The "portrait" feature is very similar to the iPhone 7 Plus's. It's even better because you can refocus after you take the photo!

Huawei is one the companies that makes great hardware but the software needs to go.
+Jon Tranchida No it needs to fucking go, it's obtrusive AF and doesn't give much in exchange like TouchWiz or sense, plus is pretty much an iOS copy design wise.
+ROURKE It offers a few features that is also found in TouchWiz and then some like the capability to add functions to different fingerprints.
That's why Android is such a gift. Throw on Nova Launcher and you get an excellent mobile experience for an inexpensive price.

I like iPhones, but at the same time I love Android, so this gives me a little bit from both experiences and I just love it!

You have really made a huge impact in my life each and everyday I look back at your videos wishing that one day I can also be like you. um... this phone is fucking impressive
don't see why people are making such a fuss about how it looks like an iPhone. Huawei/honor has been known to take design cues from Apple, especially in the software department and it has been going on for years. And this one actually looks a lot more like Samsung Galaxy rather than iOS, design wise.
Loved the video. You're the only one I have seen that has gone in depth in features that this phone has. Keep it up.

Two tab nc with blur, iOS 8 multitasking, iOS settings ui, no app drawer, simple icon design with rounded square consistency, same button ui, and many more. Hardware doesn't look like an iPhone personally, but os most certainly.

I love all these Tech UA-camrs, but i have noticed that they usually unbox/review the latest color.
And sometimes the video is sponsored by the company, so they purposly send the newest color.

Thank you so much, man I think this phone looks perfect for my dad and me. I love the really nice, unique features it has, like the knuckle commands. Plus my dad and I really don't care about video recording quality. And as 2 people who will be getting a non iPhone for the first time, the iPhone-like user interface will present us with something that we're used to. unlike say, the Oneplus 3 which would present us with a bit more of a learning curve. I really appreciate your help in this decision.

China is very strict on letting foreign companies take over its consumers, so that's why so many Chinese citizens use smartphone brands such as Huawei or Xiaomi or Oppo, instead of Samsung or Apple. But the one billion people in China still prefer Apple's iOS and Apple's permium hardware, so what do these companies do? They copy the iPhone of course, and sell them to their Chinese consumers. In short, phones from Huawei were never meant to be in the hands of the people in America or other countries, they were specifically tailored to the Chinese likings.
While I didn't know that specifically, I still don't have a problem with it. It's just weird.

I'm assuming Huawei wanted to go for a 'best of both worlds' kind of theme.
I feel that their older os (before emui 5) take the worst of both worlds (an exaggeration, but it does feel like a downgraded version of each) they should've made it more like stock android in the past.
As for copying apple, well apple is very successful, so many people want to be like them. Huawei do have lots of great designs which do not look like iphones or samsung phones, such as the p9 or mate 9 (and previous version). I think the flagships of the big chinese manufacturers are more orignal while budget phones look more like copies.
Meanwhile there are new chinese companies making exact copies, it's the easiest way to attract people who are on a low budget and want to have phones that look like flagships. Either they continue to copy and slowly die off, or they begin to make real phones when they have the money to hire designers and engineers and grow.

One suggestion is that periodically, like twice or once a year, make a list of the phones you've reviewed and rank them in terms of display, battery life, geekbench, camera, and overall. Just a suggestion. That video will also be really helpful to viewers who are torn between the good phones released during that time. Smart phones are largely alike just like computer and pcs, different make same or similar operation system and user interface. We learn from our parents and friends so there's nothing wrong for Huawei to learn from Apple.
most phones look like iPhones because it is the most recognizable and in some cases, most popular in certain countries. this is why many phone brands copy Apple to look like an iPhone. if you can't afford an iPhone, then you can buy one of the alternatives
Same goes for Samsung as that's the most sold in Europe and Asia. They are industry leading at design and are very expensive. Honor 8 looks a lot like an flat Galaxy S6 clone whereas the Software is very iOS-like but with 18901801 more features.

The more manageable size at this price range is definitely the best factor going for this phone IMO

Wow. They really tried to copy iOS and the design of the iPhone. Definitely not going to buy such a copy, but I know that for the chinese it's a symbol of respect to imitate someone. Cultures are different... I won't understand it. But insulting other cultures is stuck-up. We should live and let live.
Besides the fact that it's an obvious copy, it's a solid phone for a good price point. But nothing special in my opinion.

I'm a German and you are probably an American or something else. The cultures are still different. The diversity of cultures makes our world colourful and beautiful. It wouldn't be if we painted our world in black and white. And I also don't support criminals. They are in jail for a reason. They shoul not make our society or community worse.

Exactly the video I needed to see to make my decision about the Honor 8!
My phone never got heated up for web surfing nor streaming online videos. But some heavy games do, but just slight warm, not a very big increase in temperature. For your information, my phone got heated up quickly while making video recordings and capture photos continuously (non stop shooting for more than 15mins). It got heated up at the top part of the phone, but it also cool down very quickly. So basically nothing much to worry.

Huawei G9 Plus was announced recently. Now it's kinda hard to choose between those 2 because G9+ features 4k recording and Honor 8 it's the best looking phone ever IMO.
The packaging on this smart phone was thought out very well :)

That screenshot of a page does wonders if you want to save battery and still read a whole article. Though granted you could achieve much better results by simply saving the webpage (minus the images to speed it up) which gives you access to subpages as well.
Nice review. Though I would personally pay more attention to the mic, sounds considerably different depending on the setting you are recording in.

Wow, what a review! This review is so good, the best among of all reviews out there. The review is very helpful in deciding on pre-ordering the Honor 8, taking advantage of pre-order free gifts. Have never used Huawei's emotion UI before, this review does a good job in what emotion UI can offer. And it is impressive, coming from a Samsung phone, I like the fact that I can change the order of the buttons at the bottom, the "back" button for Samsung is on the right, all other Android phones is on the left, as a right handed user and being used to Samsung's phones, I like the "back" button on the right. Being able to change this button layout in Honor 8 is awesome. This is a very good hardware, software review. Thank you.

Huawei is currently no 1 in China and they have started raising their standard after the success with Nexus 6p and now we are seeing great design and new concept by Huawei , which is great for consumers and honor 8 is also the part of that transformation and it's a great phone with dual camera at budget price for those who can't afford p9 and great video I loved it.
the only thing I like about this is that PRO Video mode where you can use MANUAL FOCUS how I wish high end smartphone flagships have that option
