Great Truck, Love the Bison & The ZR2 Editions, but what a shame not adding the Front Locker since that's the whole thing with ZR2 that makes it so special in the Colorado & Silverado
I think because they didn't limit the speed with the rear locker on. Kinda makes sense...but I'm with you for the most part
Diesel torque + front locker + front CV axles = a lot of warranty claims. Don’t blame them at all for only doing a rear locker. A front limited slip would have been nice though
@@MSparks9509 - or a Torsion front axel. Ford has copied a lot from GM lately, GMs turn!!
It looks like Ford and GM are working together more than in the past. Not a bad strategy to just ensure they retain their positions in the hierarchy. They will be very solid #1 and #2 if Ram ever stops selling the 1500 Classic,,,, 😂😂.
@@MSparks9509 That would make sense. Even if that's the case, I'm surprised they didn't limit the offer of a front locker to just the 6.6 gas like Ram with the Power Wagon. But hey, I'm sure they have their reasons. A limited slip would've been acceptable.
@@tda024reason with GM is always money and laziness. I love gm but getting tired of them always half assing everything besides Corvette but they half ass that too
Wow they knocked this out of the park! I love my ZR2 Silverado 1500, amazing truck so far, I have just shy of 20k miles on it and loved it the whole time. Sad this HD ZR2 doesn't have the front locker, but I'm glad that they're going in the right direction with the push button rear locker. And the front diff with traction management and braking to lock it up is a step in the right direction still, but still sad it doesn't have the push button front locker.
You know it’s going to be amazing when AEV touches it! Not only is it amazing with AEV products, you’re also getting factory warranty, capability and safety. Amazing truck. Well done GM and AEV. The collaboration is awesome
What's the point of the fancy suspension if the bump stop is almost resting on the LCA parked!
That's exactly the same way the Regular HDs are set up. They don't have a lot of suspension down travel. The bump stop is soft though.
@@terrencejones9817 A bump stop doesn’t effect down travel, it effects up travel.
I love these insider videos. It’s cool seeing these preproduction vehicles.
Can’t wait to see an HD Bison ZR2/Tremor/Rebel off-road comparison video. -Hopefully in Moab or somewhere extreme.
The front of the truck is still the size of a refrigerator that fell over .. and the wheel wells are still square so you got to lift the hell out of it to get a good size tire on it...
Man! I didn’t even know this version of the HD Silverado existed! 😮 it looks so good with the dirt on! Just magnificent.
A truck that I finally want enough to replace my 2013 1500. I understand why they didn’t include the locker and practically I wouldn’t need it. Great compromise between towing and off-road capability.
Great looking truck, the biggest issue with me is the costs, its more than I'm willing to pay.
The Big 3 seem to be going after the top $$$ tier of their demographic and snubbing most Americans who simply can't afford $60k+ for a truck. Not sure what their end game is, but it really seems to be all about greed.
@@truthhurts4555 wait until you nads drop before you inject yourself in a grown man's conversation.
The GM engineer looks like an aftermarket bolt-on seller.
Awesome looking truck..
No front locker is complete BS though, considering all the extra weight for dedicated offroading.
Andre asks all the questions we wanted to know.. excellent!
Ford will come out with their 'Woolly Mammoth' to one up this beast.
But the Ford looks like arse, and will be _after_ the reveal of this Beast of course, in Ford fashion.
@@mybro727 Ford will take everything this Silverado is missing and give it to us though. That’s the beauty of letting someone else do it first, feedback
@@mybro727 you really think this truck looks better than a super duty? 😂.
The front end is absolutely horrible, the body lines, the huge funky mirrors on the door instead of the sill, the tiny cab, I can go on and on, I mean everyone has an opinion but the super duty is a much much better looking truck
@@leir2005You mean second? Mopar has had the Power Wagon for years already.
@@leir2005Ford marks everything up by minimum of 20k ,,then they sit on lot and collect cob webs!
First off, amazing job Andre and TFL crew. Fantastic in depth work.
Second, Hey TFL, meet your next HD truck. Once this is available for purchase, trade in that Dodge Ram and get this truck. Absolutely way better than the last two HD truck.
Can’t wait for all the amazing videos of this truck testing in Colorado.
Looks pretty sweet. I wonder how many people with 5th wheels will have bed clearance problems. I'd be a bit nervous if you're already close. That rear step delete in that Bison bumper is a big bummer too, I'd loved that step since I had it in my 2002 Avalanche. But sure does look sweet!
No front locker is a deal breaker for me. If the current front axle can’t handle the power then engineer a new axle. So disappointing.
