    its so disturbing how performative a lot of peoples concerns about childrens safety online is. its easy to call a stranger a pedo, but a lot of people refuse to reckon with the facts when their friends are the ones posing a threat to minors.

    • @rannynihilius8481
      @rannynihilius8481 Місяць тому +1

      I think the worst is that situations like these aren't used to raise real awareness for the lack of child safety provided by the parents and social media platforms and instead primarely used to target completely unrelated groups of people.
      I've never seen anything comperable to the outrage at trans, gay, black people and co. get when a white person does the exact same thing.
      That the actual safety of our children or exploitation of others by people in power is a side event to anti-human culture war bs.

    • @discflame
      @discflame Місяць тому +464

      it's perhaps the most performative concern out there. if they really cared about protecting kids from predators they'd be advocating for teaching proper sex ed, teaching about consent and how predators are very often people they are related to, etc etc. I could go on. but you never see the "shoot your neighborhood pedo" brigade talking about these things.

      Reminds me of my grandma claiming haitian and cuban immigrants were all just a bunch of r*pists for literally no reason other than racism but when her husband was caught with a 10yo she completely denied it, defended him and called everyone a liar

    • @TehNoobiness
      @TehNoobiness Місяць тому

      It's a triple whammy. LGBT people get harassed, threatened, and attacked over this shit, actual abuse is reported less and less often, and abuse victims get to agonize over whether their experiences will be taken seriously at all, used as an excuse to spread xenophobia, or taken as an attempt to start another witch hunt. Nobody wins...except for abusers and fascists, anyway.

    I never looked fondly upon MrBeast for "building water wells". In university, there were always students participating in medical voluntourism. Theyd fundraise a couple thousands of dollars to fund their stupid trip to a poor nation to help build a water well. Sounds great right? No. Theyre not qualified whatsoever. All they did was make themselves feel better and to add to their application so they can get into med schools. (Except it actually hurts their chances at decent schools...)
    Their wells were never sustainable. Their schools were never sustainable. They dont get used by locals, they take away from the local economy, and these kids pat themselves on the back. Some of them actually end up killing locals because they pretend to be doctors.

      I will genuinely never understand why or how they've twisted his transphobic bs into something to pat him on the back for because the way it stands there's only two ways to interpret it; A) He did zero extra research and purely upon hearing Ava is trans decided to make a video acting like Jimmy and his friends are cartoon characters that should push her aside purely because it's "not good for branding," which is already a bad option by itself or B) even worse he *did* do extra research, discovered the pdf shit by himself a full year before anyone else, popped this hate boner for Ava and decided to make his video purely for clicks *but* actively avoided warning anyone about a pdf file being best friends with and working for one of the biggest kid's content youtubers on the site because it might've put even bigger damper on his numbers. • @jkishhabi
      @jkishhabi Місяць тому

      What even is that about? I mean hetero people raise kids of the opposite gender than themselves all of the time. What does being attracted to more than one gender have to do with being an adult raising children? Most adult people are not attracted to children in a sexual way, regardless of what gender or genders they are attracted to. Being straight or bisexual has nothing to do with attraction to minors. And any parent who struggles with being sexually attracted to their own children needs serious help and probably shouldn't be alone with their own children or any children.
      Being bisexual or pansexual doesn't turn someone into a sex crazed animal that wants to screw everyone they meet.
      To be at all consistent with their theories, they should be just as concerned that if you're straight you shouldn't be alone around children of the opposite gender as you might abuse them if you're attracted to the gender they happen to be. At least by their twisted logic.
      If that was a valid concern, then I guess the only safe people to be raising children are the asexuals.

      3. there's the idea that you'd rather be someplace else doing something different, but you just gotta stick with your current lot for awhile and get through it. Universally everyone does this.
      Thinking that the "right" job for you is one where you want to be there 100% of the time is delusional.

