@@OverTake_gg That is a M-A-J-O-R (really big) mistake in the video that would sway many people to buy or not. Please edit video or title to represent this. Luckily I read comments to figure this out. Boo/Shame, otherwise very informative.
The problem is the company is sending their tested high quality pieces to reviewers and send defective and bad lenses to actual consumers that fall prey to their scamming practice with subpar customer service. Zero quality control. I and my friend both received bad headsets with lenses defective.
@ thanks for the reply, I am currently at work (extremely busy schedule as the holidays are approaching) but I am planning on making a video about it once I get the chance. I created a support ticket but after a week still no response. My left lens has extreme distortion. Was so excited to use the headset for the mafs24. Will be returning mine.
@@OverTake_gg Check out the r/Pimax subreddit, lots of reports there. Im on my 3rd unit and still having issues. BTW the lenses and cable are removable like on OG Crystal
@@sabirayaz7893 beware that it is the Pimax lenses, I have tried 2 of them including one of mine I just bought, the sweet spot is 30% of the lens, the outer edge is full of distortion and the remaining is not comparable to the quality of the sweet spot, they are all like that but otherwise why only they would use these phantom aspherical lenses and everyone else goes by Pancake 😂😂
My mate Ken (Brisbane iRacer) and I, both got PCL the same week. We both had lens issues with our new units. We got new lenses swapped in. They still had issues plus my unit felt laggy and made my eyes sore after 30mins. We both have refunded our PCLs. I will never give Pimax any more of my money. It seems like a lottery on whether you get a good unit or bad. As others have said, funny how reviewers seem to get good units. I am back to my trusty Quest 3 and Ken has also now bought a Quest 3.
I’ve been using a Pimax 5k+ for years and couldn’t race without it. There are definitely happy customers out there as well. Not excusing bad quality control however. Hoping my crystal super has no issues!
As many already commented very bad Quality Control on Pimax headsets just a few days ago watched another youtuber ( Get your game on) complaining about it. Just wait for Index 2 however long that takes Valve is top notch customer support or more budget option Quest 3.
Quest 3 is so good, I just wish Meta increase the resolution in the next headset and include a wired connection option and hopefully an Oled screen. The Q3 is really good though especially if you use Virtual Desktop app.
I was ready to buy one and i chickened out. Just to much bad PR . Then thought get a curved monitor so not to have to deal with triples. But the Samsung g9s have lots of problems. So now leaning towards a large Oled 55 INCH flat panel TV along with Tobi eye and head tracking till VR has a steady good product that is better then my Reverb witch will be dead after a update that i am holding off on.
Ditto, but I don't want to go back to triple monitors. I had a PCL in the cart and just didn't pull the trigger until I did more research. Unfortunately, the more research I do the more I'm hesitant to order one. I currently have a Reverb G2 which is OK, but of course if you update Windows 11 to 24H2 it becomes a brick. I'm thinking of trying a Quest 3 to just hold me over until something better and less customer service / quality risk associated with Pimax comes around. I even looked at a used Varjo Aero selling for about $1,000.00.
Yep, a used Reverb G2 is better than most of the options out there because it's so cheap and effective for VR racing. I would say the next logical upgrade would be Quest 3. What you get for going up to the Crystal Light is not quite worth the money, though it is better.
@bradpaca totally agree. If you can, get a second hand Varjo Aero. Been running mine for 2 years now and it's everything the crystal lite wants to be. Sadly is it discontinued but I still have no hesitation in recommending it. The next best thing imo is a quest 3 with a bobovr headstrap on a wifi 6 router running virtual desktop and a 4090. I have both and I'm shocked at how good the q3 is now. It's come such a long way. But take time to set it up correctly 😉
@@stevenlarson3316 I went back from Q3 to my Reverb g2. Just hated the compression artifacts + added latency. For only simming Quest is suboptimal tech. Yes, the lenses are amazing and it would be superb PCVR headset with native displayport option, but it just doesnt have that.
I ran in some trouble with the frist batch. But they fixed it and got some spare lenses and free headstrap. So not all is bad. Gotna good working headset and maybe im the Lucky one.😂
OG Crystal Ownwr here, even with a 4090 and AMD7800x3D, it absolutely pushes the hardware to the limit. it’s super fun once you have everything configured properly. to get the most out of it without comprising the picture quality, looks like we will need 9800x3D and 5090…. basically to get maximum immersion you need a proper sim racing rig, motion, at least a mid-range wheel base and high end PC and decent ear buds. Add them all up and I could almost buy used car and strip it down for the track.
Hi, How come in your Pimax device settings, you have Pimax Central Priority Rendering? I just bought a Crystal Light and have the latest Pimax Client and don't have that or Smart Smoothing.
I've watched videos on Pimax being horrendous with customer support and that their VRs tend to go bad after a while. I, of course, don't have first-hand experience because I don't own one. Just saying that this is what I found out about Pimax. Is this true?
Pimax is a lotto on whether you get a good unit. Stay away. Beyond have their IPD issues but once you get the correct face plate they seem bullet proof.
Plus you can run the Q3 with Virtual Desktop in VXDR mode i.e. OpenXr and implement fixed foveated rendering too. Honestly, more people should try Q3. Their hardware / lens quality is solid and continually releasing software updates. Lighter, cheaper and very capable.
@exponentialbet6292 Are you running at 1200mbps though? Am lucky enough to be running a 4090 with 7800X3D with 32 Gig Ram 6400Mhz CL30 and I actually can't tell any difference between wired vs wireless.
Once you go Pimax, you can never go back. And it will save you money (sort of): because you can't see reality, you won't be buying expensive steering wheels or other peripherals, nor expensive monitors. Great customer service too. Quality of the build is meh. I'll have to wait years for GPUs to catch up, but i can see the track like i would in real life and not miss a bit. Also, while racing, you can do side-by-side like you never thought possible - great fun and addictive
Good luck when it goes tits up and then Pimax does everything they can think of to avoid a warrantyreplacement. Over priced and made with weak components... won't last more than a year before it breaks.
