Actually before the pandemic, Belitung is pack of tourist especially domestic, from Java (Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya) almost in week end and holiday. you should come to the neighboring big island, Bangka someday! It's also nice island but more populated. There are also beautiful chinatown (or chinese village?), beautiful beaches and a lot of nice food. They were the one who invented martabak manis and it's the best.
I and my mother visited Belitung in 2017. We were very curious about the island because Belitung is the location of the famous movie 'Laskar Pelangi' and also Belitung is the resident of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, the former governor of Jakarta. Just like you, it was very exciting when island hopping. One thing that amazed us was the very big stones in the island and we wondered where the stones came from. I hope one day you can visit my hometown in Jayapura, Papua. Stay healthy. Shalom.

This place is not good as Bali or Jakarta that's has a massive infrastructure, it's just the beginning of a long-term development project.
