Another outstanding video, Shane. I just love how your channel has evolved over the years to reflect your personal watch preferences, not hype watches. My tastes align very much with yours and I truly look forward to the quirky collection! Thank you for the time and effort you put into producing these videos.

Shane I always enjoy your videos and think you do a great job. You have probably thought of this before or perhaps already do it, but your voice and presentation is one of the most professional in this area. Have you thought about doing voice-overs, radio work, voice acting, journalism etc?

I'd also enjoy seeing category overviews. Like, some of my favorite types are compressors, fliegers, and anything good for travel and outdoors like dual-times and field watches. Also, you've got a pretty good eye for obscure, unique, and/or quirky watches. You could do a whole series like this and use your collection to explain the different types. Fun and educational! :)

The screws aren’t “faux” on the Oris Aquis crown gaurd. They are removable and you can change the crown gaurd piece out if they are damaged. But I see your point that it would be a cleaner look without the screws.

Great presentation, Shane. I love collections that are unpredictable - so many are ‘here’s my Rolex Sub, my OP, my Cartier Tank, my Seamaster, my Speedmaster…’
This is a great balanced and interesting collection - love the Zodiac and the Jack Mason!

Great video. My only red dial at the moment is a Citizen Tsyosa rose gold/red dial. I upgraded the clasp by replacing the stamped scissor with a milled one while keeping the original clasp. I'm planning on adding the Citizen Attesa Moonphase with a red face as well.

Great video, collection of watches. Your last diver, the monster is a sweet one. I bought that one as a jdm. Had it on a light blue canvas strap. Looked perfect, but felt head heavy on my wrist. Recently put it on a strapco vintage bor bracelet. Wow! Perfect for me. Very stunning look.
Love your collection, how you enjoy watches. Thanks

Interesting selection of watches. "Perfectly imperfect" is an a accurate description of the Olympos. I also had the blue version and liked it but returned it because legibility was an issue. Great video. SOTC videos of more than 25 watches are simply displays with rushed comments. I did a similar thing last year. I did my SOTC broken into categories: outdoor, work, dress, etc. It was more engaging for me and manageable size of watches for the viewer. That reminds me…I need to get going this! Do you ever drink from that mug you set down while recording?😉

    • @RelativeTime

Do you consider all the watches that you receive for the channel as part of your collection or do you keep those separate from your personal collection?
I would be more interested to know what watches you've removed from your personal collection over the past year and why. Or maybe you have gotten rid of any and you can update us after you downsize in 2024.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  11 місяців тому

Good question... yes and no. When I started I considered everything as part of my collection. I still sort of do, but as the channel and number of watches have grown I've been dividing them into different categories.
So there would be my core collection, which this video is probably about half of. These are the watches I wear the most and the "keepers" Almost all of them live in a 24-slot watch box in my closet. Where the rest are in the spare bedroom that's become my filming studio.
Then there is a sort of in-between category, which is most of the watches. The ones I like, but not sure are keepers yet. I can only wear so many watches and is ridiculous to keep over 100. Also as a general rule, I don't sell watches that are given to the channel right away. I always give them at least a few months before I decide what to do with them. Give them a chance to see if I choose to wear those over other watches.
Then there are a couple of watches that I'm only keeping around for the channel. Ones I've lost interest in, but want to keep around as a reference.
And lastly, there are the ones I've already decided to sell, that I just haven't gotten around to yet. Late last year I bought a couple of 10-slot nylon travel cases. I put a label on them that says "The Chopping Block" These watches go in there.
Also, it doesn't really matter if I receive a watch to do a review or I buy one to do a review, they both get treated the same. The only thing that gets special treatment is if I buy it more for me, and will do a review on it anyway. So for example The Glacier MMR is one I bought more for me and automatically was part of the core collection. Whereas the Orient Star Standard is one I bought more to review and wound up keeping instead of selling after reviewing it. Then there is the Orient Star 1964 diver, which I bought solely to review, and didn't warm up to it. So recently sold that.
Now as for Core watches I sold last year, I don't think I did. Although this year I'll probably be selling a few. Usually, those are watches that I've lost interest in or have been replaced by something similar. For me, if I haven't worn something in 6 months, it's time to consider selling it.
So for example my White Alpinist. I recently got the green GMT, and it's replaced it. So I'll be selling that this year. Another example would be the Cocktail Time Mojito. I really like it, but haven't worn it in a while. I usually grab something else as a dress watch. Plus that Green Alpinist has a similar color scheme. So I probably should sell that one.

I hear you. But still, 10 year life, more expensive. I have the seiko SNE573, the Citizen BN0169-03X (orange) and BN0151-09L (blue) No battery change, quartz precision, beautiful and cheap to buy brand new. The Volkswagen or the AK47 of watches . This is the future no matter on how old the technology is:)@@RelativeTime

@@A_Dude_And_His_Watch78 Then I would buy a collection of G Shocks and Seiko Astron, Nomos Club Campus, Junghans Max Bill, Sinn 556, Longines Legend Diver, Longines Heritage Classic. Alternatively, if I was on a budget, I would save up for a Rolex Explorer for a one-watch collection. But I certainly wouldn’t buy any of the watches mentioned in the video regardless of price, since taste is relative, and there’s no right or wrong.

@@sadaka201 Ahh... Whoever said it did?
Actually don't answer that... let me just say this. If anyone is ever focusing on either pure quantity or quality... they aren't going to get what I'm doing. With this video, the channel, and dare I say watch collecting in general. Or at least what I think it is. Watch collecting should never be a dick-measuring contest of any kind. There is no prize at the end for who has the biggest, or most expensive collection.
Yet there is a prize every time you look down and smile at a watch you have a personal connection with... and that right there is key to what I think collecting is about. Your personal connection to each piece, regardless of what it is. You should never buy a watch simply because "it's the best", or someone says it is. Or ever to impress someone else. You should only buy a watch if there is something you like about it and something that connects with you. Otherwise, you're not on your own watch-collecting journey, but following someone else's.
Ultimately that's what I think my collection is about, and what I'd like my channel to be about.
      Cheers!
