"CNN’s Manu Raju spoke to several House Republicans on Wednesday about the possibility of a government shutdown as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) tries to pass a temporary spending bill tied to a controversial election bill being pushed by Donald Trump.
“Congress has to pass a spending bill by the end of the month. What’s the play here?” anchor Brianna Keilar asked Raju.
“Yeah, this is going to fail this Johnson plan, even though not just because Democrats are opposed to that immigration provision. They say it’s unnecessary because it’s already illegal for undocumented citizens to vote in this country. Johnson said it is necessary nevertheless,” Raju began, explaining Johnson’s difficult road ahead.

The only problem there is most of them are already millionaires.
Anyone who wants a shutdown has absolutely NO idea of how far the damage from a shutdown will go.
My husband is a DoD employee. He gets paid well, we are fine. If there is a shutdown, he has to work without pay because he is an essential worker.
Know who will be most affected by a government shut down? People who can least afford it: military families who rely on WIC and SNAP, maintenance workers who work for contracting companies which serve the Federal Government, people who have plans to visit National Parks, hotels which service nNational Parks, tour guides, those types of people…people on the edge whose finances count of governmental funds to feed their families.
The Federal Budget sends money EVERYWHERE.
And, yes, all non essential government workers are sent home on furlough, and when the shutdown is over, they get paid for all of that time they just stayed home. A shutdown is a paid vacation for many, and a potential financial disaster for many more.
Oh please, Republicans, please shut down the government just before the election. I love watching the House Republicans doing their part to help elect VP Harris.

Shut down should start with politicians pay. They should still be required to work, for no pay and with the shut down that includes no travel privileges that aren’t out of their own pocket.
Hey Hannity, what if the network you work for had a corporate shut down because of the board’s budget dispute? Would you be okay with the uncertainty of not receiving a check until your network’s board agrees on a budget? Would your family be okay with your unpaid vacation? Waiting on your back pay?
The people pushing this are up here referring to Backpay as a paid vacation have no idea what it's like living paycheck to paycheck; because one would understand even if I don't get paid that out bills are still due.

Those people who end up getting back pay are people who are likely living paycheck to paycheck so they don't have the luxury of waiting months to get paid and they likely get a part time job if time stretches long enough. During a shutdown during Trump’s presidency, my dad was needing a knee replacement…..he needed it in a bad way. This was during the really really long shutdown. The agency that approves things such as the device used to replace the knee (to make sure that the mechanism was medically sound) was shut down. It was on the verge of getting approved but then the government shutdown. He was literally bedridden the entire time the government was shutdown. It was a miserable and physically painful and humiliating experience for him. Things that you never ever think about get messed up during a shutdown. 😢
