Legendary Dragonite has the most potent ability, but because it's a Dragonite, it's hard to make use of. Legendary Moltres has the best ability, but its a terrible card. Legendary Articuno has the weakest ability, but is overall the most useful legendary. Legendary Zapdos is just hilarious.
I know I've been pretty hard on Jared in the comments of this video series, but I *really* hope _after_ Jared finishes the *sequel* to the Pokémon Trading Card Game for the Game Boy Color, he considers giving the Pokémon Trading Game Online a chance to keep this series going. The "Trainer Challenge" is like a dumbed down version of the GBC games, and the Theme Format means Jared wouldn't have to invest too much time before he had a series that could go on as long as he wants. :D
The Prism Star cards are always holographic like that. Edit: 10:48, does anybody else think of Raichu? Like replace Chansey with Raichu and replace Jack with Jared.
Can we say that, fit all of Scyther's reputation, it's Pinsir who has really stood out most of these matches? Also, Jack scooping up Articuno only to Prof Oak it away is one of the dumbest things I've seen the AI do XD
I think Jared and ms. Editor are like Atem and Yugi: one is all nice and just want to enjoy games, other is all about serious business and just crushing his opponents. And they both inhabit same gameplay channel.
Someone needs to introduce both Jared and Miss Editor to the Pokemon Adventures manga. It's much darker and would probably satisfy Jared's...over excitement and certainly answer Miss Editor's last question to whether pokemon is serious business.
The *good* news is Jared already said he'd move onto the Japanese-exclusive sequel. *After that* I'm hoping we can persuade him to take up the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. Even if Jared doesn't want to commit a lot of time to it, and wants to invest no money, the PTCGO still works. It has a single player mode, the Trainer Challenge, where you face a series of CPU controlled opponents, created just for the PTCGO. They've got a tiny bit of dialog and their own character art, plus deck builds and AI that aren't much better than the old GBC games'. The Trainer Challenge only lets you use Theme Decks, provides you a few mediocre ones with which to begin, and others can be unlocked through in-game currency (including the current best Theme Deck). *After **_that_* the PTCGO offers a Theme Format where Jared can face real-people running the different Theme Decks, and earn in-game rewards. He can even participate in eight-person tournaments!
well, to be fair, i think the original is the better game, 2 felt too "railroaded" for me, it also doesnt help that many fights give only a single booster, and some of the boosters are rare until the second part of the game, also, F that game center, great idea, TERRIBLE execution...
The Pokémon Adventures manga also has Ghetsis crucifying the Unova gym leaders, Zinnia getting impaled by Rayquaza, and Archie and Maxie fighting each other to the death for a magical suit of armor. ✨
En garde Bug Catcher Jared, for today's challenger is Articuno Master Jack! This battle is sure to chill us to the bone, but can our favorite demi-god Caterpie and his followers best this brutal winter? Who else dares stand before the might of Bugs? Let's find out in the next episode!
I'm actually kind of sad this series is almost over, Jared's enthusiasm for this game has given me the mid-day perk up to get through a couple weeks of real bull-scheduling at work.
When I first played this game when I was like 10, those Grand Masters were super tough. Though 10 year old me was an idiot when it came to deck construction. Even on a recent playthrough, Jack gave me a lot of trouble so it was admittedly disappointing seeing you just breeze through them all so far lol
I don't want this series to end ;~; I've been so excited each upload to chill out watching these videos. (RE2 has been a blast too, but kinda hard to chill out with that game).
Jared at thebstart of the video, "you can send me free stuff, *lists stuff* you can send me cool free stuff" Me a viewer who loves Jared's content, "you make some compelling points there, let's do this" 😂
When you opened the pack, it reminded me of the kind of reactions I usually have; I wasn't much of a collector, and was more excited for cards and Pokemon that I liked and could use in duels. Today, when I'm playing the TCG Online,Zho itould be like me finding a Probopass in a pack. I love Probopass!
I seriously love Ms. Editor- I was objecting about the prof oak play when it came to Articunio, and as I was talking to my screen, SHE CHIMED IN. Bless u Ms Editor
Articuno's effect is the second-most useful of the Legendary cards because it's relatively reliable, and gets just as much use from Scoop Up as Moltres does. Trying that with Zapdos will inevitably blow up in your face thanks to the law of averages. All three of them have attacks that are way too expensive for what they do (40 damage for 3 energy is OK, hitting the bench is great, not being able to target it _sucks)_ - I'm pretty sure they were designed with the idea that the human player could easily integrate them into whatever deck they happened to be running, since the main strength of all four of them is in their abilities.
But paralysis only lasts one turn, assumes the opponent doesn't have a full heal on hand, or has one of the many "Immune to statuses next turn" skills that are in the game, or just a switch card (Which you ought to be running) and means you have to run multiple scoop ups just to get a SINGLE TURN of nothing from the opponent, provided none of the above are in their hand. It's ... not worth it.