They could have offered a Torsen Truetrac limited slip at minimum. I have on numerous times used the front diff locker on my ZR2 Colorado consulting in the oilfield in rural Wyoming, N Dakota, Nevada, Texas etc. This was going to be my next truck but get your shit together GM and give us a FULL SIZED DIESEL WITH A FRONT TRACTION DIFFERENTIAL.
Is this truck also proudly built in Mexico?
Great video Andre!
I would highlight that the new Chevy interior has the new GMC interior beat.
Note in the 24 HD GMC it has the same column shift but the console is still same as the 1500 and the cup holders are still setting fore and aft on the right side, and blank shallow pocket fillers are on the left where the 1500 floor shifter sets. And no more dash storage pocket.
Very happy to see this new HD Chevy still has the new big screen , still has the column shift, still has a storage pocket on top of the dash, still has the older right left cup holders in the console with much more storage space then the new GMC Hd.
Looks awsome. I wish they had of went with a limited slip differential in the front.
Wish chevy would introduce a optional from solid axle on HD trucks. We've been missing it since 1988
Really needs a front locker to have any real improvement off-road than a regular heavy duty.
So shocks and different bumpers exciting
As a Ram guy, I have to say this Chevy is AWESOME! I love that they maintained the heavy-duty integrity of the truck, but still factored in all of the off-road goodies. I have to admit that Chevy seemed to have gone a little further than Ram with the Rebel HD and Ford with the Tremor SD. Those 35s look really good on the truck, plus I bet it rides closer to a 1500 with the tall sidewall and DSSV dampers.
Although the Bison is pricey, it will likely retain a higher resale threshold than the standard ZR2 HD due to the highly sought after AEV components. Chevy will sale every one of these that it can make!
Whats that I hear, @TFL Truck: Oh yeah, a ZR2 HD Bison 6.6 GASSSERR going up the Ike!😊
I own a Power Wagon, and the only downside is the towing/payload capacity for me. That being said it hauls 8k lb trailer with zero issues, but man when you get off road, lock in the rear diff and disco the sway bar it is in its element.
@@sseibonnevilleman I don't disagree at all. Out of all of these HD offroad trucks that have popped up within the last few years, none have the combination of ground clearance, articulation(especially rear), f/r lockers w/ sway bar disconnect, etc that the PW has. I know people scoff at the low payload and towing of the PW, but Ram has been clear about the mission of that truck.
@@hellkitty1014 just to add, from everything I’ve read, I can just buy a set of factory 3/4 springs for the rear and install them. That basically makes it have 2k+ payload.
@@02autogt this is true. Chevy guys hate when Ram or Ford guys say this, but if you tow heavy, you'd understand why Ram and Ford stick with the solid axle.
Love you got all this info up before anyone else. Great job. Now this is a truck I am excited about.
That front bump stop is already touching the lca. 🤔 so you get like an inch of up travel
Yeah the guy seemed to want to divert attention away from that as soon as it was brought up. Look at the shock! It's a super duper DSSV!
Functionally since it’s so close to the pivot, it doesn’t work out that way. You can’t forget that down travel is just as, if not more important than, up travel. 2500s aren’t made to flex. This set up with its own front suspension components is so much better than “leveling” a regular factory 2500 with torsion keys or turning torsion bars, because when you do this you take away your down travel. Makes the ride even worse than factory 2500 rides can be. This is a huge win for “leveled” trucks. Too bad it’s so expensive.
The Silverado has used the bump stop as part of the spring since they went to IFS 4x4. From the factory it literally touches the bump stop at ride height. I cranked my keys on 33's and could stuff it coming down from jumping and leave rubber in the fender well. Even now with 6 1/2" BDS and 35's, same thing.
To skid plate to protect the fuel tank I'm questioning that and no front locker 🤔
I love the exclusive interview with the GM engineering folks. Great interview Andre!
The elephant is the room is MSRP. A base 2023 2500 gasoline High Country runs $71k. My best guesstimate? Just under $80k for a base 2500 4WD gas ZR2.
Wait till you buy one in Australia and pay up to $180k just for an LTZ.
Finally front end you wont be ashamed of, also put a winch on it. At that price point even if i dont use it I want it included.
Good job GM. Finally found the truck I want after looking for almost 2 years.
Holy shit GM finally put the plug where everyone moves it to
Can we talk about that black dually in the background? Looks like a clean tow rig.
There is a reason why GM designed its gooseneck positioned to the rear of the centerline of axle. It’s the same reason why won’t do 37 or locker the front suspension and axle can’t handle it
I believe those front bumper voids are for a high lift jack.
