Lived in Conroe for my entire life pretty much, I left a few months ago to join the Army, and I miss it and my family down there a lot. Can't wait to go back permanently after my contract.

I think a huge young crowd is moving to Conroe. There are a few communities with seniors but I would say good mix.
What is the Airbnb/Vrbo market like on and around Lake Conroe?

Conroe has DOUBLED property taxes and is finding any and every reason to tell people why they (people) can't dispute the tax. For example, they told us that our house doesn't exist, so since there is no house we can't dispute taxes. Our house has been here for 25 years. Even once we proved our house is here to Conroe, the city told us that we now have to prove it to the county.
Wow never heard of that. Seems like you could just take the tax bill they sent to you to prove the house existed.

I have passed through Conroe a few times and I loved it. I was looking into moving there so thanks for the information. My biggest fear is spider 🕷 I hope there aren't many there

They give me the shudders myself- & there can be a lot here, but I’ve also seen all kinds of creepies in the DFW area.
The housing prices in Conroe are excellent. I reside in the Pacific Northwest where housing prices are ridiculously overpriced. A 2,000 square foot home with little to no back yard starts out at over 400k. Most of the homes in the Lakewood-Tacoma area over 40 years old and not in the best condition, zero central air, poor ventilation, and horrible parking is what you can look forward too.

I don’t do anything inside. I spray quart key outside.
hello i am thinking of writing a novel that takes place in conroe texas, is there anything i should know about this place that would make my novel more realistic? i do acknowledge that its kind of dumb to make a novel take place somewhere you have never been (im canadian) but what im writing seems like it would fit perfectly here.
maybe talk about how this place is growing tremendously and how it has doubled in a couple of years. Neighborhoods are being built like crazy.

Me and my fiance plan on moving to the area within a few years to purchase our forever home. We are coming from Nashville,TN! We are not big fans of HOAs but understand we may be limiting ourselves going that route; Any specific neighborhoods/HOAs that aren't too controlling with the rules? We are not fans of purchasing a home only to be told we can only paint your house this color, can't leave this on the porch, no American flags, etc. etc. Advice?

I don’t like that many of the smaller track homes don’t have good sheathing. They have that thermo ply cardboard junk instead of osb. They’re doing this all of Texas on the cheaper homes.

@@LivingInHoustonTexas yes but many builders don’t use it. Unless it’s higher end homes. It was a standard at one point.
I grew up there and had a good childhood in that town but its, been since 2017 that i lived there and now i avoid it at all cost. as soon as you enter montgomery county on the 105 side there are conroe cops everywhere. every year their jurisdiction gets farther and they sign on for more patrol cars and they make a killing issuing tickets. ive paid thousands for minor speeding tickets and have been pulled out of my car on the busy 105 and searched by 3 patrol cars. 3!. they thought i was on narcotics because i swerved out of my lane a couple times ever so slightly while picking music. i was there just last week and as soon as i exited 105 to go towards austin as was at a red light with a cop staring me up and down and then proceeded to hang in my blind spot and monitor my driving looking for the slightest slip up to justify pulling me over. im a young white male mind you. so its not racial. they are just a for profit department and throw tickets out like hot cakes. its so bad that i completely go around it through houston to get to my dads in the woodlands. if you drive through that place at night after 9pm you will probably get pulled over if you just barely slip up. ive lived in cypress, the woodlands, spring, montgomery, college station and austin and nowhere have i experienced such a heavy police presence. do not live here.

@@LivingInHoustonTexas its not an issue of speeding. they will monitor your driving until you barely mess up. ive spent over 20 years in conroe. countless times ive been harassed by patrol officers for no good reason. i avoid that town at all cost. not worth it

My new 2021 two story home is only 275,000. I just moved into a brand new subdivision called, Caney Mills.
I will not deny the housing market is INSANE, however, we found a new build, 4bd 2ba in the outskirts of Conroe for 220k

I don’t know why anyone would want to live in Conroe it’s an old sawmill town that has the infrastructure for maximum 30.000 that’s now trying to deal with 100.000 !and she’s not being completely honest about the crime and it’s getting worse!
