  • I add a simple lift to my log splitter. I need a way to process the large rounds, with minimal effort.

    I had intentions of building a lift probably 30 years ago but decided to split small stuff first and stack up a "ramp" to roll big ones up. It has served me well, at 65 years old, I can still get a 30 inch round up on the beam.

    • @nauvooacres
      @nauvooacres  9 місяців тому +1

      That’s not a bad idea. I do less splitting these days just focus on logs to run through the processor. The big big rounds will just pile up for now.

      It has certainly been a back saver for the big rounds. Thanks for watching!

    I would extend the foot about 6 more inches and add a "wing" to the outside for a bit more stability with those larger rounds. Great job. Was planning to build a "side loader" but this "front loader" is much more simple and doesn't require all the pulley's and retention spring required for the side loader. I like the way you engineered the spring loaded stop as well.

    • @nauvooacres
      @nauvooacres  5 місяців тому

      Foot definitely would benefit from an extension for the bigger rounds. Front loading made it much simpler and gets the job done. Thanks for watching!

    I’ve been watching videos on log lifts for a couple days now. I’m getting too old to lift them, and I just got a bunch of huge maple rounds and I have to make something to get them up on the splitter. Even though my huge home made splitter can do vertical, it is hard on the back doing it like that. You did a great job on yours. Simple but it works. I really like the way you did it. I had a few ideas but would have taken me much longer. So thanks and good luck with your channel. ✌️👍🇺🇸

      Your statement is exactly the reason for the lift. The splitter in vertical would wear me out faster than picking up rounds I shouldn’t be lifting. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks, I have the same log splitter sold in Australia under a different brand name, Mines a 28T but this has given me a different idea.

    Very kool lift build! Huge back saver from having to split in the vertical position. Always hurts my back in vertical. This is a way better way to split those big rounds.

    • @nauvooacres
      @nauvooacres  Рік тому

      Exactly! Vertical splitting was always rough on me. Picking up rounds I shouldn’t took less toll on me that splitting vertical did. This lift helped me with splitting stuff I would otherwise leave to rot. Thanks for watching!

    Fantastic idea well done! I had some hydraulic cylinders laying around so I’m going that route but if I didn’t this would have worked perfectly

    My load of rounds had sizes 3 feet in diameter. I was wishing I had a tractor with a bucket, or a lifter of some sort. I ended up putting the tongue on the ground and found I could easily roll the round into the jaws. I also found I could sit on a round with a cushion and work with my shoulders instead of my back. I have been doing it for 4 years and a 88, I can do another year.

    I have the same splitter and just move it to the vertical position and split those larger rounds in half or quarter. Then back to horizontal to split them to the size I need. Looks like a good alternative though.

    What I found worked well for big rounds was took some scrap 2x4 and 2x6 and made it when you flip splitter up it went around bottom and log wouldn't try to fall to the side

    • @nauvooacres
      @nauvooacres  Рік тому +2

      I never liked putting my splitter in the vertical position. It always seemed to make my back hurt more trying to use it that way to split. With the log lift I put on the splitter, it has to stay hooked to something at the hitch or it will tip up.

    • @flyinryan1986

      @@nauvooacres ok I understand the back hurting.with it in vertical position I think what was the worst for me was it always the log trying to tip helped a lot with platform. I do like the lift and your videos

    • @nauvooacres
      @nauvooacres  Рік тому

      I don’t like splitting vertical. I have more back issues trying to move the logs around and into position. Mostly a personal preference.

    • @exjw8623
      @exjw8623 Рік тому +1

      @@nauvooacres You still have to move the logs around to get to the lift, you make no sense.

    • @nauvooacres
      @nauvooacres  Рік тому +6

      It’s something with being bent over and moving the pieces around for each split. Most high end horizontal splitters have lifts. Sorry it doesn’t make sense, it’s to each their own. I found value in the lift, and posted the build for anyone else who does.
