well no shit it's dangerous, but because it's SWEET it's addictive and that is the real issue why people would rather eat sweet foods than leafy green vegetables.
The entire context of the video is what I was referring to, which was discussing nicotine also existing in vaping which CAN lead to eventual smoking of cigarettes and tobacco. That doesn't really undermine why nicotine is a dangerous substance at high dosage due to its addictive nature. The fact that you would look at the effects rather than the cause of why, really tells you overlooked the entire context of the video and my comment.

If you're used to nicotine product being a flavor that's actually enjoyable, why would you start smoking cigarettes? Also, Big Tobacco is a minority in the vaping industry. Most companies Who are prominent in the vaping industry are significantly smaller than Altria/PMI; however, they hold a larger control over the market than their big tobacco counterparts
Edit: nicotine vaping and cannabis vaping are not synonymous, despite the CDC and FDA would like you to believe.

I have reactive airway disorder (basically, asthma's little brother - it restricts rather than obstructs breathing) and for a while it was SO much worse when vaping came out. People would treat it as if it was totally exempt from all smoking regulations and just vape literally anywhere with no concern over the harm they were visibly causing to people around them. I went to Naka-Kon, an anime con in Overland Park, KS, and it was in a U shaped hotel with a huge hill on the third side that created sort of an enclosed space. During the break between sessions I tried to go outside but it was a literal wall of vape cloud that poured into the building anytime someone opened a door and I had to get to the top floor lobby and leave the hotel area to be able to gradually start breathing properly again.
It's better now because people are gradually dropping it. For a while people were switching to the fruit or other non-nicotine flavors, but now I rarely see it at all. There was a flurry of stories that came out about people being permanently harmed by vaping even with non-nicotine cartridges which correlated with the drop-off, but also correlated with it was a bigger stance in the area that it would be restricted the same as smoking.

My dad used to smoke a pipe when I was a kid and one day stopped. I didn't ask about it until he was on my Mother's case about quitting years later. He said he quit cold turkey and traded the habit for chewing gum and it was brutally hard even for him. His motivation...was not on health. It was that the bag of tobacco went from $1.00 to a $1.50. He'd lose his mind if he knew a carton was $85 now. I thought it was crazy a few years ago when that carton was $35.

There were new regulations in Canada which limited nicotine content in vapes to 2%, down from 5% (It might not seem like a lot but it really does make a huge difference) and ever since then the vaping market's been a wild west. The concept of "boosted" juice appeared and it claimed to be 2% "but feels like 5%". Turns out it was just 5% in most cases. Government cracked down on the stuff and companies started making "synthetic nicotine" which was pretty much a game changer since as per government law, synthetic nicotine was not a tobacco product, which means it was not subject to the 2% limit. The companies started selling "synthetic 2%" or "boosted 50" and for a while, they were literally the only vapes you saw. The companies seemingly shutdown one day and it seems like fake 5% is gone for good which in the end made a lot of people stop vaping. A thing that also helped a lot was the tax on vaping. Most common vapes went from 20-25$ total to about 30-35$ for only 1 to 2 weeks.

I teach middle school students at a K-8 school in the US and this has been such a big problem with the students. We confiscate about 1 device every week or every other week. We involve parents but half of them don't take action. It's insane! We even caught a few 4th graders (9yos) a few months back with a device!

that's legislation for you. They'd rather limit tank sizes but allow disposables that can be obtained and operated by minors a lot easier. I remember in 2016 and 2017 (before the ugly legislation in NA and the EU) there would be a LOT of adults running around with vapes but barely anyone under the age of 20 even. If you wanted to vape back in the day, you'd have to visit a shop to get a tutorial, because the devices were more sophisticated back then. And these shop owners would check age (although it wasn't required back then). Now you can just buy a knockoff-disposable from some shady shop and start right away. They took a good thing and turned it into the opposite - as always.

from my own experience and everyone i know who smokes vapes- they are way more addictive than cigs because u can smoke it any time anywhere pretty much and its so discreet and you dont feel bad about smelling gross. if u want to quit cigarettes, work through the addiction instead of replacing it with another one. i smoked for 10 years (4 of those almost exclusively a vape) and am now 1 year without anything. its hard but possible.

As a smoker myself I can relate to your disdain towards littering buds everywhere. I think most often it has to do with the lack of a nearby bin or other clean method of disposal. I'm guilty myself of this behavior sometimes, but I try not to do it.

Some positive aspects to vaping. Vapes use Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG). PG is used in Nebulizers, an expensive device that doctors prescribe to be used as a breathing treatment in those with respiratory ailments. This device can be used by people of all ages. VG can be used in the same device for those allergic to PG. If it's safe enough for a child or an elderly lady with emphysema it's safe enough for me. The only difference is that vapes use atmoizers. You know it wokrs if you vape because that is why when you first start vaping you cough up a bunch of crap from out of your lungs. It actually improves lung function. Vapes do not contain tar or carbon monoxide and you're not getting tobacco that has been treated with GOD only know how many toxic chemicals. The only problem I see with vapes is nicotine. Either way you slice it it is safer than traditional tobacco.

Vaping is the best and most successful smoking cessation and harm reduction product hands down.
All the reasons for that also make it the most palatable method of casual stimulant consumption for nonsmokers short of coffee and energy drinks.
The people who used to make money hand over fist from tobacco addiction wanted in on that market, from the old tobacco industry, to the medical industry, to black market bootleggers, to the government itself.

as someone who quitted smoking after near 15 years of heavy smoking, the truth was SO simple.
'I should never voluntarily inhale anything but oxygen '
whether vaping is better than cigarette or vice versa, it's so meaningless argument.
vaping, cigarette or whatever you do, it's just worse than not doing it. period.
it's your life, so choice is also on you, but quitting won't kill you. it simply liberates you.

Banning kid friendly vape flavors is always a weird thing to me; cause on the one hand we absolutely should discourage kids from vaping, however isn’t the problem more of how kids get these vapes and cotton candy pods in the first place? Should adults not be able to enjoy these flavors because kids get their hands on them?
    I’m not sure exactly.

    • @PvtAnonymous
      @PvtAnonymous Рік тому +3

how about we would heavily sanction the shops who sell to and individuals who buy vapes for kids? Make it a felony, I don't care. But we all know it's not to discourage kids from buying them, it's there to prevent more people from giving up tobacco. The "tHiNk aBoUt ThE cHiLdReN" is a huge red flag every time someone brings it up.

    • @PvtAnonymous
      @PvtAnonymous Рік тому +1

@@Artofcarissa what is and isn't a legal substance, is determined by legislation in the first place. I honestly would outright ban cigarettes, but then again: the state earns too much from tobacco tax and the pharma earns even more from selling chemo. If you're a smoker, you're guaranteed to have medical problems along the line. Less pension to pay too if you die younger than other senior citizens. It's a win-win-win for these big players and they'd rather have a smoking population than a vaping one for these reasons. Can't make money from healthy people.
