Great to see someone under 60 taking an interest in the fundamentals of communications technology. There were some smart cookies back then we should respect and honor. Last year I built a working Marconi type magnetic detector... A more difficult task, but I have 50+ years of experience to build on.. No doubt you could do the same with enough motivation.
This is a great video, your RF set looks great. I built a coherer detector as well recently, triggered by your video. It does detect radio waves when adjusted properly, even in the 144 MHz (2M) radio band when strong enough.
My son, who is all of seven just put together his first home made telegraph transmitter today, now we are working on a relay and then a receiver. It's fun to see someone interested in old school, but still useful, technology.
You forgot about Jozef Murgaš. He contributed to wireless telegraphy and helped in the development of mobile communications and the wireless transmission of information and the human voice.
JC. Bose is known as the father of wireless telecommunication. He had invented the Mercury Coherer, a radio wave receiver that was used by Guglielmo Marconi to build an operational two-way radio. While Marconi was celebrated for his invention, Bose remained unknown to many, as he never patented his work.
I'm curious about how the bell stops ringing when you release the spark button. Although it seems like pressing the button completes the circuit, something must be happening when you let go to interrupt the flow and silence the bell. Could you explain this process in more detail?
What is the purpose of using a relay in this setup? It seems like the two batteries share the same characteristics so it's not as if you need to use a low voltage system to control a high voltage system. But I have always found even basic electronics difficult to wrap my head around so I'm likely missing something fundamental here.
Great video, Ty! Your workmanship and explanation are both first rate. Did you make the spark gap transmitter too? The wood looks authentic to the period. The earliest receiver around here has a crystal detector. Otherwise I have standard vacuum tubes in TRF, Regenerative, and Superheterodyne radios. Check my UA-cam and Flikr sites to see a few radios. You are on the right track. If you want to really understand and appreciate modern electronics you need to first go back to the early technology. Fun stuff!
Thanks Ken! Yes, I built the transmitter as well, I've had that for a while and need to make a video of it someday! I also did some distance tests of this system outside, which I need to edit and post as well.
Great project! You should send some Morse code with it! Try CQD - the distress csllthe Titanic sent as she sank. It would be: Dadidadit dadadidah dadidit.
you could probably only send 4 or 5 wpm on this, but it'd be a whole lot more fun and fascinating than a cabinet full of microchips straight from the factory
Hello! My name is Yulia, I am a producer on the Russian channel REN TV. We would like to use this video for our new educational program. please tell me how possible this is? thanks for the answer
Congratulations! You invented the same thing that my fellow citizen Marconi had already invented about two centuries ago! Unfortunately, however, your device does not seem to faithfully respond to short points of the Morse alphabet, while the Marconi's does. I mean: "did", sorry ;) (what is the exact function of relay??? Is it really necessary??)
In Italy we use to call Temistocle Calzecchi-Onesti as the inventor of the Coherer, as he published papers about it in 1884-86
Subbed! Love seeing this as a ham radio enthusiast. Love the old history, thanks so much for this video!

Can you make a video on yours?

Very nice, you can use car ignition coil to create spark gap transmitter
Your creation is beautiful. Thumbs Up.
This was fun to watch and quite informative as well! Great work!
It's soooooooooooo beautiful hope I too had a set like this
Great video well executed
Congratulations! Lovely looking gear, working a treat. Lucid explanation. 110% AOK - keep it up! Best wishes, Norman G4LQF.
Very cool! Beautiful looking machine and great explanation. Thank you.
That’s amazing keep up the great work. I love seeing another telegraph enthusiast online. By the way your drawing is incredible.
Nice work!
Awesome dude congrats
Great project! 👍
Great project and the style of the construction is outstanding. You have a new subscriber
I’ve been watching you since I was 9 and I’ve learned a lot about a lot
Very well done.
Wow , love it
Nice work 👌👌👌
Wow, that is so interesting)
Good job👍🏾
This is really great stuff. So entertaining. I'm into Marconi radio these days, also last year when the lockdown broke out.
great job!!
Awesome!!
Nice. I really think Sir Oliver Lodge who coined the term coherer deserved a mention.
hahah you must be one of the decentants, otherwise its true sir Lodge is underated
Respect !!!
Awesome
good job. :)
We like this video.

Great! How about Lightning, can it receive the spark of Lightning and in how long distance?

Hi me would be interested in what kind of performance you use in the transmitter and I would still like to see the transmitter's plain

Do you need 2 batteries? Was that part of some original design? It seems it would work with just one. Unless you need the current.
So coOL....Steam punk....I give this video, 1 sucker arm, UP.
Wonderfull!! But would possible you explain the transmisspr???

did you make the video on how to make the transimiter

War Planner •••---••• SOS!

what is the range

Hi I was wondering if I can purchase your whole set name your price
You Robert about Tesla Marconi used his patents
Congratulations!

How did u grand knows
It's illegal to use the spark transmitters
Hello. Are you willing to sell the device for me? How much it would cost?
You can made one. M
I made one ua-cam.com/video/mmZMG51MkCo/v-deo.html
Jump scare at 7:04
I think you forget j. c. Bose
The most difficult in this beautiful project is finding an antique electric bell...
1:37 Marconi did not invent this, Popov in Russia did first.
In Russia, coherer operate YOU.
Please anyone can reply me for next year. Thanks
Who else is here just bec titanic...
Me
... no one. What does this have to do with Titanic?
