Hey everyone! I have a fairly big Besiege competition planned out for hopefully the middle of February. If you guys want to stay updated on that, feel free to join my Discord server (link in description). Hope you enjoyed the video!
reminds me of the pseudo-greentext from the perspective of a peaseant farmer seeing a giant black mechanical cube of death in besiege, if you search enough you might find it
This man has gone through hundreds of years of weapons evolution in a matter of months, i predict that probably soon he may come to fear and regret his creations.
Not really the guy that comments a lot, but I just wanted to say how well made your videos are. From the soothing narration, step by step explanation, ingenious mechanisms and good but not overstylized in-game footage. Overall very clean and enjoyable content
6:11 Gyroscopic inertia. You get a heavy object spinning, it becomes hard to rotate that object on an axis different from the one it's already rotating in
In this video, you half discovered an important secret of Besiege physics that allows for very easy and compact rotation of machines. By using wheels with ballasts or any kind of mass attached (unattached braces work the best, because they can't break or break off), you can exert insane amounts of force on the machine. For example, put two (small or large) wheels on top of a car, and add braces or ballasts for mass for the wheels to spin. Bind the wheels to left and right, and you can turn on a dime.
The enhancements mod for this game is a must. It allows for custom angle limiting of steering hinges and many other things, like setting water cannons to boiling mode, without having to use a flaming ball.
Been about 4 years since I last saw content, and I think the thing I love most is how we are trying to fly, but we have already mastered perpetual motion so its not even a footnote.
Not a 100% sure if what I'm about to say is correct, But The spinning engine you created with the propellers on it. The reason why it was so stable was because of the rotation on the engine itself. If you ask me it looks like you made an engine and a gyroscope in one machine. The centrifugal force is keeping it steady. Very neat!
Lol the reason it lost altitude is bc the plane itself didn’t have any wings to generate lift, in a real vtol the space between the thrust pods are made of wings that generate lift when it’s going forwards so u only lose altitude in the transition from vtol to forward flight
Reid what keeps it stable Is Centripical Force It's spinning fast enough (like top spining thing) And because there's even enough weight on either Side.
I really really want to watch this video without subtitles, but your voice and the inflection you use to explain stuff just gets on my nerves in a way I can't explain. I have a feeling I am probably the only one who has this problem
I think that the reason the propellers were so stable on their own was because of the gyroscopic forces of all the rapidly spinning parts of the mechanism.

Hope you like the Ideas man, I spent about an hour or two typing this up! Feel free to look these up on Wikipedia if you need any information on them!
i suspect you made a gravity ring with the weight and spin of the engine v12 have small rotating clyinders in the block to counteract the force produced the torque makes it stay stable by counteracting forces
Reid captain sounds so much like nile red I wonder if he also adjusted his speaking pattern/tone just like how nigel did His cadency is also VERY similar
Was it totally impossible to expand the width of the engines at all? Using long braces instead of a ballast to connect the engine core to the spinning propellor, and even in that case expanding the size of the blades using braces attached to full propellors (like the cannon-powered engine from the intro) for greater propulsion? Probably would have been somewhat convoluted and would have required a redesign of the nose but still definitely interesting to consider when theorizing about a true VTOL that can function in plane form.

11:55 Bro the mechanism detaching itself from the shell is way too funny to me lmao

This is the golden age of Reid
You could make a great helicopter with these engines
also I wonder if you can use like a 4 bar linkage to link them together instead of gears
I think he could however if he did that then the propellers would have spun in the same direction which could cause issues
Not a 100% sure if what I'm about to say is correct, But The spinning engine you created with the propellers on it. The reason why it was so stable was because of the rotation on the engine itself.