A live axle on the front for this special edition Silverado ZR2/Sierra at4x HDs makes perfect sense and a front differential locker to boot
@@ALMX5DP more like a usable standard equipment that should not be a option for a ZR2/at4x HD truck, if GM does that, guaranteed you that the big 💰 boys is gonna buy em in droves like hotcakes! Might cause GM some dollars to design that feature.
No front locker and price make the tremor as the better buy. Bummer, really thought gm would have front and rear lockers gm always missing easy layups
So, instead of having a front locker, it has an off-road mode similar to the Toyota A-track system.
Showcasing GM’s new “off road” 2500…addresses the grille first…lol
The only think I whisked they had kept on the silverado zr2 was the column shifter. I do miss it
Sounds like the front end is kinda like the old H1 Hummer in the front with applying brakes for traction would definitely love to see what this truck can do 🎉🎉
I’m wondering if the AEV bumper will be available to add to the other 2024 trim levels like they plan on doing for the 22 at4s and at4x
For the first time in a number of years, I like the look of the new front end it’s got some attractive shapes in it and looks better integrated.
This new CHEVROLET BISON 2500HD DURAMAX IS A BEAUTIFUL BEAST. I WANT IT !
Absolutely loved my Colorado Zr2. Change in lifestyle requires me to need more payload/towing capabilities. I'm in love.
i have a Colorado ZR2 and i want this HD ZR2! So cool! Thank you Chevy for building such a desirable and capable offroad new truck!!!
Chevy always behind, Ford already has a Super duty Tremor and Ram a Power Wagon.
@@jibrilthegreat35and RAM has, a solid axle with a locker. No diesel. If chevy did a solid axle with a locker, a winch, AND a diesel, they might have something. Oh well, back to reality.
@@scorpionsting47 the reason they didn’t put a locking front dif is because the Diesel with its torque would sheer it in half lol

Great review with TFL exclusive access.
Integrated front recovery hook points should be a tell tale sign that this truck model will be spending alot of time in the shop.
Have they fixed all the towing issues with "Trailer disconnected", "Service trailer brakes", "Trailer connected" randomly popping up? I have a 2020 2500hd LTZ Diesel and I love it except for the reliability of the electronics. Was told all of those random messages are, "working as designed". I love the suggestion though, pull over and turn the truck off - open your door then close it and restart the truck as the resolutions especially the radio issues...
No front locker is a letdown
They have been testing it enough that there was some cupping on the inner side of ther rear tires. Thinking they have had to align the truck a few times !! That the way to be testing it!! If you hit the trails really hard you will be going out of alignment more often. It will show on your front tires pretty quickly. Move them to the back to even out the wear and usually it’s all good!!
They not going to talk about the keep it dirty mint 400 footage? 👀
Built the bumpers on the Colorado bison, wonder if we gonna be doing these ones 😀 hopefully need all the work we can get hahahahaha!
You work for AEV? Whats up with that bumper on the purple concept jeep? Id buy that for my gladiator 100%
Anxiously awaiting the 6.6 gas 10 speed Ike to see if it does any better versus the 6 speed.
So I’m sitting here watching this video and notice right off the bat when you pointed out tow hooks them Recovery hooks the holes look pretty small. It reminds me of that tow hitch on my F250 and all my other trucks I could not properly fit a 5/16 hook for the tow chains to fit I had to put in them shackles. I think Ford made a bigger hitch now with a bigger hole or at least a bigger hole for that 5/16 hook to fit in so I’m wondering about those little eyelets on them Recovery hooks look as big as my fishing pole eyelets
Great episode!
Be interesting to see a comparison between this vs. the AT4 vs. AT4X...
It finally has a long enough name to potentially be considered as dlc for Forza Horizon
Very nice truck. Need to consider the extra height for clearance if towing a gooseneck.
Super cool truck! Great sneak peak.
they shoulds of made a functional hood scoop for the gas motor like a cold air intake and put a 4500 size flow tie
Dammit boy! That truck is awesome I want one!
Awesome, sweet, ❤ ...I can only add, please integrate a lever for the 4x4 at the center console.. 🤯
I mean... no skid plate over the fuel tank... that makes alot of sense because a punctured fuel tank couldn't start a fire or anything...
Can you find out if they can make a truck with independent suspension. No axels? Drive
Train dow.n the sides of the frame.
Nice truck, love the color (mud red). However, the price is out of hand. The front end of the base HD truck is way better for 24, they all have a little family resemblance.
Is the frame going to break on this one?
