I'm here from Salford after being approached by WMSCOG members for a "5 minute presentation" which turned into a 2 hr discussion. As a Christian myself I was very suspicious of some of the things they were saying about "Heavenly Mother" using Bible verses way out of context. So here I am now, looking at cult videos on them hahaha

Same for me. I had a 45 minutes conversation and I was amazed on how this young lady was trying to justify her views taking scripture out of context
They spoonfeed you with love until you forget how to spoonfeed yourself. And when you forget to spoonfeed yourself and are so reliant on the spoonfeeder, thats when the spoonfeeder begins to manipulate and exploit you. Not so sure if people will understand this analogy.

Certainly better than preaching repetitive and robotic verses out of context while people look at you like “uh, what are you on…?” Or better than reading 24 page books written by “God” equivalent to a 3rd grade reading level… certainly better than falling asleep after eating high carb/fat food and nodding off while someone spews “heavenly family/earthly family” for the 40th time for a signature… great video- thank you, Harry. I find it disheartening to have invested 24 minutes of my time in viewing this documentary, purportedly distinguished by awards, which, upon closer examination, seem to be bestowed either by blind judges or within the confines of a film festival where it stands as the sole submission. The self-proclaimed accolade of "best international director" prompts me to inquire how many other international directors participated in this festival; alas, such information remains elusive.
This cinematic endeavor has eroded my faith in productions that lay claim to obscure film festival honors. My critique, however, is not tethered to any personal affiliation with the group in question, as I strive for an objective evaluation. Regrettably, positive reviews appear confined to acquaintances of the filmmaker, Harry, or former members of the discussed group.
Purporting to delve into the WMSCOG, the documentary ostensibly aspires to offer a profound exploration. Yet, it swiftly reveals itself as a one-sided narrative, characterized by a conspicuous bias. The filmmaker employs selective editing and cherry-picking of evidence, casting doubt on the documentary's commitment to journalistic integrity and the pursuit of an objective truth.
The documentary presents an unbalanced portrayal by neglecting to incorporate counterarguments or alternative perspectives. Notably, the documented legal case is rendered one-dimensional, offering only a singular perspective. While engagement with the Church was elusive, the filmmaker could have gleaned insights from legal documents to present a more nuanced perspective.
A hallmark of responsible documentary filmmaking is the inclusion of diverse viewpoints and dissenting opinions. Unfortunately, this film falls short in this regard, undermining its credibility and perpetuating a skewed perspective. Thank you so much for making this! It’s sad how I am able to relate to this. I’m now 30 but many years ago when I was a college freshman, I had this scholarship paid by the catholic church. I quit that college scholarship because it felt wrong, it felt like I was making a pact with the devil. A family member who was supposed to be at a retiring age at that time persevered to pay my college tuition because of what I did. I still feel shitty about it it to this day and I’m just happy I got out before graduating college. It’s true how WMSCOG’s actions impact people’s trajectories. Got friends of mine who recently joined and it’s been a struggle to say the least. I’ve learned that the best way to handle it is to be there for your friends/loved ones unconditionally, given the trials and tribulations this church will inevitably put them through. Doesn’t mean you have to agree with this false doctrine of WMSCOG, but remind them of the good times you had with them before this church and m let them come to you to vent if they are struggling with the church’s methods of manipulation. Cults like this can be defeated, and it’ll be by their own doing. I can’t promise this process will be quick, but your dedication to helping your friends/loved ones is a noble one. God will not be kind to those who abuse His word or His people.

I had racist treatment from "sisters" who never owned up to their behavior and waited until my unit leader was either distracted or absent to put me in my place. It's so sad that the Deaconess had to apologize on their behalf instead of them admitting that they knew what they were doing was wrong. I understand that some people don't grow up, but those "sisters" were watching and waiting for an opportunity to single me out. This goes beyond ignorance now. In Manchester 2013, I knew someone who had joined this church and saw how horribly it gripped her life and brainwashed her. One week the world was supposed to end and the next she denied ever believing it. Its crazy hearing this doc repeat quotes she used to say.

