I'm 15 and only got into hockey last year (I'm English, its not very popular over here). I never even heard of the Stanley Cup before last summer but now hockey is more to me than life itself. Every time I watch this I cry just as much as Peluso was doing. I hope to see a Devils Stanley Cup win now I'm a fan. To the future! LET'S GO DEVILS.
ive always been a devils supporter and i watched them win the cup in 2003 with my dad on tv but havent watched much after that. until 2 seasons ago. i am now spending any disposable income on driving 2 1/2 hours to new jersey to watch them whenever i can and its everything to me. #godevils
Wasn't alive when this happened. Never saw the Devils win the cup. I'm only 14, but this is my favorite hockey moment ever. Just seeing Peluso crying at the end shows that this wasn't just any game for the Devils. It shows that it meant more than THEM being a champion, but that the WHOLE TEAM were champions! Let's hope 1995 comes again, I'd love to see that fourth Stanley Cup!
"In the last game against Detroit, the time from ten minutes left to one minute left was probably the longest nine minutes of my life. But from one to zero was probably the greatest time I've ever had. I didn't want the clock to run out. It was such a great feeling: people crying in the stands, people jumping up and down, people cheering. Guys couldn't even sit up on the bench. It was probably the best minute of my life. " - Martin Brodeur
greg zoller I wonder what his emotions was like being that he was the regular play by play man for the Devils and he was commentating on a national broadcast. He had to be so proud and probably wanted to let a litter homer out, but had to keep it professional
At 5:38 you see a shot of Viacheslav Fetisov. He started the season with New Jersey and was traded to Detroit later that year. Ironic. Luckily for him, he would win 2 Stanley Cups with the Red Wings before retiring and pursuing a coaching career, then won another Cup as the Devils assistant coach in 2000.
I remember the first year when the Devils were new and had a bad team. Seeing them struggle year and year made winning this first Stanley Cup so special.
I've been a Devils fan since Chico Resch was in goal and when just getting into the playoffs was a milestone. When I watched this (especially after how the Devils lost in 94), words couldn't express just how awesome this was.
My dad told me that he went to this game and his good buddy worked with the devils in the 95 run and he brought that very cup to the Big Apple here in Bayonne NJ. Come on guys you can get back there again, you have the right pieces just put it together. LETS GO DEVILS!
@Rvd420WHAT : Have to agree with you on that Mike Emrick is truly great. I love Peter Maher since I am a Calgary Flames fan but Mike is something else. He is like the Wayne Gretzky of sports announcing, he alwas deliveres.
Damn, that was awesome. Brings back memories. This was when I was first getting into hockey as a kid. I think I appreciate it more now watching it then I did then. I got goosebumps as the fans started counting down the clock. It doesn't get any better than that. Let's go Devils!
Oh man, I can still remember not being able to sleep that night. Just totally bummed. It felt like the Wings were a lock to win that year and NJ just came in and crushed ass. I'm just glad the Wings were able to get it done two years later.
Remember watching this then 15 min later hearing all my street hockey friends in the neiborhood skating down the street yelling the devils won !! What an amazing year I was so proud to be a devils fan.
Sweeps in the Finals are so interesting. It's amazing how often the team that gets swept just demolished the competition before hand and the team that did the sweeping got to the final ok but didn't sweep anybody else.
That was pretty good Detroit team the devil's sweep as well I was surprised they did sweep them I didn't think they sweep them winning the championship 94 season started the devil's run
I remember watching this series when I was 5 years old. This series was what introduced me to hockey. This series is what made me a Devils fan. This series is why I played hockey for 15 years.
Great memories that year. When i saw game 3 and the AZZ Whoopin the Devils inflicted on the heavily favorite Red Wings, i was convinced the got the cup. Still brings tears of joy whenever i think of their cup run.
I was there and spent the last five minutes in a catatonic state. I couldn’t believe I was there for the final game. Definitely the best moment of the 11 years I had season tix to the Devils. The call “Last minute of play, one minute” will ring in my ears forever.
Watching this when it happened was truly satisfying. I was a lone Devils fan living in Texas, just after the Stars came to Dallas, and there were hockey fans in the city and most seemed to be Detroit fans before the Stars really established themselves. When sports bars were playing the Stanley Cup, most fans were in Detroit gear. When I saw Stevens destroy Kozlov early in the series, I swear you could see it in the Redwings' faces... Their confidence was stolen. Fear and doubt crept in... Then my underdog Devils sweep! One of the best sports watching experiences of my life.
I was 5 when this happened... so I really don't have the same memories that most of you do. Yet the sheer magnitude of this moment gives me chills. Simply amazing.
I was very spoiled during the Devils 5 Cup appearances and 3 wins from 1995 to 2012-. Hopefully, those days will be back soon, because there is no guarantee that it will ever happen again like this.
The first team in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup despite never having home ice advantage at any point in the playoffs...and they did it with incredible D and tons of heart. What a stunning upset this was!
