Saxondale catches up with one of his old bandmates and tries to impress with his best Jeremy Clarkson impression. Hilarious BBC comedy tv series starring Steve Coogan.
This is a channel from BBC Studios who help fund new BBC programmes. Service information and feedback: www.bbcstudios...
Having worked in a real ale pub as a young lad, I've spoken to Tommy Saxondale many a time in his various human forms!
I used to work in HMV. If you didn’t serve at least one a day it was a slow day.
@@bookypeej9477 On the way back from Wetherspoon's usually... ;-)
@@WinChun78 No, Pubs not soulless beer factories !
@@Chris66able Now then. Let's get the terminology right. They are HDVDE's, ie, High Density Vertical Drinking Establishments.
So have I. It’s a brilliantly thought up character from Coogan. I’ve met many saxondales
Coogans best character - so underrated and believable. We all know a Tommy, bless him…
heavily under-rated series
It could be said Coogan took as much care, painstaking precision and research as DeNiro did on Jake LaMotta, or Daniel Day Lewis on Abraham Lincoln. For comedy I don't think I've seen a better depiction of a comedy character.
this is actually good, partridge is funny but moronic. Coogans best work imo
Excellent comment, friend :)
I couldn’t agree more, also great actor references to show methods of evoking a character
Michael has done well for himself in another universe!
0:46 I can't shake the image of Barry Gibb getting smashed up the chocolate starfish
I'd see someone about that if I were you.
It’s one of clarksons
couldn't disagree more. Saxondale is a lot subtler than Partridge. both are fantastic mind.
Superb... his comment on Branson's hairdo is the best backhanded compliment ever committed to film! And thanks to BBC for FINALLY putting some decent Saxondale clips on the internets. Newsflash - UA-cam clips don't discourage us from buying your DVD's... MOAR PLZ!
0:46 that morphing from a Bee Gee's falsetto into a sort of mujahideen/muezzin chant had me in stitches.
Nicely transcribed and timestamped. Gave me an extra laugh. Cheers. :D
" I used to know a guy who was all denim, long hair and mutton chop sideburns.... in a good way". Classic !
If you are in your fifties as I am most of you will have known many Tommy Saxondales.Captured perfectly by Coogan.
Yes. It's that perfect blend of eccentricity, knowledge & uncommon sense 🤔
That was brilliant lol When he loses it doing the bee gees impression, wet myself
I wish they would do another series
Give him a third series, you shits!
Most under rated comedy ever !
Amen to that
THIRD SEASON?!? THIRD SEASON?!? I WILL NEVER DO THIRD SEASON!! NEVER!! NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER NEVER! THIRD SEASON?!? NEVER!!! THIRD SEASON?!? I WILL NEVER DO THIRD SEASON!! NEVER!! NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER NEVER! THIRD SEASON?!? Third Season? Never!
'He takes it too far sometimes .......' Tom the prophet.
Michael has done okay for himself.
"It's nee lafin mata man"
No more beans and sausage straight from the can for him!
but he's turned into a boring ol'fart!
@@fruitcake4the’s turned into one of them w⚓️s they were against back in the day ..the straight tosser in a suit 😂😂
OMG that 71' Mach 1 is so freakin' nice!!
look like seann walsh
But funnier
He isn't a Geordie, he's actually very well spoken in real-life
the Geordie bloke is the guy that does the meercat's advert..who appears in Alan partridge
0:40 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The guy coogan is speaking to is the guy who plays Michael in 'I'm Alan Partdridge' - Sweet
Oh, get away with you. How's that even possible?
Saxondale is one of those blokes who you edge away from in the pub.
He sounds like a Northern Jeremy Clarkson
Brilliant! I did watch all the Saxondales when they came out, will try and see if they're on a decent online streaming svs, must re-watch!
i run an extreeemly successful business with exaclty the same haircut i had in 1974!
He's also the voice of Aleksandr the Meerkat off the insurance ads.
I can see now where Steve got the idea of Alan Partridge. Genius
I'm with Tommy on this one 😁👍
It screeeaams like a BeeGee! Wow this guy. He is classic
If you watch the celebrity boxing match between Ricky gervais an grant bovey michel is one of the trainers he was a quite successful boxer an boxing coach before getting his break on TV
There's a identical one up for sale at Maple Motors Muscle Cars.
it's the work geordie!
You daft racist.
you know he is the voice of the meercat as well!! seemples!!
He sometimes forgets to be Partridge - eg. @0:25 & 0:56
It is Michael! aka Simon Greenall, and he's also the voice of Aleksandr the Meerkat in those annoying advertisements
The drummer in my band is in his mid-60s and, every time someone mentions Led Zeppelin, he says "I was always more of a Deep Purple fan myself." If anyone knows of a compilation of every example of Saxondale being a militant Purple fan and dumping on Led Zep, please point me in that direction. I always champion Jeff Beck over Jimmy Page so I'm just as bad!!
