The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries.

    • @tylerhauns

The older you get the more you’ve seen which means your brain does not have to process and remember as much information (life feels fast). But when you are young and witnessing new things daily you brain is constantly remembering places and memories which “feels” slow. You just have to do more new things and break up your routine to slow down your perception of time.

"Our house is 7800sq feet, too much for this little vacuum!" That's 724sq meters Dan! That's massive, no wonder your energy bills are high! It is a beautifully built and decorated building and also a well earned investment, respect on that front. Zack should not be sold with the house!
For reference, an average home in UK is 1000->1400sq feet (93->130sq/m) and at the top end of that scale is about right for family of 5.
A big house is 1600->2000sq feet (150->186sq meters) and the sweet spot is 170sq/meters in my eyes. I can't afford one of those, but I can still dream.
Your current home is ace, but if you do move, would you consider building a smaller home next time around, thereby even more eco friendly? It doesn't need to be massive to be nice! Whatever you guys do, pls take us along for the ride where you can!
