- We had never heard of this incredible city before we started looking around the south of France. But WOAH, we are so glad we decided to swing passed and check it out. The medieval city of Carcassonne is honestly one of the best stops we have had so far! and may be the BEST castle in Europe and was certainly a hidden gem of France for us! (Although it seems to be well known to other Europeans! )
The castle is still in incredible condition and it was so interesting to walk around the ramparts and imagine what it would have been like in medieval times.
It also gave us amazing views of the city!
We had such a good day here!
Thanks for watching!

Puppies and castles - what's not to love?! 😍
Carcassonne is an amazing city and it's great that you found it. The Cite de Carcassonne (the medieval town) is actually not a castle rather a citadel or small medieval town. And it's in "amazing condition" because they restored it in the 19th century. Parts of the Cite date back to Roman times.
Thanks for letting us know! We felt so lucky we ended up in Carcassonne - had such a magical time there and hardly any tourists! 😊
'Restored' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there! but yeah, historically accurate or not, it's stunning to visit and see.
Bonjour! Wow, what a beautiful town. That castle was amazing, the turrets reminded me of Tallin (even though it’s not a castle). Your grandfather Emily would’ve loved the stained glass, it was so stunning the whole building. I can see why it’s a must see. We’ll have to add this to our bucket list. Great video. Stay safe, miss you both, love you.xx mum ❤️❤️ 🐌
Definitely add it to the bucket list. And we will come back here with you! 😄 ❤️ love you!
The place is quiet and beautiful!
It was so amazing 🤩
Great video.i drove past carcassonne last year on the way to argeles sur mer, must visit next time
Definitely! It's absolutely worth a walk around!
Amazing Cathedral..
It was breathtaking 😍😍
Greeting from USA! We were just there in May. Were staying in Narbonne and La Palme and exploring the area. We ate dinner twice at Ostal des Troubadours. Fantastic. I love the weird tingly feeling I get when I know I am walking on the exact same stones that people from 1300 were using for their daily lives and just how different it was then. Seeing all the arrow and sword holes in the structure was sad just knowing what a struggle it was to stay alive from other humans then.
It's crazy isn't it!? We also love that tingly feeling, and seeing things like the church, it's incredible now but it must have been unfathomably cool back in the day!
Struggling to stay alive? Like many amerikan inner cities today then?
Greetings from Carcassonne La Cite as its called was around before Disney ,But I'm glad you enjoyed it ,just curious when you filmed it as it was so quiet
That's so cool! We filmed this in early June!
Such a beautiful Medieval town. This maybe a role model city for Bana Hill French Village in Vietnam :))
Wow just looked up Bana Hill - so cute!!
Every man and his dog knows about Carcasone ,try visiting in August in the French holiday period its rammed
We had never heard of it! 🤯 can see why everyone likes it though its so cool!
I go there :)
Nice!
literally everyone I know, knows about Carcassonne. Its a citadel, not a castle
Thats craaaazzzyy...
Not a single person we know knows about Carcassone!
Carcassonne is a beautiful place to visit, I was last there nearly 30 years ago and would love to go back now, having not really appreciatted the place when I was just 15 years old - back then I was a fussy eater and of a gloomy nature, and the only thing that held my interest in the place then was the scenery for photography and sketching.
Being dragged around with my younger brother and sister was not my idea of a holiday and I wasn't particularly keen on the heat and sunshine.
I am surprised when people have not heard of Carcassonne as it is pretty much a Fairy Tale Castle with its conical turrets and stone bridge arches - it has featured in many films most naotably as Nottingham Castle in Kevin Costner's Robin Hood : Prince of Theives.
I also recommend visiters read Labyrinth by Kate Mosse - the author not the super model - which is set in and around the area.
I envy anyone that has plans to visit whilst the weather is good.
Thanks so much for all this info and recommendations 😊
Did you say Toolasse?
😨 I don't know haha
Robin Hood. Prince of Thieves 1991.
Nottingham Castle.
1199 A. D.
Regin of His Majesty King Richard the 1st. The Lionheart.
Kevin Costner.
Morgan Freeman.
Alan Rickman.
Nick Brimble.
Jack Wild.
Sean Connery.
Michael Mcshane.
Oh yeah.
I have watched 2010 Robin Hood.
Staring Russell Crowe.
We have the dvd of it.
I suppose to an Australian, Disney must appear the epitome of history.
What 😄
Wow lovely. I visited upper Normandy France 🇫🇷 in the northern part in 2018. Evreux France. 🇫🇷 Next time i visit France again it will definitely be this city in the southern end. I also went to Paris and went up the eiffel tower.
Ohhh we didn't get to northern France! It's on the list still! You'll definitely love Carcassonne next time you get to France! 🇫🇷
the correct questions is,.....why doesn't anyone visit Narbonne?
had to google this- but WOW why doesn't anyone visit there? 😍
I can also not believe you had never heard of Carcassonne before! But yes, Carcassonne will ruin you for any other Castle you Will visit in the Future. Nothing really compares to it... But if you're still in the area of Carcassonne: Lastours might come close! Greetings from Belgium 😁
We couldn’t believe we’d never heard of it either!! Such an awesome place 😍
We are in Belgium at the moment as well 👋
@@JordanandEmily what are you visiting in Belgium? As proud inhabitants of the Province of Limburg, we highly recommend the Abbey of Herkenrode and the Landcommandery of Alden Biesen. Two great medieval sites as well, although dwarfed by Carcassonne of course 😁 (we got videos on those if you're interested)
@@TheHistoryHikers We missed the Abbey of Herkenrode :(
We only saw Belgium very quickly because we were struggling to find accommodation in peak season!
But when we travel back through Europe we will be sure to try and get to see the Abbey!
I have a Hardback DORLING KINDERSLEY DK EYEWITNESS GUIDES Book of MEDIEVAL LIFE.

Why nobody comes here? Well, ask the thousands of tourists that come every day! If you hadn't heard of it before: shame on you! It is one of the most visited places in France.
is it!?
Girl calls biggest French fortress “cute”. No wonder she never heard of it. @It is so cool”
What an intellectual and cultural level 😂
Very cute and very cool. I guess you had to be there!
I wish France was a Monarch today.
Its such a shame its not.
😞😔👑⚔️🛡️⚜️⚜️⚜️
😄
Thanks.
COMING TO ISRAEL TEL AVIV
We would love to come to Tel Aviv one day 😍 any recommendations for if we do make it??
@@JordanandEmily for sure. There are some UA-cam travelers who have already been to Tel Aviv very much enjoyed
Why does nobody come here????? The place is an absolutely heaving tourist trap!!!! Unless you mean no Australians, as if everyone else is non human, which is getting things back to front or rather upside down. Which is hardly surprising, when you think where Australia is.
😆 😂
