I worked there from 1990 when newly opened as the Oakwood nursing home for over ten years. Such a shame to see it like this , it was a beautiful grand building. I worked as a chef in the cellar which was definitely haunted the taps used to turn on , on there own 😳 Many fantastic memories with brilliant work colleagues many friend's for life . Thanks for sharing.
I lived in Oakwood in the 70’s. I was a student nurse working at Salford Royal and Hope Hospitals and later Pendlebury (Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital). Looking towards the bottom of the big staircase in the little alcove to the right was a public phone box we all used to queue up to use and to the left through the doors was the kitchen where we would order food earlier in the day for the evening meal. I think one of the small rooms you went into upstairs was my room. I was 18 or 19 yrs old and my parents settled me in. Leaving home was hard for both my parents and me but I for me it was also exciting. I had a lovely time there any had my 21st birthday celebrations in the cellar. There were many rooms down there and we decorated them all and had different music in each room and different coloured light bulbs. It was packed. Great memories. I have photos of my red mini car ( which I advertised for Marlborough cigarettes with fablon stickers of horses on each door) in the Oakwood grounds in front of the big front doors. It’s so sad to see it now. Your video is absolutely great and I was remembering the layout as you walked through. However they’d changed a lot of the house when it became a Nursing Home.

We were ballooning around all night and when it came to quite a few of the party goers crashing out on the floor of a big room, my mates and I were busy trying to perv with the nurse's. It culminated in my friends and I being chucked out early in the morning for excessive perving. Like I say, it's all a bit vague but I remember the nursing accommodation being either Irlams o the height (border of Swinton) or Swinton itself. And in my opinion, most of the nurses were bigger pervs than we were.
So sad to see the place in such a state. Prior to it being a nursing home. The Salford Group of Hospitals used to use it to house the Student Nurses that were training at the Original Salford Royal Hospital that was on Chapel Street. We used to pick up nurses that lived there as the hospital transp did it's rounds ferrying the nurses to and from work in the 1970s but it housed nursing staff for a long time before that. I have no idea when it's purpose changed.
You gotta admire the craftsmanship and the love those tradesmen put into these old buildings, they last a longer than the modern stuff they throw up now, great vid ar kid.

The tune that you added when you said the (first) room with the thick mouldy carpet was like it was from "The Exorcist" was ideal as it was very similar to Tubular Bells. what a very in-depth so informative interesting. Videojay. With some feather variety thrown in, Poor fur ones !! Really loved watching this. The building I’ve known of and walked past most my life and I always thought the turret tower looked interesting in a deep unknown type way. Hard to explain. I know a lot also called it “cuckoo lodge”. No idea why. Never have I seen historical spindles on. Stair bannister like that, amazing. Woodman, craftsmanship throughout that building. Was from that era, These days replicas aren’t the real thing either !!! Realise it takes a whole lot to do your work, and safety prime importance, thanks for all your explores. I have previously seen others, but your are the best in the field and yes. A David Attenborough of history filmography, and sound effects, and commentator, yeah. Top. Class. thankyou for showing viewers what an incredible place, a find with all its history and. Images and descriptive for us to see how it could of been. Where all the fire meeting points was in the building just in case of a fire 26:10 kitchen roll on the floor it looked like their old laundry room you can see the water hose at the back of the screen on the floor on the left of the screen 41:47 there is a dead bird and it looks like an old bible near the fireplace in the room I bet it once stood this place in it’s own grounds very grand back in the 18th century we have lots of grand places around Manchester cool place for history 42:12 the old pipe work and electric switches it could of just shut down because of care standards and didn’t meet with the requirements of running a home massive rooms but very expensive nursing home no doubt I think it’s about 3 grand wow now a days to live in one 42:28 this room is creepy sounds like a male whispered hay ! As you went in and said it was a bee ? If you look on the left of the screen there is like static as you turn your camera like a presence stood there xx
Hi mate, looking at the final shot, you were in a makeshift 5G tower! which is probably why the building is still standing. 5G is perfectly safe [ we are told ] but not safe for pigeons and birds who are attracted to them. Great work thanks again.

Hi mate, looking at the final shot, you were in a makeshift 5G tower! which is probably why the building is still standing. 5G is perfectly safe [ we are told ] but not safe for pigeons and birds who are attracted to them. Great work thanks again.