@@Nekufan1000000 Four things: 1) If your opponent is immune to statuses, you don't drop the card (unless for some reason you have to). 2) If you're forcing your opponent to drop a Switch, in many cases that's as good as paralyzing them. The optimal time to use the card is as an attempt to force a certain response. Sometimes this will buy you a turn - it's the closest the game gets to a card like MTG's Moment's Peace, which at the very least allows it to fill a niche. 3) The idea isn't that you run Scoop Up _just because_ of the Legendary Bird cards. The idea is that it's an additional synergy if you're running Scoop Up (or Mr. Fuji) already. 4) In terms of efficiency, no, the cards aren't worth it - The only one that might be is Moltress, which only really works in Charizard decks, which are themselves not worth running when compared to Haymaker. The thing is, Spikes aren't the type of people that pick up the GBC version of the card game - this is something for casual players who want to mess around with some of the cards without the hassle involved in setting up an actual, physical game (including finding the people to play with).
So, based on my casual experiences from grinding some on the Reward Ladder of the PTCGO, in the Standard Format, as well as results from tournaments over the last few months, here is how the cards Jared pulled from that SM - Lost Thunder have fared: *Code Card:* Good for one SM - Lost Thunder booster pack in the PTCGO. Pack contents are *not* guaranteed to be the same as the physical packs. If you sell the code card, it probably is worth somewhere between $0.05 and $0.25 USD. *Lightning Energy:* Valuable to new players, but almost everyone else should have enough they can actually give some away to new players. ;) *Larvitar:* There are two Larvitar in this set. _This_ one is good for hiding on your Bench and eventually evolving into Tyranitar or Tyranitar-GX... but neither has a competitive deck right now. The _other_ Larvitar (114/214) has actually seen a tiny, _tiny_ bit of success as an attacker in its own right! *Carbink:* The first attack isn't terrible, but overall, this isn't a good card. It is possible some lock deck will come along and make that first attack worthwhile, however. *Chikorita:* Decent, but only because the Meganium from this set has actually made it into a handful of decent decks. *Scyther:* So far, no recent success for Scizor or Scizor-GX decks. Scyther (CES) might be better for those because it can attack to search out another Scyther or to stall. Still, this Scyther isn't entirely hopeless. And it looks kewl. ;) *Marill:* It has more HP than other Marill cards, but that could backfire because of a search card called Professor Elm's Lecture. At least, if there was a competitive Azumarill deck; there isn't, and the attack doesn't even have niche potential. *Thunder Mountain {*}:* Yes, "{*}" is the official shorthand for "Prism Star", taken from the FAQ they sent out for Pre-Releases... but most folks I know don't use it. XP Anyway, Thunder Mountain {*} is a must-run for decks built around {*}. We didn't see much of it, though, because the available [L] attackers were kind of disappointing, but some that did well in Japan just became tournament legal on Friday, February 15, and have been giving me grief on the PTCGO. A great pull, Jared. :) *Quilava:* Best currently available Quilava, but that ain't saying much. There is a budget/gimmick deck built around Typhlosion from XY - BREAKthrough that was somewhat popular on the PTCGO a few years ago and would have liked a copy or two of this to run alongside Rare Candy. I think there is a Typhlosion-GX coming out that might make it useful, but even then just as a stepping stone for when Rare Candy isn't handy. Sorry. *Pupitar:* Actually one of the best Pupitar ever released *but* without a worthwhile Tyranitar or Tyrantitar-GX into which it could Evolve, it isn't going to mean much. Even with those, people often prefer Rare Candy to speed to the final Stage. If there was a way to safely spam its Ability turn after turn, it might make for a decent staller. *Counter Gain:* Good-but-not-great Pokémon Tool. A few decks use it really well, but it is usually better to more reliable ways to speed up attacking and use the one Tool a Pokémon is allowed to bolster defense, offense, reduce retreating, etc. A few decks really do amazing things with it, though. Just not enough to have kept me from looking foolish for hyping Counter Gain prior to its release. XP *Alolan Persian:* Not great, but _Far_ better than I realized until recently! Someone came at me with a deck built around single Prize [D] Types and running many Energy-discarding Trainer cards. Might have potential as a rogue deck... unless it becomes too well known. XD There are a few cards that aren't out in English yet that might help Alolan Persian more in the future. A pretty good pack, overall. :)
@@itsfort2098 Pretty close, but more complicated than that. Cross-reference rarity, with whether it is Pokémon, Trainer, or Energy, and then what subclasses of Pokémon, Trainer, or Energy. In the end, expect 70-90% of the pack to be filler, and the worthwhile card(s) to be Uncommon or better.
-Probably my favourite Energy Card designs would be from the HG/SS set. Had a silhouette of a Pokemon related to the type, and a location, like the Steel Energy had Steelix and Goldenrod Radio Tower iirc. Fire had Ho-Oh and Tin Tower etc. Awesome cards :D
I've been playing this again on the 3DS after watching this series, and I had a fucking epic duel against Jack that ended up being the hardest Grand Master fight on the way to beating the game. Jack had two Articunos out against my Grass/Electric (Bioshock) deck, and right after going down one prize to two I drew a base set Magneton and cleaned house. It's been so fun watching you play this game dude. I'm looking forward to the sequel
Seeing you get a Pangoro from the booster pack in the last episode was awesome because it's my favorite Pokemon. But seeing you get Scyther in this episode's booster pack was even more amazing.
