I'm so impressed by this video! There are so many new books for me to read! I always find myself struggling to chose something to read and its so nice that you included audio books in your video.
Another fantastic video. _God's Children_ is definitely on my TBR! Once again, thank you for all of the great content--including the interview with Mabli Roberts.
So many books, and some fantastic ones in there! So glad to see Robyn Hobb in here. Also just picked up The Wonder from the library on a whim too, so was really pleased to hear it won your top spot for the year. :)
Great list! I've found that my taste in books has a good amount of overlap with yours, so I was especially excited to hear about your favorites of the year. There are several of these that are also favorites of mine, and I'm looking forward to checking out some of the ones I haven't read!
I found your channel from a recommendation, because I'm attempting to get more into classics this year. You completely sold me on your love for Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I read the last (16th) book in the series last year, and Robin Hobb has become one of my favorite authors. I also read Everyn Hugo last year and loved it for the same reasons you mentioned.
I want to read so many of these - you always give great recommendations. The first book I read on your recommendation was The Casual Vacancy which was fantastic and now whenever you say you love a book I think "well I'd better read that then!"
So glad that Once Upon a River + Assassin's Apprentice made it onto this list as I adore both books. I recall you mentioning Deerbrook last year and have it written down to check out in future. Such a vast array of literature on this list. I'll have to get to a few of these at some point. Hope 2020 brings as just many your favourites your way and is rather marvellous.
Happy New year!Thank you very much for making this wonderful video.I am looking foward to read all these books and specially Trollope, that it is pretty unkown here in Germany. You are a treasure of a person!
Great picks !!! Loved Ms Ice Sandwich too thanks you and I discovered Thirteenth tale / Diane Setterfield😘❤️❤️ These all sound so so good !! Thank you for sharing your list with us Katie xxx
I love all of Sarah Waters' books, but Affinity is by far my favourite. I read it 20 years ago and I can remember where I was at the shout-out-loud shock...Yes, yes, yes to The Bedlam Stacks! I also loved Exposure. Helen Dunmore wrote a tremendous range of novels: I recommend The Siege, in particular. Thanks for video.
All of these books look amazing!!! I can feel my TBR growing as the minutes go by. Hahaha 💕💗💕 I have Assasin's Apprentice and Affinity so I'm definitely bumping them up on my list. Happy Holidays, Katie!!!
This was fantastic Katie! Wonderful video/mini reviews 😀. I have Watchmaker on Kindle so I want to get the audio somehow and I will definitely listen to it in time to get the next one (expecting that I love it). I also want to read Thirteenth Tale this year (since I only read a third during that readalong 🙁) and I just placed a Book Outlet order that includes Once Upon a River so I am even more excited for it now! I completely understand what you mean about the Wonder and how it gave you symptoms. I haven't read that one yet but I have read (and LOVE) Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon and since that book is about a girl who is housebound due to illness I needed to read as much of it outside as possible to feel like I could breathe. Wonderful video as always! 😀❤️📘🎉
I suppose it isn't too surprising, but a lot of our books overlap this year! I have to film and post my favorites video soon. I can't wait for the Lost Future of Pepperharrow! And I'd like to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo as well. Also, so many of your December books made this list!
"Once upon a river" was also one of my favourite reads of 2019 :) And since you like victorian novels I highly recommend you to read "The silent companions" by Laura Purcell. It has a very dark atmosphere, a variety of characters, jumps back and forth in time and has a brilliant ending. Another book I highly recommend is "The forgotten garden" by Kate Morton. And definitely adding "The wonder" to my never ending TBR pile 😁
Once Upon a River is just amazing! As is The Wonder! I have indeed read The Forgotten Garden and loved it - although that was about ten years ago, and I don't remember it well! I actually got The Silent Companions for Christmas, so I'm really looking forward to that.
I took your advise and picked up Natasha Pulley.... I have to agree with you they are wonderful. I finished 'Watchmaker" and moved on to "Bedlam", which I really did not like. I found it too predictable. BUT, I can't wait for her next, from what I hear it has peaked my curiosity. Plus what that lady does to research her books absolutely blows me away. Thanks for the suggestion. Lee K.
I'm so curious about your reading habits. Are you constantly reading? How do you read all these books (for work and pleasure) in a year? Can you talk about it?
I like your channel. I request a list of 10 books which is a must to read of 20th and 21st century writers and authors. I have mostly done older ones and some even of salman Rushdie. I want to start on the greats on the above centuries.
Not sure I'm the best one to ask, to be honest - I don't feel like I know 20th century literature well enough to recommend the best 10 books from it to read!
Now We Shall Be Entirely Free is a Book that’s stayed with me. I loved it. Same with The Bedlam Stacks. Haunting. I recommend The Man Who Saw Everything by Deborah Levy A Ladder To The Sky by John Boyne A Place For Us
I'm so impressed by this video! There are so many new books for me to read! I always find myself struggling to chose something to read and its so nice that you included audio books in your video.
Thanks! :) I love audiobooks so much.

Enjoy :)

YAAAAAY I am so glad The Wonder got the top spot! It was in my top 5 too! Thank you for recommending it! I adored it!
IT IS SO AMAZING
Thinking your 2019 favourites might be my 2020 copycat challenge read! Very inspiring, thank you x x
I hope you enjoy them XD

Yay, I'm so excited you loved them both.

I was blown away by The Wonder. It’s excellent.
It was just amazing!
Glad to be reminded of Sweet Bean Paste, sounds like a book I'd like!
It's great!
It continues to surprise me how similar our tastes are! Guess that means I really need to pick up The Watchmaker of Filigree Street 😁
Oooo I am super curious to know what you think of it!

You so need to read all of those - they're amazing!!
Oh wow so many books I want to try. I’m reading the ice sandwich this month as Charlie is lending it to me and I’m so excited by it 😁😁
Ice Sandwich is amazing - I hope you liked it!

I think you'd like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It has so many Thirteenth Tale vibes . . .
"Once upon a river" was also one of my favourite reads of 2019 :)

I think you'll like Pepperharrow if you liked Watchmaker :)
I loved reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo with you!
It's soooo good!
I really like Affinity, I think it is ones of Sarah Waters best novels and underrated of her books
Agreed, it's my favourite Sarah Waters book, and you rarely see it mentioned anywhere.
It's so underrated - I love it!
I'm so curious about your reading habits. Are you constantly reading? How do you read all these books (for work and pleasure) in a year? Can you talk about it?
I've made a video about this before :) Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/bCGXcJXZgtE/v-deo.html
thanks very much. Can't wait to listen to Daisy Jones
It's AMAZING!
Sorry, what? Victorian Peru?? Sold... and the Watchmaker too as you enthuse so greatly. Thank you!
It's great!!
Assassin's Apprentice is so good! ^^
It's amazing!
Affinity is the only Sarah Waters book that I don't have yet.
I highly recommend it!
God's Children sounds like one for me. Thanks.
It's amazing - highly recommend!

@@katiejlumsden ok. Thanks. I have googled it and have made a list of 20 from mostly booker and Pulitzer prize winners. 20th and 21st century

I recommend
The Man Who Saw Everything by Deborah Levy
A Ladder To The Sky by John Boyne
A Place For Us
I must read them!