Oh man were headed to the conference finals!! Man if we make it to the Cup finals and win it, would be amazing to hear Doc say those most awesome words again!!
The first memory I have as a redwings fan. I was 7 years old watching this game I remember it well bc it was the first time I seen my dad really angry turning off the tv. The following 20 years I would be spoiled as a wings fan. I’m 31 now
@norjak71 Actually, yes, they did. As a matter of fact, all three of the Devils' Stanley Cup victories were won while the Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) was in development. DVD's were introduced in 1995. Look it up.
Uh the Devils were smart enough to get rid of him as he clearly cost the Devils vs the Rags the year before. He was always a mistake waiting to happen.
Great moment for the Devils but also one of Doc Emrick's finest hours as a play-by-play guy. The best in the business by far; hockey's answer to Vin Scully.
I know I said this on the "Heaven" video, but it applies specifically to this game! June 24th, 1995 - I finished my High School graduation ceremony and went to Tully's Sports Bar in NY and watched them win Game 4 and sweep for the cup. Best day of my life before marriage/parenthood!
Just a hard working team! Broduer stick save will ALWAYS standout. Only his 2nd year in league. On paper Detroit was better but Devils rode C. Lemieux and solid S. Stevens. Tom Chambers Bill Guerin Randy McKay and Scott Neidermeyer. Had to beat Neely Jagr and Lindros.
It's interesting to see a Finals where one team dominated on their way to the finals losing only once or twice and sweeping at least once with the other doing well on the way to the Finals but not sweeping anybody and having *that* team do the sweeping. The 1983 Finals was like that. It must be so hard to not just lose in the Finals but lose more games there (and not win one) than the rest of your playoffs combined. From the Devils POV, they don't sweep anybody until the Finals and sweep the President Trophy winners who also dominated the playoffs.
We've got a few games to get back on track and get on a bit of a roll before the playoffs start. Better now than wiping out in the playoffs like we did in one of the first two rounds each of the past three years. We have a good team this year.. if they get their confidence back... look out
Neal Broten has the unique destinction of being the only American to win a Stanley Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal. Broten was on the 1980 Olympic Miracle on Ice team. I think he was the most succesful member of that team, very few made it to the NHL let alone had succesful NHL careers. Broten did.
This is how great it is to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs; even a badass grinder like Peluso can break down in emotions knowing that he was getting his 1st( & only )Stanley Cup:-)
The only Devils Stanley Cup championship that Doc Emerick would ever call (at least right now). The 2000 and 2003 cup wins were on ABC. The Devils made it to the Finals in 2012, but lost to the Los Angeles Kings, who were a really surprising team that season by the way. If the Devils ever win another Stanley Cup, Doc Emerick will most likely call it as the NHL is currently in the hands of NBC Sports and Emerick is their lead play-by-play.
I will ask it again and that is can we please get the yearly videos for our Stanley Cup teams released on blu-ray or whatever. Many will buy these again.
mt dad was there. i wasnt born tl about 8 months later. :( lol. i wish i could have been there with him and my grandpa. i got to my first SCF game this year. game 1. didint go well. lol LETS GO DEVILS!!!!!
@Rvd420WHAT No kidding! Mike Emrick is the greatest. I still get chills from his call on the Tim Thomas save on Steve Downie in Game 5 of the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals.
I remember watching this; it was during the shortened season in '95 & the Devils completely embarrassed the heavily-favoured Red Wings in a 4-game sweep. At the time, nobody could've envisioned the Devils ever winning the Cup until it actually happened & the way they did was a shocker to many. Although that Cup Final was a letdown for me, I still watched the whole Cup celebration afterward, it was kinda neat watching the Devils finally winning a Cup after 13 years of futility....
never heard of nhl before until my classmate told me about the stanley cup. he told me it was agains the new jersey devils vs the detroit red wings. i asked him who he think would win. he goes: ofc the red wings. so i said, ok. imma root for the devils! devils won 4-0, been cheering for the devils since! :)
I was 14 when I saw this. Its my favorite 1 of the 3. Those were fun days. Hockey was a lot different then. More defensive. goalies were amazing in these times. They created the trapezoid bc of Marty and his stick handling. He was like having a 3rd dman back there. In those days the goalies had to know how to handle the puck. This isn't so in todays hockey and that is bc of the trapezoid. IMO get ride of the Marty trap.
This one was sweet for Jersey given what happened the year before with the Heartbreaking loss in Game 7 to the Rangers. Little did anyone know at the time that this would be the beginning of a run of Stanley Cups the Devils would ultimately win.
"This year we've heard so much about lockouts and collective bargaining and hyperbaric chambers and left wing locks and neutral zone traps and boiled flying octopus!"
@TimFrith24 hes the devils announcer for almost all of there games, and yes he also is the play-by-play for versus and nbc he must rack up alot of frequent flier miles

