    You gotta start somewhere!!
We have Rex and love that garden gold!
I like the way the stuff falls through but around here predators would pull him through. I have to use hardware cloth. I only use clean hay for my rabbit cages. They nibble so always fresh. In summer when it's hot I have some floor tiles I use it's cooler. They really need something to stand on or the wire hurts their feet causes sores.
Good luck with your new rabbit!

Loved this video! You have a great start for your rabbits! We always did new Zealand and Californian mixes. It's been a couple years since we did rabbits but we used to use hardware cloth as a hutch covering, including the floor. I was thinking it was half inch but I'm not positive. I do remember using a thicker hardware cloth for the bottom than the sides. Poo just fell right through! You don't need to compost it AT ALL just put right on the garden. That straw is good to keep the weeds down in your garden if you mulch between the rows. PS- sore hocks is something I've ever seen on blogs not in real life. Maybe I was lucky but my father in law did rabbits for years and said he'd never seen it either.
Keep up all the hard work!!

Those dog crates are great for the rabbits , but for a doe with babies you need to use a hardware cloth or something around the sides because the babies will go right through the gap and fall out when they start to wiggle out of the nest . I cleaned mine daily and used pine shavings with a solid plastic floor . It makes excellent compost , straw is fine too, idea is to capture the urine and the poo, if your growing veggies its a great idea to spread livestock minerals , Epsom salts(for magnesium) and cheap sweet feed (to help grow healthy bacteria and feed your plants . My second yr of doing this doubled my veggie size and the plants were super healthy . That alone will help fight pest. Good luck :)

need to mix your manure with green too. Maybe old alfalfa? Then you have the carbon with the hay and wood chips, the nitrogen with the green stuff and the manure.

I have found chickens a lot easier than rabbits. Chickens produce more food with less work in my mind. Best of luck with your project, and hope you will keep us updated.

A rabbit can produce as much meat as a half a side of beef.

Lion head cross. They always pick one corner for a potty.
