When did people figure out the world was round: Greece: Pythagoras - 500 BCE, India: reported by Megasthenes - 300 BCE, Greek/Egyptians: Eratosthenes of Alexandria (also very accurately estimated size) 200 BCE, China: Zheng Heng - 100 BCE, and the Arab scholars learn the Earth was a sphere from the Greeks. But the time the Northern Europeans got to looking for trade routes and gold literate people in most major civilizations knew the world was round. Columbus wasn't trying to prove the world was round, he was trying to find a way from Europe to India without have to go around Africa. He just didn't know how far it was going to be around because there were competing theories on the size of the the Earth at the time.
Cognate with the Spanish word "caballero" and French "chevalier". Good way to remember this. I find people exposed to Spanish at home never get confused.
These are awesome to see. Some of the things I was like, what the heck, but if it worked for them, then that's great!!! I love seeing pictures and hearing the stories from way back then!!!
I think the reason the beauty judges covered up the women's faces is because they didn't want the women's face creating a bias in judging the rest of her body parts.
Crazy fact. Miss Universe started as International Pageant of Pulchritude in Galveston, Texas. The pageant started in 1905 as a way to promote that the famous Seawall was half complete and that much of The Island had been raised 17ft (5m). This was some Netherlands level stuff.
What’s interesting is prior to about the 1950’s utilitarian objects were designed and created to be BEAUTIFUL as well as functional. That included architecture! One has to wonder why beauty has been scrubbed from from our day to day lives. 🤔
The anti-distraction helmet definitely wouldn't be a distraction to everyone around you.😂 I love ancient Roman and Egyptian history, so those objects were my favourites. The Roman dice and rings were interesting, especially the holographic ring. And the sandals from Egypt were beautiful. I read an article about them, and the level of preservation for something made from organic material is astounding.
I went for a ride in a Ford Trimoter airliner like the one you've depicted in the beginning. It's not bad. Loud, but a nice ride. I mean, it might get rough in turbulence...
There's a swimming pool in Houston 40 stories up that has a shallow section made of tempered glass that hangs out over the street with a glass bottom. Imagine the baby cage was a swimming pool.
So what would you do "as a father of a nine month old" to get fresh air to your child when you are live in a tenement or even an apartment and are not able to live anywhere else? Have you been to the Tenement museum in NY? You like research, do some research on the subject.
Showing this to my 12-year-old son right now and explaining which things I’ve seen growing up. My grandma actually had that grocery list.
That portable hair dryer from the 40's looked a lot like the one my mother had back around the late 60's or early 70's.
I was born in 1962, and I remember my Mum using her portable hair dryer as well. 😊
My mum also had one in the 60s
Keep up the great work Adorian! We love your content love from Jacksonville Fl! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
and from Canada!

We had one of the coin holders at my job, but we got rid of it because it was useless.
As Simon Whistler says; "The pahst was the worst".
I used to have one of those old-fashioned Apple peelers, it is very satisfying lol
6:20 your thinking South Park 😅😅😂😂
I thought Star Wars episode 3: General Grievous has basically that!
0:29 you can still fly in a Ford Trimotor to this day.
Not "calvary," but CAVALRY. Huge difference!

The NOAA Climate Divisional Database goes back to 1895.
These are pretty cool. Several remind us that there was a time where we entertained each other! And I want that carousel tea pot.
3:45 My grandparents had one of those! We kids used to play with it all the time!
We also had one of those hair dryers (the 50s one, not the 20s one).

The love letter, if you turn it to the point is at the bottom, it's actually HEART SHAPED❤. Pretty cool.
That thumbnail was hilarious 😂
That dude looks like he bought a dirt cheap Slipknot mask
I have that shopping list device. It's been on the pantry door since my great grandmother's time.

Good video. Some whacky "inventions," like all the wild toasters from the 20's, were made to avoid the patent claims of the most popular design.
