    Please note that in the UK many true cold water aquarium fish from other countries are banned due to the possibility of them becoming invasive (being able to survive our winter temps). Because of this, other than goldfish and some controlled species, fish available in the UK labeled as cold water are most likely going to be subtropical fish which can tolerate lower temperatures (between 16-20°) rather than true cold water ones which prefer cold temperatures.

    I have had the same 30 gallon tank for 15 years. Mostly I have Tetras and Corys. In the last two months the tank has developed a white fungus. I thought it was Algae but have been told it is a fungus. It looks like almost pieces of small cotton floating in tank that seemed to like anything rubber or plastic. I've cleaned the tank from the bottom, made several huge water changes and it still keeps coming back. I've taken everything plastic out. Any suggestions? To me the stuff really terribly looking.

    • @EverydayAquarist
      @EverydayAquarist  6 років тому

      The only time i have ever seen fungus in an Aquarium it is either growing on rotting food or on newly submerged bits of wood. It might be white hair algae which would be prevented just like any other algae. Alternatively it may be a fungus actually eating your plastic plants. You could try removing all plastic and replacing with new higher quality plastics or silk plants, or even live plants. I would probably change your light if its a tube and hasnt been changed in the last year or upgrade to LED. Either way I'd also recommend adding a good quality bacterial booster like Microbelift special blend or similar.

    • @feedthedoggies
      @feedthedoggies 6 років тому +1

      Thank you for responding. I have taken all plastic out of the water. I have a high grade plastic log that the Corey fish like to hang out in that I've let soak in hydrogen peroxide. I've been real careful about the amount of food I've been feeding. I had a family crises in August which left me very rattled. I could have been over feeding them then. It is getting a little better. It is more like a fuzzy white substance then cotton and seems to travel around the tank at will. I do notice it is staying on the bottom of the tank more than on the plastic that holds the heater or the plastic around the air bubble stone. I have been adding stress zyme which has a bacterial booster. Noticed that my screen on the filter get thickened with some type of substance after a few short days causing the bio wheel to stop. Someone suggested a Chinese planco? No sure of the spelling. They said they love eating it which made me think of a algae as someone else said there was a white algae. And someone else had sent in a video of the white stuff in their tank which looked like the white stuff in my tank. Thank you again for your help! My fish are also all old. They are like my dogs and tend to live a long time. I'm 66 and hope to live as long as my fish and dogs do.