For the most part (Gillan-era) Purple were better than Zep . Their albums certainly had a lot less filler .
I’ve worked with a few Tommy Saxondales Saxondales than I care to remember. 3 litre Capris were their car of choice
Steven Irvin There's a identical one up for sale at Maple Motors Muscle Cars.
Stephen Bray cheers Stephen but I’m not after one. Can’t think of anything worse!
Steven Irvin my brother had one back then. But you know what it's like when you fall in your car.
His scream reminds me of Piers Fletcher-Dervish from 'The New Statesman'!
Its weird seeing 'Goerdie Michael' in this character.
Richard Hammond would love the car they used the Mustang Mach 1
Yeah but he's got I Know What I Like by Genesis on his in car stereo system.. ;-0
Hammond would probably crash it and nearly die. Again
Saxondale. The greatest Steve Coogan creation.
It's Michael, mahn. Howay!
top job. thx Steve
I like Saxondale.
Poetry!
cool Saxondale vs. Corporate market (BBC)
I was in a Community pub at the weekend, some bloke was talking about Neil Young and CSN. I left.
*Shakes head and sighs* Having read some of the comments on here, seems some people need to have their comedy explained to them via diagrams.
both clarkson and alan partridge said "and on that bombshell"
So did the mujahideen....
In this case you'll it's case of life imitating arse.
The words of top gear magazine
the parole officer is criminally under-rated and I WANT THAT CAR!
noisyneil The Parole Officer is better than this.
Saxondale is always right
Brill!
Got friends like that,, you’ve moved on but they are still living in the past,,,,openly.😉
Me too, and I honestly don't have a problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is them not seeing that I'm not the person I was back then. Just as at the age of 19, I wasn't the same person I was at the age of 6.
NO NEED FOR THE ADVERT - WTF!
Funny stuff!
She has also wigg3led her touche for a couple of speed camera's in the Dunstable area! But that's a diffferent story! (sla\p's own hand!)
74 rocks
Every Punk from the late 70s 😂
Wish they would repeat this.
"the music industry in the 1970's was full of tits" spot on!!
It still is ....
There’s nee porn on it!
You've gone again!
is that guy micheal from the alana partridge days
@nobrakesukspeedway My Dad came to see what I was up to when I was watching this and he clicked straight away, sat and waited for me to get it though and it took me ages!
@nobrakesukspeedway its like a savoury 99
Many Geordies are! ;)
BBC, i couldn't give two shits about the release of the avatar dvd
which one said it first? I really need to know! I think it was Alan Partridge started it with Knowing Me Knowing You and Clarkson imitated it but I'm not sure...any one know for certain (state source please :P)
Steve Coogan Should Be On Comedy Central Saturday Night Live.
😂😂😂
I have met people like Tommy Saxondale.
it's Michael from Alan partridge
And Alan Partridge from Alan Partridge!
@@vonteflon Haha xP
that's cos it's tommy talking like Clarkson, which in the cycle of things, is pretty close to alan partridge. you shoudl watch saxondale, it's equally good
God was it 10 years ago!!! Oh Dear!
Stevenages’ finest
Ok that probably sounds a bit dated now...
Michael's come a long way from the petrol station!
HAHA
Sean Walsh put on some weight
ah 240p we meet again.
face it..its bloody funny!
All I was thinking is, nice Mustang.
Z-Assolluto-7-11 It's the kind of car I'd love to have but couldn't see myself owning.
@amnesiacradar I live in Derby, i know it sounds just like it.
Looks like the guy from strictly who kissed other mans wife.
@lillonghair Oh dear. It's comedy. That's the idea. (and Jeremy's from Yorkshire as it 'appens)
What Coogan?!!
STEVE COOGAN STILL LOOKS NOTICABLE WITH THE BEARD AND THE BLONDE HAIR.
oh wow the gangrape comment blew my mind, i love you steve coogan
does the baby want his bottle?
@tats8989 nah man you just don't get him!
God Michael sounds really posh lol..
That's all well and good... but who's Tom Donaldson?
hahhahhaha
@astroboirap Certainly some of the funniest shit I've ever seen.
Go ti borneo
saxondale was great
Michael's gone posh. Actually, Michael's dead...well, who knows? He may have survived!
R.I.P. Michael
As much as Tommy Saxondale is a bit of a dinosaur he is right to have a dig at his old mate. There is nothing wrong with cutting your hair, changing your look, and changing your lifestyle but to just be so dismissive about his youth and the fun times they had shows it isn't really growth.
We all act like like idiots when we are young, and quite a lot of us still do stupid things as we get older. Idolising those times like Tommy does might be a bit sad, but being so critical of them isn't really any better.
Uruguay.

Wishbone Ash
not supposed to sound like him, just something he would say, hence "sounds like clarkson.
lol do people seriously not understand what is happening in this clip?
@Trruckker
It's comedy.! The very idea is that it sounds nothing like him... Duh!
I love coogan. My favourite talent. But this didn't work for me I thought it was poor
