I didn’t thoroughly understand routing which was my biggest hang up. Unlike analog systems, you don’t physically move cables to route some of the inputs and outputs. The best advice I ever received when I first started was to choose a DAW and learn it. I used Reaper for years. I decided to take some recording classes at my local college which was using Pro Tools. The cool thing is my local college also offered Pro Tools classes to compliment the recording classes.

Hello, Please help me, I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen and I use the headphone output with a adapter from 1/4 to 3.5mm to connect my In ears to monitor myself while recording. Is it posible to use the monitor outputs of an audio mixer to connect directly a in ear earphones using an adapter from 1/4 to 3.5mm? This, to monitor myself while singing live without damaging the equipment. I have a Yamaha Portable PA System with Bluetooth Stagepas 400BT with an audio mixer and a Shure SE215 PRO Wired Earbuds. Line Level Monitor outputs can be connected to the inputs of a headphone amplifier, but cannot power the earphones themselves. You’ll need to use the headphone output on front for that.

The best part about this video is the click track part, because that flaw in the recording demonstrates just how important it is. No matter how skilled you think you are as a musician, no matter how nice the track sounds, and no matter how well you think you can hold a beat, you're probably not on the beat. In a fully live recording, you can play whatever fluid tempo you want. In a multitrack recording, your second track is at the mercy of the first track's tempo. The stress of following that recording will utterly break you, but the temptation to attempt it will be strong. Sometimes the best sounding tracks are the ones where you screwed up the tempo and you will feel very torn about deleting and re-recording it. So the closer you are to the click starting from track 1, the less hair you're going to pull out. This is why practicing with a metronome is essential for all musicians. Do it regularly until it stops feeling uncomfortable. Let the neurons grow and figure it out _before_ you walk into a studio. In fact, I would go even further and suggest that every musician have a DAW setup at home that they use during practice, whether they mean to record something for real or not. Practicing with a metronome and hearing yourself through the headphones can be incredibly disorienting. The tone will be different, there may be a delay, the _metronome_ will have a delay that matches the DAW delay, and you're gonna sound different through the mic. All of this is going to end up in the front of your mind, where it shouldn't be. Do those adjustments and make all that a part of your regular routine before you walk into a studio for real. Do it until it's a subconscious part of your performance and eventually you'll start to feel like the click track is *your* instrument. And even if you're just acting as the technician for a session, using a click this will separate the good clients from the bad clients. If they're willing to play to a click, you've got a good client. If they refuse, you're going to be fixing the timing in post. If they were recorded with effects like delay pedals and reverb through an amp, the plugins are gonna have a helluva time fixing it and will probably fail. So you may want to ensure that it's a bare DI track so you can add in those effects _after_ you've cleaned up their performance.

Good question! It is slightly different for each DAW, but there should be a setting that tells the DAW which folder on your computer to scan for plugins. Then, each time you open the DAW, it will automatically scan that folder and make those plugins available.

There are many aspects to the industry: live sound, recording, film, system design, corporate AV, etc… It’s hard to say - just make sure to consider the work hours and how it fits into your life.

Keeping things as simple and inexpensive as I can, my kit consists of a MacMini (16GB/1TB) running Logic Pro X (GarageBand also works fine) with a Samson G-Track Pro mic which also serves as audio interface. Nothing else is required, aside from voice and musical instruments. The mic allows me to connect an instrument via 1/4” line input jack and then mix voice and instrument channels to headphones connected via 1/8” stereo output jack using separate switches and volume controls for mic, instrument and headphones. Easy to use with minimal clutter, zero latency to record and monitor high-quality, noise-free tracks. And as tracks are laid down I listen to them without having to toggle between output sources. I just hit playback and enjoy.

I don’t believe so. However it works with any DAW. If you’re looking for an inexpensive option, I recommend Reaper.

I’ve got it set up for a count-in of a few bars. You can change that by right-clicking the click (metronome) button.
