I have had both the ferrite and then "upgraded" to the alnico. I really couldn't tell any difference when in my cabinets. I also had a pair of the the original Diatones and I would say that the ferrite copy has a noticeably better sound IMO. I have had mine for 6 years now and run from a Nobsound JLH 10W clone, possibly one of my favourite home hifi set ups. It's such a musical driver and if you want a DIY project, the bang for buck with these is amazing. I see that the price has gone up a fair bit over time, but still very much worth it.
I am almost ready with a 4 way open baffle design and want to order these drivers for midrange duty. Is there any update on the alnico/ferrite sound difference? Are the alnoco's worth the extra investment?
My dad says he can't imagine the Alnicos sounding worse. He also says the ferrites may no longer be available, and for your application either would be good.
Hi! I am thinking about which one of the 610 clones to purchase. Can you ask your dad which one would he suggest alnico or ferrite if I plan to make a quarterwave transmission line with a ribbon supertweeter on top?
Hello! My dad has only heard the ferrite, so he can't compare them. He assumes the Alnico will sound excellent too, only time will tell. We will no doubt about do a comparison video. Thanks for your comment!
@@mydadsaysaudio6192 Thank you and your dad for the reply and kind words! I really appreciate it! At the same time my plans now have completely changed! If you're curious now I am building a transmission-line/open baffle hybrid with a full range vintage Tesla ARO 6808 (in baffle), tweeter on top and woofer (in transmission line) up to 200Hz approx. The most interesting part of the build from my POV is my decision to use series crossover.
@@wrongIQ Just got off the phone with my dad, he says your plan sounds great! As you may know, he uses an open baffle with ribbon tweeter. Keep us posted on your build!

Thanks for sharing your experience . My dad joked that might be the case.
I would love to get an update on the alnico vs ferrite comparison.
The updated video is on its way! My dad has a few projects before then but he plans to build two boxes and compare the drive units.
Great channel 😊👍🏻.
Thanks a lot! We are having fun with it.

Another question, what is the power rating on these drivers?
My dad says he believes they are rated at 30 watts.

@@mydadsaysaudio6192 thanks! It may take some time. Too much to do at my main job this autumn.
1년을 기다렸는데 아직도 비교 사용기를 안 올렸네. 간만 보고 안 올리면 우짜노. 형 화날려고 한다.
My dad is going about building two cabinets. There will be a comparative review in the future.
