At least in the content I consume, definitely seeing a rise in this sentiment. I think more generally a lot of the web development boilerplate things as a whole (web apis, frontend frameworks, CRUD-style work, not learning/understanding abstractions that people use) is boring. Not sure if that's just plight of having more experience and wanting to work on more interesting and hard CS problems--or, if I am just watching too much of the Primeagen 🤣. It doesn't help that a growing number of tech content creators that focus on web-dev stuff peddle the same low-effort garbage content and upsell their courses in every turn, which then shows up on my feed for me to clean up.

taking the piss kinda, but you kinda are, lol.
Looks like I do front end kinda like you do. However I'm always in awe about those who can just rip through transitions, parallax, etc. Seems like it takes me longer than others to get that kind of stuff just knocked out.
Also, you *could* do data structures in algos on the front end, especially when dealing with timings and transitions, or data visualization.
That said, i get this is a clip, and is somewhat off the cuff, kinda like my comment. :D

What interests me about frontend isn't really the technology, or even that it's visual (though that helps). It's more that you're on the frontlines of user interaction, and you have the power to sway the product from half-assed uninspired utility to something that truly exemplifies good UX. Frontend engineers fill in the gaps that designers don't think about, and ultimately good user experience either shines or dies with us. There's too much bad software out there, not because the engineers are dumb but because they don't care about UX.

As an experienced FE dev, there will come a point that you can literally see a marksman of a bad at FE, okay at FE, good at FE and expert at FE.

I am not sure if its a phase but I feel the same way. I have been doing frontend for 3 years, I wrote some tooling for frontend which is more logic oriented than visual aspects and I loved it. I am not saying this is backend code but it's a step towards backend/tooling which have different challenges than frontend. I've been learning go for fun and I have been enjoying it a lot! I think I'm there as well. I've been doing frontend for almost three years. Actually, I didn't start my career as a frontend engineer. I was working on a project using django and jquery, and then I moved to another team and in the team, they was looking for a frontend engineer who was in charge of a new react project. As an entry developer, I really wanted to challenge new stuff and at that time, react hooks just came up and it so interested in me. It was an image tool and I liked creating the features of the tool like cropping images or calculates some stuff. I wouldn't say I'm enjoying backend development because in the backend development, more things get involved like database, network, devops and some more than I do in frontend. I'm in the phase right now where I think of I'm a really frontend engineer? because tbh, I don't like creating UI stuff and I don't think I have an eye for design, but I like coding some logical stuff but I wouldn't say I'm confident with it, like algorithm stuff. I don't know where I am. I know a little bit backend knowledge or cs stuff like I can develop simple servers for my toy project but it is not what I've been doing as a professional so, yes. I don't know. I'm just believing that if I get some experience more, I will figure out my strength and I'm hoping that I'm willing to work with other skills too like mobile, backend, not frontend stuff to find out what I really like. At the moment, I wouldn't say visual aspects is my thing. But the one thing I'm sure is that I enjoy coding, developing and working with other people together. It gives me motivation to keep working on it.

I interned at an MNC where my first training was in python, and I got a full grade. But the second training was in web dev, mostly frontend, and I could barely pass it!

In a sense that description of frontend sounds quite frustrating that you know what you want and it’s easy to express in natural language but the struggle is expressing it in code. At least I’d rather tackle problems that are difficult to tangle and process at first but once you have clarity, you don’t have to fight with the implementation.

I can relate to your liking of C. After video about "Abstraction Hell" I really felt heard. Even though I'm 1.5yoe frontend dev, I have urges to return to low-level stuff and it's probably because I don't have to guess what's happening when I code.
People around me thought I'm wasting my time when I was learning C/Assembly to understand DSA or things like window creation, http requests. However, I think it was what gave me the most confidence in my skills as a dev.
And for frontend it's just abstraction on top of abstraction, so it gets tricky to be certain about how React works, for example, and it will certainly take time to get familiar with all the concepts around rendering techniques, reasons to prefer one framework over another and so on. So that's what I mean when I say "having to guess what's happening". For someone familiar with Handmade Hero series, I feel like webdev lacks something like that, I dunno

The biggest challenges I've found until now, I've found in front end, the are a lot of things you can do wrong, there are so room to optimization. For example, right now, I'm rendering very complex trees. You have to use best practices and optimization technics. In fact, this is where I used dynamic programming for the first time in my career.

I hate frontend dev because they made it so complicated for no reason. when backend is simpler every day, frontend is harder and harder. You have a tone of files to create and company loves to use a lot of framework and library and at the end, add a simple feature with a simple REST call involve a tone of work (Redux...). Even testing is horrible.
I work with Java and Spring Boot and it's so simple compared to what I have to do with Angular, ,ngrx, angular material ...
I can do a complete application with one configuration file in Java fully tested.
When I have to work in frontend, there is a tone of files to configure Angular, Karma...

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🤔 *Frontend development may not be of interest to everyone, but it's still respected.*
00:27 🖌️ *Some find CSS and HTML less interesting, while others enjoy the visual aspect of coding.*
00:41 🧩 *JavaScript's dynamic typing can be a drawback for some developers.*
01:08 💻 *Low-level programming, like working with C, can be more appealing for certain individuals.*
01:22 📚 *Data structures, algorithms, and math are more prominent in backend and low-level development compared to frontend.*

I started with front-end and let me tell you; I hate it. I will never be a front-end dev. It is so boring to code things that have little to no logic, you just make things show up, move around, expand, etc etc.
Backend you have to write the logic for every single thing, you have to think why one way is better or worse than the other, it impacts your whole system and so idk, I just like it more.

      @jwoods9659 6 місяців тому +1

Yep,your not really learning how to code. I think all new devs should learn first how to setup a server and how to code logic to get a app and or site up. Then and only then work on the frontend.

Frontend developers can be replaced easily. Any decent react developer can pick up any react project quickly. On the other hand, even a very good backend developer can take a long time to understand a complex backend code base. Frontend works are also easier to be done by AI.

TypeScript though, is actually a very nice language and pretty much everyone uses it now. I wouldn't reply to a company that didn't use it or wasn't at least actively moving away from vanilla JS.

only a noob would use that sentence that made a login screen with chat gpt and start sucking AI's dck from there. I gave chatgpt to refactor 4 functions to make a separate function of a common logic used in all four and it took 10 different corrections from my end to fix it which would've take much less for me If I did it by myself. Last month of my chatgpt pro plan.

Well I'm a new developer and I had to take a break from it and learn some back-end things because your 100% correct until you become a senior level in front end your not really a engineer and what makes it worse is almost everything is focused on React.