People just have difficulty imagining that donations of hundreds of thousands of dollars is a pittance to the truly rich. (One hundred thousand is literally 0.001% of a billion.) And I saw this all going down back when it happened as someone with no strong feelings about Mr. Beast at the time, to the point that it kinda turned me off him and I didn’t care all that much to begin with. Seeing how rabidly people bent over backwards for this dude I don’t think most of them have spoken to or really know just reeked of something being deeply wrong. Speaking as someone who also didn't know/care about him for a while (just watched video game or essay things so the "Live Challenge" stuff was never in my orbit aside from people doing them as one-off videos with friends), I feel like one of the weird moments from me was actually from the Ghost Kitchen video from Eddie Burback. In it, he basically talks about how various "restaurants" are in like, warehouses or inside of another restaurant, and the one thing I definitely remember was thinking while watching it "Huh, it feels weird seeing this random UA-camr just has a restaurant brand like this, especially since he's not a food person like Guy Fieri and such". Like it wasn't necessarily him doing anything bad (arguably Mr. Beast burgers was iffy because... the point of the episode), but it did stick out as "Oh huh, guess he is tied to questionable business practices". The one tweet of him also asking random people to make his chocolate bars look more presentable just also stuck out as odd, and while I can't find the video I remember one youtuber said they hated what Mr. Beast did with regards to how his influence affected UA-cam's algorithm. Like at no point did I see any of the actually awful stuff mentioned here, but from all the stuff I did see it was like "Oh, this guy somehow made it big and is definitely in it for the money now".

    like, we all know solitary confinement is bad. there’s a reason it’s used to punish people who are already serving a criminal sentence. but i don’t think many people appreciate the way that it can cause permanent psychological damage in mere days. the idea of ANYONE doing a month of solitary is fucking insane, and i don’t think many people fully realize that. and being asked to run a marathon on top of that???? professional runners train for weeks, if not months, for marathons- and it’s still utterly exhausting. again, i don’t think there’s a widespread awareness of how grueling it is. like, there’s a very good reason why the namesake of the “marathon” fucking DIED at the end of his run.

    the most frustrating thing about people transgender, is that on the occasion that another transgender person you have zero affiliation with does something actually shitty, people who were already looking for an excuse to attack trans people as a group will find a few cherry-picked examples and go "SEE WE WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG!".
    Imagine if this was done to any other group of people. Imagine if any time a Christian talked about their faith and identity, everyone immediately went "OH so you must be a pedophile, right? I mean look at all these Church sex scandals", and the thing is even considering faith leaders are over-represented in those cases, kinda fucked up to collectively punish a group of people based on the actions of folks who share one thing in common and zero affiliation.
    we do not have the benefit of being seen as individual people, only a monolith. doesn't matter that there are millions of us around the world, doesn't matter when cis people abuse trans people, or when trans people abuse other trans people for that matter. what people want is their biases confirmed, and trans people being like other people, means some of us do horrific things.
    we can call it out and avoid abusers, ask for accountability, etc. but once you make this about the abuser's identity, you are doing a disservice to the victims, because it was never about them for you, it was about grabbing ammunition to defend your bigotry.

    What people seem to not understand is that he was holding the prospect of a better future, the pursuit of happiness, over people's heads... there is no greater form of control than to hold someone's own future hostage. I don't think most people understand that money IS that exact thing, and we've tricked ourselves for generations that capitalism isn't form of control that drives technological progression and furthers the roots of exploitation that underpin the system.

    I loved Oneyplays but since DingDong and Julian left, it isn't for me, especially after Chris' statements on Shad. If you were made aware your friend drew nsfw of REAL LIFE KIDS why are you not stepping back and saying that's indefensible and messed up? I tried calling it out at the time too but I got dragged as well. I believe Julian specifically said he did not like Shad and that's one of the reasons I really liked DingDong and Julian. I have no idea why people like Shad were so normalized back then.

      Oney can be a very funny guy, but I never thought of him as someone who really had a lot of perspective on things, DingDong and Julian are a lot more grounded (And as much as Tomar and the others are funny, I think DD and J brought some balance.),
      He wasn't the only one either, the whole culture around Shad was so weird, I used to think it was just the L*lis, but he drew plenty of other shit, and it blows my mind anyone tried to defend it as an "edgy" humor even then. I'm glad internet is a bit past that, but history will probably repeat itself.
