I know basically zero music theory, as I never took formal lessons. Just learning that the number on a chord corresponds to the added note in that position of the scale, was a huge mind-blowing moment for me 🤣
I have resumed beginner piano lessons at the age of 70 partly because of your videos. I have a great tutor who is making it so fun, as have you! Thank you!
Wish you a speedy recovery. Take your time getting back to your usual productivity with your videos. Your subscribers won't mind waiting a few more weeks. I'm sure you realize that talking such long periods of time can be more stressful for some heart condition than walking and other physical exercises.
Glad that you are feeling better Rick and coming back with this video is really a gift. My older brother had his degree in music and although I just wanted to shred when I was younger he stressed to me the importance of theory especially learning on the keyboard because of the way that it's laid out. Keep up the great work my friend.
RICK BEATO, glad you’re okay!! LOVE the AI interaction, especially how you correct it. STRANGE how that contrast accents your beautiful soul. Way to keep on rocking’, man!
Well, this is timely. I'm a bass player / guitarist who used to be able to read some, but that was back in high school when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth. I've been working on learning keyboard and how to read music. AND I'm getting over the Covids, so I have free time. PS: So glad the surgery went well and your life will improve.
Glad that you are back and making content Rick! PLEASE do a video about music in current movie trailers -Nearly all have the same formula of taking a familiar or popular song that we've all heard before and dramatically reimagining/scoring it. There is nearly ALWAYS a solo'd piano prase or hanging vocal melody for dramatic effect. Once you hear it, you'll notice the same formula on EVERYTHING. Thank you!!!!!
You know, I was sitting at my piano last night looking through what lesson books we have to try and get back into it, and still felt like I was missing some stuff and you came to mind. Perfect timing. Thank you so much for what you do for the music world Rick!
I hope you're feeling well Rick. I love these lessons. It's great to get back to basics and think about what the bass movement of the chords are doing within a progression which create all these terrific slash chords. This is definitely the way forward to advancing your playing rather than just thinking all chords lowest notes must be the root. Keep up the amazing work. You're educating a new generation that will hopefully dive deep in and start appreciating some of the fundamentals to start writing better chord progressions in music again. Cheers, Dave.
Great video Rick! Great pacing and clear explanations. I've been a pianist/keyboardist for more years than I care to mention, and I've often been asked to teach, but I suck at it. I just want to fly through the basics quickly and I get frustrated when they don't pick up on it immediately. Your patience and explanations are awesome.
Happy to see, and hear, that your doing well. Stay well and enjoy your life. A day late watching this as I just got out of hospital because of my heart, hence ( truly ) happy to hear your feeling good.
So glad you are on the mend Rick! Love what you do as you have some of the most interesting content on music on UA-cam and I am a regular watcher. I really appreciate the time you take to keep making content! Please keep it up
Good to observe that returning youthful look I mentioned before! I wish my piano teacher, when I was a kid, had this kind of approach! It would have kept the interest high and I might have been a musician. Instead, I'm a keen eared non-musician!
Just bought my first keyboard from Facebook marketplace a few days ago. I was absolutely LOST trying to following along but it was fun being included. Can’t wait for the Alan Parson’s interview.
I’m 9 minutes in, and so far you have been interrupted 4 times by long-form commercials. Whatever you’ve taught thus far has been buried by UA-cam ads. Sub-optimal. - Fan from the beginning.
Love your videos. They make me ‘hear’ music better and deeper and as well as made me appreciate how much or how little work goes into songs . Keep well 😎😎
G'day Rick from Melbourne. Glad you are recovering well ❤ Thanks for some piano training. Any more piano on the way? Would be appreciated. Thanks again 😊
Like this video. I came back to comment, because this video led me to a bit of a breakthrough with chords. I'm going to watch it a few more times. I love the variety of videos you have. I hope you continue doing some composition and theory videos. TY.
There is an old song by the Dave Clark Five called "Because" that uses a great half step movements within the chord and other half step movements out of scale on the 6 on the tag. Just genius. Its really an augmented major 6 to augmented 6 to 7th move. Very Beatle-ish for its time, but beautiful.
Rick ! It’s great to see you back. I have a question for you? Why haven’t you have Randy Bachman as been interviewed by you! You have been so great at interviewing Canadians.
Congrats on your successful surgery, Rick! Glad to see you back in the chair!
Yes, gratefully .. 🙏
Glad to see you back, Rick! Make sure you don't overdo it. we want you to get well and stay well for a long long time!
Back in my day all Beato videos had whiteboards. Love this!! Glad you are recovering well Rick!
Not going to lie… I’m excited to watch this one. Thank you.
Speedy recovery sir.
Rick I am beyond glad you are feeling better and thank you for this! 🎉
Great to see you back Rick, I appreciate everything you do, you give true meaning to what music is really all about!
I know basically zero music theory, as I never took formal lessons. Just learning that the number on a chord corresponds to the added note in that position of the scale, was a huge mind-blowing moment for me 🤣
Same for me! Wow, it's nice to actually understand something!
what?
Watching Rick disagree with Chordie repeatedly is worth the price of admission. Glad youre feeling better, Professor.
Absolutely right. Got me laughing. Rick said, don’t pay attention to that it’s just they way they wrote the program ! lol.
As a piano dabbler rather than a guitar picker, this was a nice change of scenery.
These lectures are pure gold. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and appreciation for music👍🙏
So good to see you back!!

Me too and I am 72, youngster.

Glad to know you are better Rick.
Greetings from Spain ❤
Every time I see an ascending tritone interval, the fifth comes to mind right away. THE SIIIMPSONS!!!
Re: surgery and overall health - I'm so glad you are back and working! All the Good Things to you!

Wow! C to G is a perfect 5th in C major and also a perfect 5th in C minor.
This is cool!❤
Good to observe that returning youthful look I mentioned before!

Alex

Glad your recovery is going well, and thank you for all these fantastic videos and lessons!!!
Love ya Rick. You keep me motivated to keep learning guitar and you remind me how great music used to be. I love the music of the 90s content you do.
Great to have you back Rick ❤
Great to see you back in the saddle! You’ve convinced me to give music theory (which somehow eludes my otherwise fair brain) another go with this! 🎹
Glad you feeling better I wish for a fast recovery !!
Nice looking ten stop American Organ behind. Good to see you back again.
Just bought my first keyboard from Facebook marketplace a few days ago. I was absolutely LOST trying to following along but it was fun being included. Can’t wait for the Alan Parson’s interview.