The first 3 decks were based around Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno, so I wonder what Rod's deck will be themed around. Mewtwo maybe? I honestly don't know! Excited for the next part!
All Prism Star cards are foils, and they all have effects that would be game-breaking if you could have more than one of them. Thunder Mountain is one of the cards that necessitates running multiple copies of a Stadium card, because letting that thing stay on the field is a great way to lose tempo and get buried. It amazes me that the TCG designers 'get' the concept of limiting powerful cards, but see no reason to put such restrictions on GX and Tag Team cards, which are basically 2 or 3 Pokemon worth of power on a single card. Somehow I don't think the design intent of GX/Tag Team was 'if your deck can't front-load 200+ damage on turn 2 you deserve to lose', but that's certainly how it feels.
I started collecting lately myself, specifically FROM Lost Thunder... Mostly in effort to get Zeraora... Because I like lightning cats. ... Oddly, my luck is with OTHER cards. Mimikyu GX and Sceptile GX... Sceptile IS my favorite Gen 3 'mon, so there we go, I guess?
I love larvatar and tyranitar line, glad you got 2/3rds of it lol. Gentleman was always the hardest for me to beat in this game. Coin flips out the ying yang... nice to see some good flip exchange against him.
Wow Jack barely put up a fight. In my experience he's usually pretty obnoxious with using scoop up and legendary articuno to keep paralyzing you, but even then he isn't tough.
Your videos are one of the simple joys in life, right next to toasty cheezits and fully frosted pop tarts. Edit: WHAT ARE THE CHANCES YOU GET A SCYTHER
Wait.... You're here in Washington??? How is the weather in your side of the mountains? Lol I'm already sick of this snow and they predict more this next week, good time to stay indoors and binge watch more of your content though, right?? Excited to see what you come out with next!
my jaw dropped recently when my nephew showed me a pokemon card he'd gotten actually ( true story i swear ) it was that rare for those that care he's 5 knows nothing of the rarity of cards or how to play and he got a gigalith
Thunder Mountain is an AMAZING card. If you're making a Lightning deck in the current format, Thunder Mountain is a must-have card

7:55 So glad you brought up the "heart of the cards" line because that was EXACTLY what I was thinking after that draw too! xD
i love how much jared loves bug pokemon, the reaction to that scyther card was gr8 :D
Sees 18 minute episode, of which the first few minutes are booster pack opening...rightly assumes that Jack is screwed. Well done, Jared!
"I have the heart of the cards!" is by far my favorite line from this series! Thank you Jared!

Edit: 10:48, does anybody else think of Raichu? Like replace Chansey with Raichu and replace Jack with Jared.
Jared is Jack, letting Raichu get its brains squeezed out to set up someone else. Chansey is just better at tanking than Raichu
Good old Raichu stall strat. Miss Editor really made it hilarious.
6:45 - Wow, Articuno's abilities really left Jared out in the cold!
Thunder Mountain Prism Star is one of the best cards in the set, actually

I for one welcome our new Bug-type overlords with Jared leading the charge.

Wait.... You're here in Washington??? How is the weather in your side of the mountains? Lol I'm already sick of this snow and they predict more this next week, good time to stay indoors and binge watch more of your content though, right?? Excited to see what you come out with next!
Excited for the finale but sad to see the series end
So... Projared also got me buying some Pokemon booster packs
so far these elite four wannabes are a bunch of chumps
Our dear editor is correct. Articuno is the best
Jack definitely has some Grey Poupon.
So Jared.... What systems do you have? I've got a couple games that I may send your way!
I feel like Jack's AI is super messed up for some reason. He made some stupid moves against me like he did against Jared and decked himself out.
"Legendary Articuno Deck"
-Discards Articuno with Professor Oak
wat
my jaw dropped recently when my nephew showed me a pokemon card he'd gotten actually ( true story i swear ) it was that rare for those that care he's 5 knows nothing of the rarity of cards or how to play and he got a gigalith
That new Scyther is dope.
Heart of the Cards!
I cant wait to see the final duel. Great series Jared.
I cant believe the games almost finished . That makes me very sad
Dammit Jared, now I want to get back into Pokémon Trading cards....
Sigh... I wish having so many bills in real life would be a good thing.
After beating the 4 grand masters you can do the challenge dome again for another rare card.
Jared gets to cocky. I hope the last master beats his ass
Man I've had a great time with this run.
Oh, there’s where I send him stuff.
That answers my Twitter question.
Love your character voices, Jared. Keep it up!!!
Congrats on getting a Pikablu card in your booster!
Oh no, more booster pack ASMR! Stream IRL TCG again, Jared. Keep it up!
