      Aye.
I'm hoping more people could see this.
While you might think most injuries and deaths in such incidents are cause by trampling, a lack of oxygen is often to blame. The crush of the crowd pushes against your chest and makes it hard to breathe. It takes 30 seconds before you lose consciousness, and around about six minutes, you're into compressive or restrictive asphyxia. That's a generally the attributed cause of death - not crushing, but suffocation,” he added. It can also cause head and neck injuries.

This is crucial, extraordinary evidence that by some miracle you happened to capture, that is going to either hold someone accountable or absolve them of liability. Please contact Seoul authorities immediately. You cannot count on them to find this on their own.

Watch the video at 2x speed starting from 25:30 facing west and you can see how the 'waves' of pressure is propogating through the crowd and it started getting chaotic. Then at 26:45 at the T-Junction, a girl appears to have passed out collapsing. Her friends tried to help her but the shear amount of people are pushing against them and almost stepping over her. After a while, they managed to clear a small circle around her at 27:05, giving her some space. But it didn't last long, more and more people just kept coming and squeezing into the junction.

Watch from the beginning of 23:00. There is a huge build up of people wanting to go into the "Atelier" store, the one with the grim reaper signage. This build up of people causes a huge blockage in this T-section, causing only a single file of people to be able to move out of the left road (left relative to facing the grim reaper building) to the slope.
At exactly 24:15, you see the last trickle of people moving out from the left road as they get blocked by people wanting to go into the left road. From that point on, the people wanting to go INTO the left road, the people wanting OUT of the left road, and the people WAITING to get into the grim reaper bar were all blocking each other.
From that point on, the flow was clogged, and the pressure started building up from all sides. Unfortunately, there was a group from the left road who started encouraging people to do a concerted push so that they can get out.

If you watch closely you can see a few people get consumed by the crowd. A woman stumbled and all the sudden the crowd surges forward and people must be walking on her or tumbling over her. You can see her hand reach out for her friend and he notices but is downstream of the crowd surge. Him and his friends appear to be trying to stop the crowd surge to get his friend upright but that also causes more congestion. It would be a nightmare to die like this. Literally be washed out by a sea of human bodies and (mostly) dying from asphyxiation

This should be useful to officials studying what happened. If one watches at 2x speed, one can clearly see that people were funneling into the downsloped alley from both sides. I heard that one person tripped, which created a domino effect, but this doesn’t appear to have happened during this video.

This happens at crowd crushes. Often the people at the back can't see or hear what's happening ahead, and since they still have the space to move forward, motivated by whatever reason, keep pushing and cause the density of people to increase.

    • @joshualoywaru
      @joshualoywaru 2 місяці тому

You cant blame their "common sense" in this situation. The crowd is too large in a super narrow specific area. I cannot describe it best but when someone enter the alley they find out that it stuck, but when try to head back another group of people do the same thing. over and over again until they try anything to get out the situation, including pusing forward.

People in the US where we have so much space even in urban areas don’t realize how crowded urban areas in densely populated countries like Korea and Japan and China can get. There sidewalks are always congested. So the people may not realize right away that something is seriously wrong until it is too late. It broke my heart to see how young the merrymakers were! 😢😱

It would scare me and make me feel claustrophobic, to be honest. The responsibility for safety there was the police, the authorities, not the people. Please pass this on to authorities this is legit best video of the incident online.
    1. There was way too much people there.
    2. When it hits just after 25mins it seems like there was a sort of ground tremor that kind of made everyone move in a wave position, it's strange cos no one is actually walking/pushing- it just looks like a wave movement and everyones body seems to have gone with that wave motion.
    3. When people started chanting, there was no way in hell anyone could have known what was happening in the alley at the bottom where the bottleneck of crushed people were starting to pile up.
    4. There were so many people that even if they knew what was happening at the bottom of alley, and people were to move back up it would have been too late and it could have possibly have been even more chaotic going back up the alley and possibly causing an actual stamped at top whilst people were already crushed at the bottom.

Those waves are probable caused by something small, like even just one person stumbling. It causes a ripple around her that spreads through the crowd as people tip over like dominoes. Then they all try to right themselves and sway together to and fro.

    • @bhadavss5642
      @bhadavss5642 2 роки тому +1

Basically when people start to move in very high density crowds, each individual physically doesn't have enough space around them to behave like a normal person who acts based on decisions anymore, but rather the entire crowd starts moving like a fluid, forced forward by the pressure of the people walking forwards behind them. We're talking densities of 5+ people per square meter (you can roughly equate 4 people per square meter to being in a tightly packed crowd but still being able to move 360 degrees, just brushing up on people on all 4 sides. At about 5-6 people/meter2 you start to lose that freedom of movement). The crowd starts to literally behave by the laws of fluid dynamics, and can experience shockwaves that ripple up and back through the mass of people when a push comes from any given direction... anyone who's been in a moshpit knows what I'm talking about.
These crowd densities aren't dangerous in themselves until you start reaching more than 8+ people/meter2 , however starting at about 5-6 they become extremely risky to facilitate movement in for two major reasons: 1) the risk of hitting a choke point and 2) the risk of someone falling over.