Hey I'm diehard devils fan myself I do a live show through UA-cam called shot from the point
Let's go devils
Let's go WILD. THE STATE OF HOCKEY RULES!!!
Willie Stroker Not a Devils fan but being 100% NJ this makes me feel very proud
Wasn't alive when this happened. Never saw the Devils win the cup. I'm only 14, but this is my favorite hockey moment ever. Peluso was the best devil ever the whole crash line

My favorite memory of Lou's era! Thanks for everything, Lou!
growing up in the nyc metropolitan area I was lucky to have Doc Emerick call the devils games.
greg zoller I wonder what his emotions was like being that he was the regular play by play man for the Devils and he was commentating on a national broadcast. He had to be so proud and probably wanted to let a litter homer out, but had to keep it professional
Doc is the greatest voice in sports history as far as I'm concerned.
This was the first hockey game I ever watched. I am still a devil's fan today, 26 years later. Wow.
I was born in Jersey, and this team made me a hockey fan. I was 15 back then and it still brings me joy and great memories. Thank you 95 Devils
My dad told me that he went to this game and his good buddy worked with the devils in the 95 run and he brought that very cup to the Big Apple here in Bayonne NJ. Come on guys you can get back there again, you have the right pieces just put it together. LETS GO DEVILS!
This was hard on my little boy who loves DET. Poor kid was so upset. they were heavily favored to defeat NJ if i remember ?
That was the greatest moment ever
I never get tired of seeing this, after watching the Devils sucking for years and that bitter loss in 1994, this was the best.
@Rvd420WHAT : Have to agree with you on that Mike Emrick is truly great. I love Peter Maher since I am a Calgary Flames fan but Mike is something else. He is like the Wayne Gretzky of sports announcing, he alwas deliveres.

I was 12 when this happened. It was so, sooooo... 😢... beautiful!
I was 13 and I feel the same
21 years today !!!
I was there
+MyNameIsNidos Yup 20 years ago and I still watch it and get the same chills as though it happened today...Our Devils!
Oh man, I can still remember not being able to sleep that night. Just totally bummed. It felt like the Wings were a lock to win that year and NJ just came in and crushed ass. I'm just glad the Wings were able to get it done two years later.
Was happy to see a team with a line as tough as Peluso and McKay win it all.
Remember watching this then 15 min later hearing all my street hockey friends in the neiborhood skating down the street yelling the devils won !! What an amazing year I was so proud to be a devils fan.
And the Devils just kept on winning after this. 5 Stanley Cups appearances, and 3 cups in still less then 20 years now.
I smiled so wide just watching this that my cheeks squeezed tears from the corners of my eyes. Section 124. Row 24. Seat 4. That was my spot.
I was not alive but my dad was therw
Sweeps in the Finals are so interesting. It's amazing how often the team that gets swept just demolished the competition before hand and the team that did the sweeping got to the final ok but didn't sweep anybody else.

I was here too, what a night
Mike Peluso sobbing on the bench.
Gets me every time.
Was 10 years old and was there. One of the greatest memories of my life
So weird how the 90's just played themselves out so perfectly for almost every team involved... this was such a legitimately great team..
I was there and spent the last five minutes in a catatonic state. I couldn’t believe I was there for the final game. Definitely the best moment of the 11 years I had season tix to the Devils.

