Oh man, this is right where I grew up. The rigs are coming down Thiells Mt Ivy Road, which my neighborhood was off of just a little further up the road from the firehouse. That Park & Ride that you have your back to is where my mom would take the bus every day into the city. Great clip, thanks so much for sharing!
So these “tankers” have to be companies messing with their ISO ratings right? Because if I ask for a tanker and my company’s engine rocks up as the tanker I’d be more than confused. Where I’m from 1800 gallons is the minimum for a tanker with most being around 2000-2500 gallons and two topping out at 4000 gallons.
No, it doesn't have anything to do with ISO ratings. Those are assigned based on the actual equipment carried on the apparatus, not their radio designation. NFPA's minimum requirements for tankers allow any apparatus that carries at least 1000 gallons of water to be designated a tanker, along with some other requirements based around the pump and hose that they carry. This is probably simply outdated, coming from a time when 1000 gallons was a lot of water to carry. Aside from NFPA's regulations allowing it, it's probably mostly tradition in Rockland County. As most of the legitimate tankers have been phased out in favor of engines - being that the overwhelming majority of the county is now hydranted - the apparatus continue to bear the same designations through multiple generations. And with most of the county having hydrants, you would rarely run into a problem where you ask for a tanker and get an engine. It is strange, but every area has their quirks.
Thanks! They use it primarily to transport members to and from parades and events. It might very rarely respond to a call by special request to carry people or equipment, but certainly not very often.

I don’t know how that’s a tanker but ok
In rockland county almost all trucks over a 1000 Gallon water tank are considered tankers
