The empty fire station you mentioned is east of the new bunker. On the map, it's the large structure about halfway between Creek Prison and Trader Joe's. I end up there more times than not. Other than that, the new bunker is probably the better location.
I think you got roots in at the other bunker. so moving is logical if you can do it quickly but if it's gonna hurt progress I dunno. if you stay maybe work on the things you needs, like a well and whatnot. I missed an episode, so I dunno if you did that yet.

you can often look the military cars.. apc and the like.. not always though

You should have kept the alice pack and filled with the loot at the check point

Yes there's loads of settings to change all sorts of things 👍

There's the bunker or where I built last season in the watch tower overlooking trader Joe. both are good locations imo. 👍
I've spotted a double story house not far from trader Joe and took over it 😊
