I’m a creative writing student and from my perspective this is a really good film. I feel like it’s way ahead of its time and is clearly not for everybody. Yes the plot was confusing but not to the point of incomprehension. It might seem overwhelming at first but really the issues that it tackles are relevant in this age. I really commend the director for incorporating fresh techniques in telling the story. We have to remember that the techniques like the bold flashy colors and head twirling cinematography all contribute in telling the story. Maybe the purpose of the creator was to show the confusion raging inside the character’s minds, really it’s up for interpretation and that’s what makes a good film. It disturbs you and makes you question what you previously know. This film allows you to look at issues in a more realistic way (but conveyed in a very artistic manner) and maybe that’s why it doesn’t sit well with most viewers. Life isn’t always a happy ending, we’re too invested in a happy resolution that we forget life never goes the way we planned it. Give this film a chance.
emily t thank you for pointing that out...I mean I thought I was the only one drowning in this beautiful movie ❤...I think this movie was honestly a masterpiece....the cinematography, the bgm..everything from the beginning to the end captured my interest....the way it dealt with body image issues, inferiority complex, emotional abuse...it was really good a movie
People tend to like streamlined & borderline mediocre, vanilla romance films.
This was an art-house film. I could just imagine what people who saw this on a platform like Netflix would feel under the romance genre.

It really was. I loved the different shots and angles, it was intriguing. The movie had so much potential, but the actual storyline wasn't good.
Idk why so much hate for this movie it's great from the plot to the cinematography. It really isn't confusing if you watch it with an open mind, it actually says alot about the real life and our society. Not all stories has good endings remember that. It's not trash it's just not your type of movie. I absolutely loved it and would recommend it!

i loved this movie! i feel like the people who don’t like it or were confused didn’t really take into consideration how important the ‘little details’ are like camera angles and the scenery play a big part in the story telling here. i especially like the way they shot the scene where she visits the idol guy at the shoot, i rewatch it so much honestly. it’s really well shot and just adds to the ambiance and the story so well. this definitely isn’t the movie for people who want something surface level and obvious to the eye. this makes you dig deeper and observe.

i love this movie, like really. the way it has been produced is beautiful, it feels like you're falling in love but you're way to confused to know who you're in love with and if you really like them or it's just some reaction you have because you feel so lonely. you can feel the mixed emotions of the main character, and i think it's beautiful, i kinda wish my life was this amazing. sorry and don't forget to drink water.

I downloaded this movie because this video convinced me. I watched the entire movie with a huuuuuuge question mark on my face. I was confused the entire 2 hours. I was on a 2.5hour flight so i had time to throw away. I still dont know, how, why, what... this movie just throws a huge WTF on you.
I have never agreed so much in my life, it was just so confusing there choices but the edit made it look a lot more interesting!

I agree with u, and I do find really f*cked up the thing with his brother, but aside from that, the whole storyline was so... new, original. You don't see this kind of art film that much, and the fact that they chose this kind of direction for the movie made a lot of people mad and disgusted... For me, I was really impressed by the way they showed her life, her family, the characters were all just so realistic that I felt like this kind of really f*cked up situation could actually happen around me. They just looked so human that it gave me goosebumps. Also, it really portrayed how decisions can destroy your life, how feelings can make you feel messed up, and still (talking about her brother), how you deal with them. The ending was... confusing. And too weird for my taste. But still, if there are more people that can appreciate an art film without thinking too much about the stigmas, they could find out the director and writer's goal at making such a film. aLSO this movie is just too complicated for many people, so if anyone wants to watch this, better have good comprehension skills otherwise they won't know what's going jadjasdnjank that's what makes it even more treasurable, I think.

When I watched it for the 1st time, I didn't like it. I think it was because I had to pay attention to the subtitles so I lost the thread of the story. Then I re-watched the movie ...and now it's one of my favs. Very realistic movie and the acting is great. I don't understand why people don't watch more Japanese dramas&movies. Japanese are really amazing...sometimes a bit shocking because they're not afraid of controversial subjects ...but that's life

The movie’s good and bad at the same time. Yes, it’s confusing. But it’s very interesting. There’s a few plot holes but the plot is very realistic and relatable for most Asian teens.

As a Japanese cute love story lover, I think this movie isn't about the cute love story we want to see in all movies, this is more like reality of this modern world, I was actually surprised with this story and bold approach, If you are looking for lovey dovey movie this isn't for you, but if you are into the realistic story then yes, A good movie with great cinematography indeed.
