  • Grand View Point, positioned at the southernmost tip of the Island in the Sky scenic drive, offers an unparalleled vista that stretches across vast corrugated canyons. This panoramic overlook not only unveils the mesmerizing terrain of the White Rim four-wheel-drive road but also provides glimpses of features in The Maze and The Needles, along with distant mountain ranges. A convenient short, paved sidewalk guides visitors to the primary viewpoint, where the captivating scenery unfolds before them. For those seeking a more immersive experience, an additional mile of hiking leads to a second viewpoint, allowing a deeper connection with the stunning surroundings.
The trail to Grand View Point spans a roundtrip distance of 1.8 miles, presenting an accessible yet rewarding hike with a moderate time commitment of around 1.5 hours. The elevation change of 73 feet adds a subtle undulation to the journey, enhancing the overall hiking experience. This out-and-back trail is designed to showcase the canyon's edge, treating hikers to spectacular and ever-changing panoramic views that captivate the senses.
While the hike offers an easy difficulty level, it comes with its own set of challenges. The trail can be rough and uneven, involving navigation up and down rocky hills and stone steps. Unfortunately, these features render it inaccessible to wheelchairs. Additionally, in winter, hikers may encounter snow or icy conditions, making traction devices advisable for those venturing during colder months. Despite these considerations, the captivating scenery and the opportunity to witness geology talks by rangers during the spring through fall make Grand View Point a must-visit destination within the Island in the Sky region of the national park.