Can anyone explain to me why the lower control arm was against the bump stop just sitting there?
Looks so good 🔥
Truly incredible this is like the top truck in MERICA
The Bisons I remember had Detroit Diesel motors and either 6 or more commonly 10 wheels.
There so ready to go against the power wagon and tremor there unveiling the truck in a parking garage lol
Let's reserve judgment until they're put up against each other in the real world. At least they offer gas and diesel. The ram does not
Andre, are the seats the same as their standard LTZ or do they have some extra bolstering like the 1500 ZR2?
We need a sold front axle and front a rear 4 links ffs
Love this truck and set up
love the videos
It seems like a nice truck I might be considering one👍
YES!!!! I want an HD but not a Power Wagon. Wait.. Are these DSSV shocks pulled off the Colorado, like for the Silverado, or are they bigger, for added weight? I'd be worried if not bigger... My fiance speaks better English than me, and just told me the GM guy said the shocks are "Unique for heavy duty"... Hmmm but that could just mean tuned different. My fiance is drooling lol. We are on the market for an HD overlander! This is it! Unless Toyota jumps into the HD game lol
TFL always brings the news first!
When I get this baby first thing I’m doing is checking with dirt king to see if I can get a long travel kit put on it.
I love the idea and will be seriously looking into buying one, but why is it sitting on the bump stop while parked?!?
It's on the bump stop setting still.
OMG , I never believed in love but I believe , love everything about this truck , I’ll take it where do I sign 🙉😮💨👌👌
Hmm so I could throw some 35’s on my 2500 and some bumpers and have this? The shocks don’t matter when you’re perusing the grocery store and bed bath and beyond
Looks good but as others commented I have couple disappointments. Only offered in 2500, no front locker, I wish they would’ve went with coilover front suspension instead of the HD torsion bar setup, used the same multimatic shocks as half tons (should’ve increased piston diameter). I think I’d rather purchase Lt version and customize it myself with maybe kibbetech coilover conversion with king shocks. It will be interesting if you could purchase the rear locker and associated equipment and install it yourself.
While the locker would've been destroyed on Duramax version due to the torque output, they should've offered it on the gasser, if for nothing more than matching the Power Wagon in that regard.
Just put in an order for mine at my local Chevy dealership, can't wait! I got the ZR2 HD, not the bison.. The upcharge is 10k on the bison, no thanks.
Still have my 23 colorado zr2 on order and you guys already have a 2024 here 😔 I need mineeee
would a plow be able to get mounted with this AEV bumper ?
You want front locking differential to help in mud and over rock you probably want a solid front axle in a diesel, I think the ford 250 diesel tremor may be solid front axle and locking front differential
Is the spare using the same wheel, 5 wheel rotation v 4 wheel rotation? Is the spare secure, easily stolen? It the cat converters secure or easily stolen?
I wanted to hear from the horses mouth how the suspension was lifted! All i heard is that there is a block under the spring before he got cut off.. sounded like he was about to go into detail
When you gonna make the video testing this truck? I thought you will be the first ones… I saw other videos, but I want yours… hope it can be soon. The truck is In The streets already!
You mentioned the conventional towing numbers were like 18k lbs, what about the gooseneck or fifth wheels? Is the same as the normal 2500hd… is kind of confuse in your video. Hope in the future all of you guys mention that separately. 😊
Nice beautiful truck
I never understood why GM engineers have the lower control arm up against the bump stop under normal ride height.
They are going to sell the shit out of this truck! I hope the quality and workmanship makes a comeback!
Would like to see another video like this about the HD AT4x.
If it’s available for testing with chvey vs f250 tremor towing and payload test please make a video for that
No front locker....wtf
Good looking truck, great interview. GM fails…this truck has no up travel!. The bump stops are riding on the lower control arm! And for the HD ZR2, GM should have eliminated the torsion bar and put in a coil over. Again no front articulation. And no front e-locker!? Big disappointment GM!
Looks awesome
No front locker is a little disappointing considering how much you would pay for this thing
But it still has a steel bottom bumper so why ask more 🤷🏽
The GM HD front ends have historically been made of glass. Surely a locker would make it worse. However, to argue with myself, I’ve read the ZR2 1500 front ends with a locker have held up well.
Duramax would destroy that diff if it had locking capability. This ain't no 5.3l...
I'm sure GM had an engineering reason for not including the front locker :) .
@@adamtacheira5323 I've had three for plow trucks, beat the crap out of 4 wheel drive and have never had a problem with the tans, it's always the headers, or throttle body. Ever time I go out I'm loaded to about 11k pounds with rear air bags.
