When "Enterprise" first aired the song came in for so much criticism from Trekkies all over the world....but not THIS Trekkie! I loved it from the first time I heard it in the first episode. Time Trekkies stopped hating on it...it is part of our Space History now! :)
I agree: The song ain't awful by any stretch, & it fit the visuals very well. Plus the orchestral theme (played over the end credits) that gave Trekkies wet dreams -- sort of a wilting New Age pastiche -- wasn't exactly wonderful.
+sweetangel0467 : Russell was on Tour when he was asked to do this at rather short notice. The Tour took him to a number of the UK's most beautiful cathedrals just before Christmas and this was recorded (if memory serves) at a 'sound check' at Derby Cathedral... so you've got some echo! Please don't let that diminish the emotions that the song evokes.
So if pluto is 2.9 billion miles from earth and the speed of light at which radio signals also travel is 300 million mph. How the hell does it only take them 4 hours to receive the signal from the space craft. Am I reading into this wrong or something?
Bruce Thompson We're all different, Bruce, and it would be strange if we weren't but that's just your opinion. We'll respect your right to hold it but would say that other people love him and his singing to bits, and we'd invite you to listen to some of his other material before making such a sweeping condemnation.

Even though it was not Star Trek, it fit the theme of the show.

I loved it too
Gave me chills when you started singing. Bravo good sir. I have always loved this song, even when they shortened it up for the later seasons. :)
Wooow... Russell you are my favourite singer...
If I only I was still working as a NASA Educator with teachers and kids ... I'd use this every day. Many thanks.
I love this song, it is just as appropriate now as it was for Enterprise.
Have always loved this song.
fantastic
its been a long time (armillary sphere image) gettin from there to here (early solar system map)
Cool!
Truly a sad thing that the echo ruins it. :/

+Bruce Thompson It's actually mostly because of the room.
