There are also "homecoming" celebrations where graduates are encouraged to visit and see how the school is doing. Typically, a proper greeting would be "Hello sir." or "Hello Mr. Zhang." In English, students usually call their teachers by an honorific (Miss, Mister, or Missus) and then the teacher's last name. I'm Asian, so there are many context that I'd like to share too! - In my university, whenever we have a period of time allowing visitors to visit (usually in hopes for new students to enroll into the university), we call them 'Open Day' here. - While I generally try to avoid doubule negatives, but I try to follow the double negatives used in the story, because it feels like taking the double negative away would lose the original contextual tone. It's quite a nuance tbh, I'm still uncertain of how to deal with this one. - The 'first' part is definitely a very Chinese (or maybe Asian) thing to say but I'll find time to change that! The more exact way to explain the 'first' is actually something like "I'll be leaving before you guys do", or something like "I'll be the first to leave so please excuse me", something like this. But somehow in where I grew up we just gotten so used to the word "first' and it's such a hard habit to break TT - Also about 'Teacher', it's actually very common for Chinese to call teachers as 'Teacher' or 'Teacher (surname)'! Though in colleges or universities we'll use 'Professor' more often.
