@@burlhorse61 I think that’s why gary didn’t mention his name cuz it may be a bad rep for what he did for arsenal and the considerations of him for having a problem may make him look bad
No because he spent 4 years at Barcelona and then another 2 at Go Ahead Eagles and Gary said he retired 18 months after he was sold. It was Emmanuel Petit. "After being released by Chelsea, Petit rejected the chance to sign for Bolton Wanderers, and he announced his retirement on 20 January 2005 after failing to fully recover following knee surgery."
Brilliant episode. Would love to see more episodes with backroom staff. Don't often get to hear from them but they've seen it all and bring a different perspective
Overmars is 100% the player he mentioned indirectly. Did ACL at Ajax, Arsenal signed for 5 mil, successful for 2.5 years, gone to Barca for 25. And perennial injuries 18 months later
Overmars didnt "retire 18 months later" he had 4 years at Barca and 2 at Go Ahead Eagles. So for retiring 18 months after Arsenal sold him he musta had a double that had an extra 3 and half year career. It was Emmanuel Petit. "After being released by Chelsea, Petit rejected the chance to sign for Bolton Wanderers, and he announced his retirement on 20 January 2005 after failing to fully recover following knee surgery."
@@cryha8789 By that logic it wasnt Petit because he played for Barcelona for 1 season and then 3 at Chelsea but lets actually look at what he said. He specifically said an ACL 18 months before moving to Arsenal. Which Overmars did but Petit didnt. He said well known international, Overmars was CL winner with 30+ Caps (He missed Euro 96 and the run up to it thanks to that injury), Petit had
What a top bloke. What a great vid. That could have gone in for hours and I’d still have watched it. Awesome boys. Well done Foz and Tom. Gary Lewin - legend.
As a newly graduated physio listening to this! Wow, so much motivation and inspiration from one of the best! Thanks guys and Gary for this great episode!
Coming on to Eduardo at 51:00 it brakes my heart. He was my childhood idol, the reason I love number 24. Was soaking in every move him and Modric had. If there wasn't for butcher Taylor, I bet he'd go on to be an Arsenal legend. Such a good pod btw guys! Really loved the inside info
Such a world class player heading for greatness. Arsenal were top of the league before that game. Ruined the squad mentaly. I remember him scoring against us in the champions league years later and the home side celebrated his goal like it was an Arsenal goal . I want to say shaktar Donetsk or Spartak Moskow
Yeah, Dudu was a world-class talent sadly he did not have the opportunity to let the whole world recognize his talent. He certainly can score over 25 goals every season in EPL. What amazed me about his talent was that he had the ability to make everything move in slow motion when he was about to score the goals. As if he had extra time than most players have.
What I love about fozcast is that they brought something different to the table, an insight to the industry with peoples who are directly involved in football. You got a former teammate, physio, and doctor so far. What we need now is a chat with refs just to pick their brain on the decisions they made on the pitch.
Brilliant podcast Ben, love people like Gary that have a wealth of knowledge and experience and can give insight from a backroom perspective. Could have listened to his stories for another hour, make them longer. Well done, brilliant so far, keep it going Fozzie 👍👏
Best one of your podcasts yet we need more guests like this their perspective is so unique and important. Zaf Iqbal old Liverpool physio would be an interesting one for me personally 🤣
So interesting ! You defo need to invite the chef and all those figures we don’t know about but play a huge role . This was eye opening to understand rotation, load, medical before signing and more. Huge. Thanks
Stephen Hughes left Arsenal to join Everton in 99. In 2001 he joined Watford. Broke his leg on his 8th appearance then joined Coventry. Arsenal invincible season was 03/04. One player who never gets mentioned is the right back Lauren who was a beast of a player.
Great pod cast Ben ,could leasten to him all day 👏 and you Ben, proper nice lad, keep it going, still a great keeper# 🐐💯%and great content with your go pro ,legend 👍
That was Brilliant! Yes, get a chef/nutritionist on the podcast. I always thought players had more individual diets until I saw your videos of the hotel buffets before a game....
Good going fella... I like the backstage perspective of any sport or vocation. I love to understand what goes into the prep and post performance procedure that professionals go through. The more we can garner the less we speculate...
Awesome podcast, love The Cycling GK and the Fozcast. Brilliant to hear Gary’s stories and insight. Love the guests and content, keep up the great work Ben, Rhinolegs and Frank! All the way from Cape Town.
During Arsene's Highbury days, Arsenal back then had it difficult, most teams made tackles intending to injure our players. Unlike now because there is nothing to fear or be jealous about anything Arsenal. Dudu was a world-class talent sadly he did not have the opportunity to let the whole world recognize his talent. He certainly can score over 25 goals every season in EPL. What amazed me about his talent was that he had the ability to make everything move in slow motion when he was about to score the goals. As if he had extra time than players around him. Thank you, Gary, I do appreciate your takes on what happened back then.
What a brilliant podcast to have listened to.. so insightful to that side of the game and to find out why decisions are made about players not playing etc for the fans. Would have loved to hear Gary Lewins side of the story about Abou Diaby and what problems he had.
The player Gary talks about at the end has to be Marc Overmars. Great pod guys. You need to in the future get Ray Parlour on stories are hilarious.
how do you figure that out?
@@burlhorse61 arsenal bought him for around 6-6 million then sold him to barcelona for 25 million then around 2 years later he kinda stopped playing
@@tonnowboonmee2815 great player though

I have one criticism - that was too short. Could listen to this for hours so insightful 👍 knocking it out of the park !!!
O
Love this kind of insight! Great choice of guests you lot x
The best podcast bromance
Please Ben, never retire!!

Clocked it straight away lool
I wasn't about for overmars but I figured it out in about 5minutes. I used Transfermarket around the late 90's and boom.
Gaz is an invincible too what a legend up there with pat rice.
I’m 41 now and feel as if I’ve known Gary Lewin all my life.
What a guy.

We would of won the league that year if he didn't break his leg

Gary Lewin an absolute Arsenal legend! Nice one Ben for getting Gary on the show

Love the fozcast, think you should get Carra and Nev on or Chris Kamara they would be wicked. Top result against norwich come on the boys 🐝
Ben’s use of the word ‘wicked’ has rubbed off on you

Was in awe of Gary’s memory until he started listing ‘invincible’ players who all finished about 5 years before the invincibles at 1:04:00 😅
and saying Rocky went to Newcastle, when he went to Leeds

Fantastic again, very interesting podcast and great to watch on UA-cam. Keep them coming 👍🙂
Really enjoyed this discussion FozTeam. Hope you keep bringing in people from behind the scenes. Maybe agents, refs, etc.

overmars or petit for the player at the end, i was only young when they were about so cant quite remember, more likely to be overmars
It was overmars mate
Overmars
