Knight commander: sounds like an experieced soldier who fears this may be his battle, tries to hype himself as much as his troops. Viking commander: sounds pissed but also sounds desperate as hell, tries to keep his troops motivated through rage and fear. Samurai commander: sounds completely confident he'll kick your ass, both amused and somewhat annoyed the attackers made it this far. Troops need no motivation with this badass. Literally laughs at your face as he top heavies you.
I remember one time in a breach match as defenders, defending the samurai Commander with Kensei was like flowing with water, parry every gank hit, dodge and block, driving them back with what little you have left.
The thing about the Samurai defense theme that I love. Is that the instruments do not falter, unlike for the Knight and Vikings where their instruments start to get suppressed and overshadowed by the grim electronic noises. The Samurai however, the instruments blare just as loud to keep up with the sounds that silence the other themes, almost making it seem like the defenders get stronger as the end draws near. While it may not be as valiant sounding early on like a hopeful defense for the other themes. The fact it keeps its form even as the battle reaches its end. Shows not just a hard defense, but a slightly grim but valiant last stand, that even in its last moments. Is characterized not only by the grim approach of death in the form of these electronic noises, but by the steady increasing sound of drums and strings. 8:06 For much like the instruments, the Samurai will not falter. Even as the possibility of failure encloses around them, they will just try harder to go down fighting. And not go down quietly.
Interestingly this also is inline with the way the samurai live within for honors world, always out numbered with less resources available to them. "The samurai have always been on the verge of extinction, each attack bringing them closer and closer yet, they continued on. Each one of their warriors worth 10 of any other." An approximation of what apollyon said about them.
Heck yes! I absolutely love the knights' themes (best ram chant hands down!), but whatever string instrument that comes in at points like 8:20 freaking nails a heroic stand down to the last man, arrow, and yari against the endless tides of stinking neckbeards. Marching Fire did a great job with the OST. The original game's one was one that, while great, fit more in context with only a few songs that stood out on their own. Marching Fire's tracks pretty much all stand alone, and that's just the official versions released. add in the context and the additions in game like kicking up the drums as things get closer to the end... *whistles*
Viking defend theme: Struggle in despair Knight defend theme: Persist in hope Samurai defend theme: casually defending like they've done this every day
Always going hyped at the end phase, sadly I mostly get Viking songs both on attack and defense(the only faction I barely touched in all these years of For Honor) but when this song hits you can feel deep!

I look back at this comment and it hits me hard

The Samurai Defend theme is oddly calming.
Like you have one last chance to drive the Attackers back, and focus becomes the key to victory.

Whoever was tasked to create The Myre in For Honor, definitely did a great job, both at lore and music phases!
Just did a match and heard this track, that last minute though is just amazing and got me really pumped.
Best update for this game tbh.

why is that commander in the pic holding a longsword though ?
when the update first came out there was a bug where the commanders all held the Knight weapon model regardless of faction. It ended up getting fixed
