My "problem" was that I used the keybind [FN + WINDOWS KEY] on my laptop, which disabled my WINDOWS key. Only when I used that keybind - accidently - I got the chance to learn that was possible.

None of that worked on my wireless Redragon gaming keyboard. I switched keyboards between two computers and only the Redragon keyboard windows key was not functioning and had nothing to do with any drivers, dongle, or windows settings. Keyboard came with spare replacement buttons which I thought it odd that if it was not functioning then why was the backlit light still functioning but I tried to replace it anyways which is not easy to remove key switches, so instead I looked up how to do a factory default reset by pressing FN and ESC keys. After syncing up the keyboard to the dongle, the windows key worked once again. Turns out that this particular keyboard has the ability to turn off the windows key by depressing the FN and WIN keys at the same time to toggle it on and off.

Now I saw your comment and even though I don't have the same keyboard as you, it worked for me too. I can now use the Windows key. non of it worked, but i just realized that there is a separate button in the function row(f12) which is used to lock windows key, i accidentally may have pressed idk

Thanks, game mode was off but disabling the xbox game bar did the trick.
I was trying to skip a scene on Resident Evil 6 and before that I was cleaning my keyboard so I pressed lots of keys at the same time and somehow must have triggered the xbox game bar to activate.
Maybe.
Very annoying.
Also after reading one of the comments bellow I tested the FN+WIN keys and in fact it seems that was what caused the issue, pressing those two at the same time enables and disables the windows key on Red Dragon keyboards.

For those with an Alienware laptop with windows key problems, press fn and f6. it might fix you're problem. spamming fn and the windows key at the same time might work as well.