Ужас, как пережить родителям смерть детей, отправили погулять?! Соболезную Корея!!!

keep in mind a lot of the crowd wouldve been under the influence of alcohol and confused, not to mention the lack of oxygen in a crowd like that. i believe anyone smiling or pushing could be from panic or being under the influence and not understanding the harm they could cause. The lack of crowd control is to blame. Police received emergency calls with videos sent via text around 6.20pm, this couldve been prevented if the police intervened.

If I was there I would try to get in of these shops, I would either break the glass to create space or enter an already opened shop. If you watch the video, there is plenty of space on all sides (shops). The street is not a 100% locked street, its very sad people didn't use this opportunity.

With a crowd this dense, no one really has control of their own movement. The crowd begins to behave as a whole or fluid due to the weight exerted by the force of everyone else. The real issue here is lack of foresight, planning, and proper crowd control by local law enforcement. Really wish people would stop spouting their uneducated opinions and actually consider the dynamics at force with a crowd this large and dense. But I digress.

@@azucenas_ghost But isnt that caused by people pushing others and piling on top of each other though?
I remember being in a situation like this and before it gets to that point, it usually begins by a couple jerks pushing others from the back which results in a domino effect of everyone else pushing/ stumbling because of the pushing and losing any space they had. Everyone ends up getting squished while people from the back keep pushing to move foot traffic along. Keep in mind before any of this began there quite a bit of room for people to control their movements and people were following the normal flow of foot traffic instead of expediting it through force.
I actually fell and people literally started stepping on me or over me. I literally thought I was going to die that day. Even while screaming for people to stop, people wouldn’t stop the only thing that saved me was grabbing on to the people in front of me and pulling myself up. The worst part is that a 9 year old girl was almost trampled by her fellow peers and the teachers who were supposed to be looking after us didn’t even notice, even while I was shouting.
From that day onward I have always avoided crowds and I know that whenever stuff like this happens it’s a combination of self centered jerks causing chaos and poor crowd control to prevén or control said chaos. That and expect the worst from people especially in crowds.

Seems a lot of people are still confusing this as some type of event when it was not. It’s just a popular entertainment district and especially popular during Halloween no different than Las Vegas or Hollywood or even West Hollywood or downtown Pasadena. Lots of clubs, bars, and restaurants in the area from what I gather. That said, it was the local police duty to ensure proper crowd control and to set up rails to ensure foot traffic was guided properly in order to avoid this very issue. Most people have little control in a crowd such as this. You can only see so far ahead of you and the loudness of the crowd mixed with all the noise from the bars and clubs leave little room for people to properly communicate with each other. As more people spilled in from all the various directions, seems like it caused people to be pushed against this will and a crowd collapse as people started falling from the slippery street and the weight of the crowd. People further away have no idea this is happening and will just continue to move along with the crowd around them, further aggravating the weight on those stuck in a chokehold. Prayers for victims and their loved ones. May we learn to be more situationally aware and have the foresight to be wary and more cautious in this type of situations.

It could be like a parade and a route people follow with many chances to exit. Or a limited amount of expensive tickets people have to buy or stay home. The public transport system is awful and the buildings over crowded could cause a floor to cave in. Money from the tickets could go towards emergency and security services provided could be a way of stopping this from happening again. All my love sent to the people of Korea

The public transport was too maybe they could have a day for only children? A day for adults? Just a thought to maybe brake the crowd into groups there must be some sort of way to manage these situations better. Most people just seems to be out walking around not going anywhere in particular the same as Japan just sight seeing. If the country’s knew so many people wanted to be out on these days that different clubs would be doing different things they should maybe charge people and keep a lower number of people allowed to come with security and police to enforce it. I don’t know it’s just a thought I’m just expressing myself because I feel so much and I don’t know what to do. I just hope to god that this never happens again.

    Source:reddit
And the question is where's the possibility of the choke point and why?

Growing up my closest neighbors were a mile away, closest town was 10 minutes away and only has 600 people who lives there. I wouldn't have even gone down any of the alley roads, just by looking at the amount of people here. This is tragic and I am sadden to hear many lost their lives and many hurt from this. 😥😢 I pray this will be a lesson for the authorities to do better with crowd control during these events.