The problem with the church and the abortions is that murder is a sin. I remember watching a video while i was still a member of what hell looked like in pictures.

Thank you for your time making this documentary. You have found a lot of witnesses which paint a vivid diverse picture, however as someone unknown to the church I would have appreciated more emphasis on the teachings. You could have easily made this documentary an hour long and it would have stayed as interesting and even thorough!!! Especially the parts which are just of 10 seconds accusations and than switching to another person who does the same thing conflicts with the tone of a serious objective documentary and makes it more of a hitpiece, but hey that's my opinion haha. Well done, this is an absolutely brilliant documentary. The WMSCOG is a cult deserving of all the scrutiny and investigation in the world. Many news outlets paint this cult as an award-winning charitable organisation, but documentaries like this shed light on the true WMSCOG. Wmscog does such a tidy job of preventing any exposure on their deceitful practices and incidents within the church. It may seem like a headscratcher to the public, but their process of indoctrination is so subtle and well fabricated using the bible to put their members into an inescapable ultimatum. So many homes have been broken because of this church’s teachings and their outlook on outsiders. I really hope the member eyes will open thru watching these similar experiences of so many members. They can’t keep getting away with gaslighting and manipulating members.
I was in this cult since I was born till I turned 21. I am so proud of myself for leaving after so much mental struggle. The church has caused my own father to be estranged for most of my life. He is currently a missionary.

This church, did not care about my father's mental health issues. He was suffering from schizophrenia, and the thing i regret most is dragging him into that cult. A member even claimed she didn't know what "schizophrenia" is. I'm sure that anyone part of normal society would know what "Schizophrenia" is before entering the church.
Same thing with my brother. He has Autism, and although i didn't quite get him into the church and he was not baptized, I only took him to one sabbath service and realized my mistake. H couldn't read at the time, having austism meant that it would be difficult to teach him their doctrines to him and the Korean deacon at some point got "Upset" because he couldn't "preach" to my brother nor could my brother possibly read or "Fully" understand what they were trying to teach him. It wasn't his fault, no matter how much I tried to tell the members about my brother's intellectual disabilities, they didn't care. They just wanted to spread their "gospel" and bring more vunerable people into the cult and even possibly make more money out of them.
To say they brainwash their members, is very true but none of my family are members anymore and neither myself, but I am glad i am not because there's so much to unpack.
Aslo, another thing about mental health in the cult, is they did not care about the fact i was already suffering anxiety and depression at the time, one of the other female members told me the reason why i suffered from depression is because of the sins i committed in heaven before coming to earth, and that's just not the truth at all.

a) is there reason you didn’t go on the offensive there?
B) would you do it differently now?
- genuinely curious about your process; was the interview in the church scouted following the grooming comparison or was it just a coincidence/interviewee’s location choice?

- The genuine hope originally was to have more access to the church and build more of a dialogue. I was also bound by a lot of ethics restrictions from my uni as this film doubled up partially as my dissertation, which is why I may come across as more reserved when confronting them. I'd certainly do things differently if I had the backing of a studio or something so I'd have had more freedom and power on my side, but also hindsight's 20/20 and I'm personally very proud of what I was able to independently put together with little resources 🙌
- as for the church interview with Richard, the location was partly stylistic and partly convenience due to a late change in location ahaha

Thanks for the responses; yeah I can imagine the uni ethics dissertation entanglement being a nightmare.
I think you did a great job working around that in hindsight. Presenting the obvious questions to the viewer is very tactful & I hope it came up well in the marking from uni.
It’s interesting to consider how they were seemingly non confrontational in their responses or body language but it was clear they wouldn’t entertain any dialogue with you; even though they had acknowledged your letter (in a somewhat dismissive way).