Met Peluso when I was 14 back in 95 and he was a great person and super nice. stayed till all the kids got stuff signed
Every Devil fan feels that way, too!!
GO DEVILS!!
I was a Devils fan and we celebrated with confetti when New Jersey won the 1995 Stanley Cup
I was 5 when this happened... so I really don't have the same memories that most of you do. Yet the sheer magnitude of this moment gives me chills. Simply amazing.
This was such a great moment in sports history.
Love this team 😃
whenever i see videos of all 3 cups i want to cry. lets do it one more time NJ 08!!!
It's not hard to argue. The wings and devils have been the two best franchises for the last twenty years. So it's a highly subjective topic.
I was very spoiled during the Devils 5 Cup appearances and 3 wins from 1995 to 2012-. Hopefully, those days will be back soon, because there is no guarantee that it will ever happen again like this.
first time i ever watched hockey, the memories!
Been a fan of this true sport ever since, the only sport worth being called a sport.
"THE CHAMPIONSHIP TO NEW JERSEY! THE DEVILS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!!!!!!!!!!"
Some good footage in this video, great video.
The first team in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup despite never having home ice advantage at any point in the playoffs...and they did it with incredible D and tons of heart. What a stunning upset this was!
Props to the Devils for what they accomplished last season. Totally didn't expect it. I think they surprised a lot of people.
25 years, wow. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Best moment ever. This never gets old.
Oh man were headed to the conference finals!! Man if we make it to the Cup finals and win it, would be amazing to hear Doc say those most awesome words again!!
I remember this like it was yesterday
The first memory I have as a redwings fan. I was 7 years old watching this game I remember it well bc it was the first time I seen my dad really angry turning off the tv. The following 20 years I would be spoiled as a wings fan. I’m 31 now

As a Wings fan it ripped my heart out. Devils, and Avs had our number.
The first of 3! The first is always special. I love this team ❤️
Those devil teams from 94/95 to 02/03 were so much fun to watch
@ 1:27 the chant started 1:30pm ET
"The Championship to New Jersey!!!!!
DEVILS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!!!!"
It was a great joy what the devil's was in the early 80s I stuffed from I was a rookiesvfan before they were devil's
...and I was there.
i get goosebumps when doc says "the championship to new jersey"
I remember that day what a great game
I just wish Fetisov was on our team...he deserved a ring, thankfully he got it with us as a coach in 2000.
Uh the Devils were smart enough to get rid of him as he clearly cost the Devils vs the Rags the year before. He was always a mistake waiting to happen.
Great moment for the Devils but also one of Doc Emrick's finest hours as a play-by-play guy. The best in the business by far; hockey's answer to Vin Scully.
thats why i like nj, thier players are all great to watch

This is grade-A commentary. Doc Emerick truly is one of the greatest play-by-play announcers ever

@Rvd420WHAT No kidding! Mike Emrick is the greatest. I still get chills from his call on the Tim Thomas save on Steve Downie in Game 5 of the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals.
I still can't believe our season ended...
:(
Scotty Stevens pumped up in the celebration!
I was at Disney world when this game aired. Saw last 5 min in a cafeteria.
The best part and the part that matters most about competition is head to head and when the wings met the devils the wings got SWEPT!!! Go Devils
@ktw5086 And where else in East Rutherford, New Jersey do you propose they hold a parade? On the Turnpike?
I remember watching this; it was during the shortened season in '95 & the Devils completely embarrassed the heavily-favoured Red Wings in a 4-game sweep. At the time, nobody could've envisioned the Devils ever winning the Cup until it actually happened & the way they did was a shocker to many.

Oh, and you've gotta love Brylin! Still with the team!

25 years ago... this happened :)
what good yrs in the ny area rangers in 94 and the devils in 95 awesome and im not even into hockey
Here from 2023 waiting for the devils to win this year
This is the only time that the Stanley Cup was won on Fox
This one was sweet for Jersey given what happened the year before with the Heartbreaking loss in Game 7 to the Rangers. Little did anyone know at the time that this would be the beginning of a run of Stanley Cups the Devils would ultimately win.
"This year we've heard so much about lockouts and collective bargaining and hyperbaric chambers and left wing locks and neutral zone traps and boiled flying octopus!"
@TimFrith24 hes the devils announcer for almost all of there games, and yes he also is the play-by-play for versus and nbc he must rack up alot of frequent flier miles
new jersey devils for life.
Never realized the Devil's swept in '95. The first of hopefully a couple dozen
Sweeping a really good Detroit team was awesome
devils all the way 2012 stanley cup playoffs congrats on the cup DEVILS!!!!!!
