Incredible versatility. He avoided being typecast as the prototypical handsome leading man only. Even with a bombshell like Sophia Loren opposite him he could do something as comedic as "Houseboat."

He's right, Cary Grant never got his due. And never got an Oscar (Academy Award). Hard to believe.
Of course, lots of great actors and actresses didn't.
    Judy Garland
    Robert Mitchum
    Barbara Stanwyck
    Peter O'Toole
    Ricard Burton
    James Mason
    Robert Redford
    Jean Arthur
    Orson Welles
    James Dean
    The list goes on.
Here are some great directors that never got an Oscar:
    Alfred Hitchcock
    Stanley Kubrick
    Howard Hawks
    Fritz Lang
    Orson Welles
    Stanley Kramer
    Robert Altman
    Again, the list goes on......
This list of directors that never got an Oscar is pretty hard to digest, if you know anything about cinema.
Life isn't fair, and neither are The Academy Awards.

    • @malafakka8530
      @malafakka8530 3 роки тому +5

I often say that one shouldn't care too much about Oscars and such. They are often a thing of the moment or whatever and the idea to award only one director, movie, actor and so on is stupid to me anyway. I don't think that there ever really is or was one movie, actor etc. that is better than the rest. Several movies, actors, directors and so on should get awards, not just one of them. Art isn't a competition in that sense to me. One can disagree, but personally I don't think that Gregory Peck was better in his role in To Kill a Mockingbird than Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia. If anything they both should have gotten an Oscar. Once a certain undefinable level of quality is achieved who cares who might be better? The best judge that we have is the test of time, however accurate that might actually be. Sorry for this tirade 😅

    Charm without smarm.
Drifting off topic slightly but when you hear of feminists complaining about Hollywood's unrealistic expectations of women's bodies, think about the modern male actor. He has to either be funny or ripped to within an inch of his life.
Now think back to the Hollywood greats, Grant, Curtis, Wayne, Stewart, Eastwood, etc. Not a six pack between them.
    Yes, toned but mostly talent.
