This game was SO enchanting back in the day. One of Sierra On-Line's best. I have some really fond memories playing it for the first time on Christmas Day '95. I mean, this was the golden age of CD-ROM adventure games.
Middle to late 90's was the best time for soundtrack in games IMO. Maybe it's just nostalgia, or it's all thx for space limitations (less songs) but somehow I can easily remember all themes for older games, while most of modern games... It's just not the case.
I never played this game before but I grew up during the 1990s. Hearing this soundtrack makes me remember the days when things were more simple and when certain people in my family were still alive. I wish I could return to those days again. Modern games just don’t do it for me. Things are just too competitive and everyone wants to be number one. Game development had a lot more love put into things back then. Today it’s just about season passes and quick ways to make a buck.
I never noticed that, but soundtrack to "Torin's Passage" is really good. My favourite tracks are probably "At home" and "The Harem". And it appears that the composer, Michel Legrand, is a really prominent one, with plenty of awards and some great jazz albums. I'd better check him out.
I really wish there were some extended mixes of these tracks. I just finished writing up a 33 page Tabletop RPG for Torin's Passage to be used in conjunction with the Torin's Passage design document from Al Lowe's website to run a game, and I am setting up scenes and background music for it as well, and mixing all of these tracks by hand when I know little to nothing about audio mixing has been a chore. But this video has been SO HANDY in assisting with that.
You might already know but just in case, there are alternative prototypes of some songs by Michel LeGrand I think. Like at 16:48, there is a prototype called, "Love Theme". Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/-3Dm6d4DdZU/v-deo.html The many others are on that channel as well Hope your project goes well, I'm definitely interested👍
Fun Fact: The demo of Torin's Passage that was distributed via Shivers (another Sierra game) featured the Tripe and Viscera scene. I wonder if there was any content that was cut from the final release, like in the case of Aladdin's Math Quest.
The last wave of adventure games. Many of them were great, but in late 90's market was all about RTS and shooters (Note: nothing against strategy of action - I'm fan of both). It's really sad when you think about it.
23:08 Torin thinking: Now what do I do? All this way, just to be arrested. Where's Mom and Dad? Will I ever find them? And Boogle... I hope he's ok. (Boogle Noises) Boogle! Is that you?!
How did you get some of these songs if I may ask? I'd like to get these as well, love this game to death and already got it on GoG. Wish it had the soundtrack though...
24:54 what about inserting the music that people are performing on the stage of the auditorium whenever you walk past the curtain?? i would have thought that a soundtrack as inclusive as this would have included those bits. or maybe they're not technically OST enough (although in my mind, neither was the Indiana Jones cameo :))
I'll never forget hearing The Lands Above theme as a kid. That left an impact on me.

1:27 At Home - 😪
Good lord I will never not love 13:50 song. haunting, nostalgic, and the perfect "adventure begins" song 😍
This soundtrack is so haunting... Takes me way back.
Just an FYI. This game is available on GOG and has been patched to work on newer systems. Works flawless on my Windows 10 machine.

I always thought the Intro song when the Torin gets kidnapped as a baby sounded like Laura Palmer's theme from Twin Peaks
Just watched the first season of Twin Peaks and it immediately took me back to this 😮
Nostalgia! ❤️

Waaay ahead of its time for a point and click PC game.
The Lands Above had a huge impact on me as a kid.

"The Amulet" 16:18 & "Torin & Leena" 16:48 : Oooh yeah baby...Larry to the rescue.

Best PC game of all time
I admit, I had a crush on Torin when I was a kid
13:03 - Veder's Theme
My favorite !
This soundtrack T_T so much nostalgia
You included the Indiana Jones easter egg! I managed to trigger it once, but never figured out how I did it.
are there midis or arrangements of the songs somewhere :v
I'm particularly interested at the swamp and arrival at tenebrous
That military complex, though...

I would purchase a limited edition soundtrack if available. This is crazy stuff for a video game that was released back then.
Extracted from the game CD. Only source is heavily compressed WAV files, sadly.

Fun fact : those musics in the auditorium all come from other Sierra games. They are all easter eggs.
