    Shoeburyness n Essex is always windy. It also has a large strip of grass on the beach to fly kites.

    That was going very well, It turned tightly, didn't skid backwards out of the turns, looks like a good design, and the colour is good, big bold patterns are best at a distance, overall that appears to a good stunt kite, one to keep in the car for days with kite flying winds.

    Absolutely smashing.
    Brings back memories of the early "stunt kites" from the 70's. Mine was a red delta form with a long blue plastic tail. I had hours of fun with that. I wanted to treble the length of cord to extend it to 500ft or more - enough to make it a postage stamp in the sky.
    I'm now 60, and thinking of buying the new types of stunt kite for our camping trip this year.

      Thanks, Mark. I usually have kites in my car so I can make use of the wind when conditions allow. Usually when I have taken planes to fly and it turns out too windy 😆😆Regarding the length of cord, in the UK the legal maximum height you can fly a kite is 60 metres. @@GrandadIsAnOldMan Thank you. Greqt idea keeping the kite at hand, in the car. I thought there maybe a legal limit to altitude but that is just the child in me reaching for the moon..
      Again, I really enjoyed your presentation. All the best.

      I bet you roasted in the sun, that was an incredibly hot day. You can usually guarantee wind at Brean but I have driven down there from Bristol just to fly kites and found it dead calm on more than one occasion 😀👍

      @@GrandadIsAnOldMan Yes it was incredibly hot both days! and very windy as well, he only had a cheap kite but it managed to fly both days despite the strong winds. Looking at getting him something better, maybe even a land board at some point as well as he really enjoyed it. Probably coming down again in a few weeks, been to Brean most years since I was a kid, we are just outside Stratford Upon Avon so not to far to travel.

    I have a new bebop flame stunt delta and plan to fly it when the warm weather starts up, not sure if youd prefere the wrist strap variant of a kite reel or what you used in this video, but either way nice job

      Generally, assuming the wind does not drop conveniently, I take it all the way to one side or the other and you can get it to lose lift and drop to the ground.

    Some good flights there. Is it hard to keep them doing stuff in the air?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому

      No the general flying is easy enough once you get the feel of it. It seems to come fairly naturally. Focusing on the kite helps keep your orientation, Pull the left line and it goes left, pull the right line and it goes right. Hold them together and it goes straight. (More or less).

    When it starts to tilt and turn to one side do you pull the cord on the opposite side? Just wondering because I had a very hard time manoeuvring one of these. Thanks

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  Рік тому

      Assuming you have the lines straight and your left hand pulls the left wing, your right hand pulls the right wing. Both hands together, and it will climb up vertically. Pull gently with your left hand to turn left. Pull gently with your right hand to turn right. You can do lots of loops before the lines bind too tightly to control it, but it is a good idea to do the same number of loops in the opposite direction to unwind them and keep them free.

  • @wordreet
    @wordreet Рік тому

    That's quite a nice looking kite. Did you mention at the end that the lines are a bit stretchy? If so, you'll really be needing some Dyneema kite lines, they don't stretch at all!
    Hehe, I just re-started a bit of kite flying. Although my kite bag has never been totally out of sight, it's now parked near the front door for the first time in about 10 years! Hmm, and the last time I went to Brean Sands was a Vauxhall Car Owners meet more than 15 years ago!

      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  Рік тому +2

      Hey, long time. Good to hear from you 😁 I am pretty sure that kite no longer exists, had a few too many heavy landings. I didn't do much kite flying last year. In fact haven't done much for quite a while, certainly nothing regular. Still keep a few kites in the back of the car, just in case.

    • @chrisg1286
      @chrisg1286 8 місяців тому

      yeah he did, and i thought to myself while watching this how stretchy the strings were at about 2.15......makes a difference with non-stretch strings, the control is 10 times better

    I've seen a man torment pedestrians and pets at the beach by doing fly-by stunts precariously close to them. Many don't realize stunt kites can reach speeds close to 100 mph.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  2 роки тому +1

      You can do quite a few before you start to notice any extra friction on the lines. As long as you do some in the opposite direction to undo them again you shouldn't have any trouble.

  • @ya00007
    @ya00007 2 дні тому

    how do you untwist the lines?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  2 дні тому

      @ya00007 Ideally, you do the same number of left turns as right turns. That way they don't need untwisting when you have finished flying.

    What kind of handles are those?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  2 роки тому

      They are the standard handles that came with the kite. They are convenient for winding the lines up. Many kites come with them, so I expect they are cheap to produce and better than the really cheap flat handles that crush when you wind the line round them too tightly.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  2 роки тому

      If you were looking to buy one online, I would suggest getting one (or 2 if you are using 2 lines) with a winder handle, something like these on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313596302228 or www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164871764917 it makes winding the line back in much easier, and has a lock on it so you can adjust the amount of line paid out.
