I have come late to Schubert but have quickly fallen in love with his lyricism and good humour. I find these sonatas very pleasant when i am working but every now and then I have to stop and let the music feed my soul.
There’s so much to love about this sonata: its overall form, the extraordinary lyricisms that seem to come from out of nowhere and with such ease... But I absolutely adore the third movement. The menuetto allegretto is so beautiful.
O Lord...I've been listening to everyone so far on this list...and I'm so taken with the music; it's a wonder how Schubert was able to cope with this world; with the tremendous gift that he had...
James Alden very interesting point you raise. Perhaps he in the end wasn’t willing or able to cope with this world. Or perhaps it was because of his music that he was able to cope with this world. If the world has so much hatred and ugliness, then if you can create your own beauty.
@@fe12rrps I think that Schubert created a vision of a beautiful, humane world, with his music. The real one would be so much better, even good, if all listened to Franz' music and understood his thoughts and feelings...

Sheer beauty. Pure feelings. A masterwork.
The last movement is just sublime...

Splendid rendition of an elusive masterpiece

William Kempff and Alfred Brendel are among the greatest Schubert pianists.
Arthur Schnabel, Richard Goode but not A.Brendel
@@esfirross6800 Why not Brendel?
I like Uchida and Richter for Schubert. Both mentioned pianists are good as well in my opinion, but not as amazing
