Glen your videos are great! I am envious of your many bike trails. I also intially had some nervous thoughts on riding on the roads, but I am finding your advice very good. When the bike lanes run out I usually stay to the edge except when getting close to intersections. Then I act like I am a car and get to the left of the lane. So far no one has tried to run me over yet! Still working on leg strength so only did 18 miles today, but managed to climb two bridges over the Intercostal Waterway, (Our hills here in South Florida) and had to spin real hard as the first one was getting ready to open! Legs were a bit tired at the end, but hopefully will go again tomorrow and maybe go 22-24 miles. Thanks for the inspiration!
That's great to hear James! Yep. the misconceptions about riding on streets are big, but the main thing is being where you are most seen by tunnel vision drivers... in the lane in front of them. and also not making them think you are letting them pass in a narrow lane by riding too far right. Most states in the US have vehicle code that allows exceptions to Far to Right requirements for safety. Everyone should check their local state laws, but in general they state that cyclists must "ride as far to the right as practicable" ... which means as far right as the cyclists deems to be safe. so... letting a motorist think they have room to pass you is not safe. Anyway... off my soap box. Glad to hear you are enjoying the ride and riding safe! Enjoy!
I REALLY-R E A L L Y !!!! envy you :))) nice weather and great trails. Keep putting clips like this to keep us motivated till march(too cold to ride now). Then I`ll put some of mine:)
Nice vid there Glenn. We just spent 2 weeks over Christmas in La Mirada but both myself and the wife got sick, so the only ride we got in was the Whittier greenway trail. This is the second year we have drove down from Seattle to ride, only to get sick :( Hopefully Xmas 2015 will be our chance to ride some of your wonderful SoCal trails.
Yes, it was a nice trail, though it was way too short for me, and there was some construction going on that had us detour on the street for a little while. Hope to do the SART and SGRT next time I'm down there.
Drew Ski yeah, the one bummer about the Whittier trail is all the street crossings you have to do, and it is too short. SART currently has one detour because of some construction over it at the 91 freeway, but by next December it should be back open again.
dregerclock Yeah, street crossings are a pain in the butt. Hopefully the construction over the SART will be complete by Christmas. I really don't like riding less than 20 or 30 miles at a time. After all, it is usually a bit of a hassle to get the trikes packed up and off to the trail, so you want to get a decent ride in when you do.
normand gallant we just both got the flue that was going around and a bad cough. Don't know anything about riding down the 101. Check out crazyguyonabike.com for people who have done it though.
Just saw something that holds a lot of potential for your film work. It's called the Air Dog and is a drone that can carry a camera and you just strap on the arm/wrist band controller and it will follow you around automatically! It is battery powered so flight time will be limited, but on many of your trail rides a few aerial shots would be really cool. Google Air Dog and check it out!
Yeah! I just saw that too on the Trike Asylum blog! Very cool. it would be great to film a bunch of trikes riding along... at $1200 though... I might need to start taking donations to afford it!
well, I usually hand hold it and try to hold it out away from me so that my arm can bob with the bumps for one... kinda got to float it a little -- making your arm the shock absorber. Also it does not hurt that in some of the scenes I have sped up the video and used the stability filters in iMovie. but they tend to add some blur to the images so I used it sparingly. Mostly... practice.
dregerclock Thanks for info. From your videos I have watched you seem to have mastered the GoPro very well, only had mine a few months, always had video cameras with stabalizers. Great cycleways you have, cycleways in New Zealand are not up to much and are more like dirt tracks, I will pinch my wifes recumbent trike and have another go, I need to practice keeping it horizontal when your not using a view finder.. Still catching up there I see Glen! Nice ride and some new sights! Cool...!
Always fun to try something new. ;-)
Cool - glad to see the squadron riding something new, always nice to see that part of the LA area, I've not been too in ages!

oh bummer you got sick while down here. Whittier Greenway is a fun trail. I love the old train bridges that they converted for the trail's use

Same place I saw it! ☺
Very nice video, please tell me how you get such smooth video from a GOPro camera, mine look rubbish in comparison,
