    Having prejudices and stereotypes is okay, before you know a country or a group of people. But you shouldn’t just shout out and pretend that it’s 100% true and it has been proven. Many prejudices come from misunderstanding. If you want to know, just find a local or someone who knows it and ask. Communicating is one of the best ways to remove prejudices and stereotypes

      @@wouldiwas8520 The thing is, these people in the video come from very urban and very modern lifestyles, the thing about Chinese people eating dogs comes from their traditions (where it was very much).
      So urban Chinese in more progressive areas may not do it.
      However, I've seen lots of evidence to confirm it does still happen in certain places, a stereotype will never be equally true about all people across all areas, but there are some places where a stereotype is a stereotype for good reason.

      @@cSedx00022 Not really, tide pods was a prank, Chinese people eating dogs is a traditional part of their cuisine. I don't recall seeing tide-pods at thanksgiving dinners.
      It may not be prevalent where these particular Chinese people live (just as eating Grits isn't common for many Americans, but for certain parts of the south it is), but in more traditional areas (such as the South West) people still do.
      Bear in mind, these Chinese people seem to live a non-traditional modern urban lifestyle, why would they eat a traditional dish like dog when they've been influence western culture (and it's love of dogs). So they'd be the last kind of people in China who would do this

      @Santos Lewynn You sound like the kind of person who accuses others of racism at the drop of a hat, are you willing to listen and discuss with others or will you hold onto your beliefs in spite of the evidence?
      These Chinese people are obviously not traditionalists, they've clearly grown up in a modern urban environment influenced by western culture (and it's love of dogs) their opinion doesn't reflect the more traditional parts of China (such as the south west) where there's regular evidence of large numbers of dogs being eaten www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/33223450/why-the-uk-doesnt-eat-dog-meat-but-people-in-china-do

    • @sjiang5927
      @sjiang5927 5 років тому +9

      I wouldn't say so. Maybe sometimes, but these generations haven't been able to experience their upbringing otherwise; it's kind of difficult just to imagine how it might be like had they had siblings. But, loneliness definitely hit the parents hard when the only kid grows up and eventually leaves home, because traditionally Chinese people have a strong family tie.

      I’m not Chinese, but I’ve spent a lot of time in China. I think the role of siblings has been taken by their cousins and their classmates. Chinese people have relatively close relationships with their extended family. Most Chinese people are as close to their cousins as Americans are to their siblings. And, Chinese kids do spend a lot of time in school. They become very close to their classmates.

    I keep seeing people say we eat dog meat. That is like 3 parts of china at max. I never met a person who ate dogs my whole life and I only knew when I heard someone say we ate dogs. If you think we are “lying” then get the hell out. People who think that without thinking strait shouldn’t go spilling misinformation like it’s real. I get it if it’s a joke but many people take it as far as thinking everyone eats dogs and crap. I would never eat bugs, dogs, cats, and other wild animals. My only source of meat ever is fish, cow, pig, chicken, and a few more sea animals.

    I think stereotypes about Chinese culture may differ depending on the country. In France I would say the stereotypes about Chinese people are : they eat dogs, they work a lot for almost no money (even children), when someone is sentenced to death the family has to pay for the bullet in the head, they kill their babies if it's a girl. I don't think anyone in France has the stereotype of Chinese people being loud, impolite or stupid. I mean Chinese immigrants living in France are almost invisible, kind, polite (not like some other immigrants if you know what I mean).

      Yes, there are dog eating restaurants in chinese countryside, but it's fading out pretty much, maybe not fast enough though(my opinion). I know everyone watching this wants to see themselves as enlightened and act like they're so above believing in stereotypes, but this stereotype has merit, just not in every part of China.
    These Chinese people obviously grew up in non-traditionalist urban areas, so of course they'd be less concerned with eating a traditionalist Chinese food, especially when they've been influenced by the west (which loves dogs), but the stereotype often still applies
