The maxpedition ifak, that particular design is really great. I am glad that Maxpedition kept that design in their legacy series and didn't phase it out. They tried to come up with a newer version of that and it's pretty dysfunctional. I own 4 of their legacy series iFaks for different bags, purposes and they're hard to beat. I do purchase Maxpedition products from independent retailers and NOT Amazon. Amazon has destroyed the livelihoods of countless thousands of retailers! Amazon has its place but NOT for everything. I used to follow your channel and kind of forgot about you. Changed my UA-cam channel and forgot about many of the channels I subbed to . Very nice to know your still around.
My theory on get home bags, stuck, major things shut down, no communication, no credit card scanners, everyone trying to use their cell phone so the system is jammed. Air quality poor, dust, smoke, tear gas, in the air, natural gas leaks, and thousands trying to get somewhere on foot. This is not a hurricaine or a blizzard scenario, those have enough advance warning that if you are prepared yuo won't need to travel through the aftermath. This is freakin disaster unexpected. Riots, grid down, earthquake type stuff. Most important thing, intelligence and fitness. Second, proper PPE. Shoes, clothes, whatever else is needed. A fit person can walk 24 miles in 12 hours with just water breaks. Very little pack required, just a few liters of water. An extremely fit person can trot that distance in 5 hours with just water breaks. Most American's have never even attempted to walk 10 miles, and they'd need food almost hourly. If you stop to help another person you are now a group leader and it will take you a minimum of 3 days to travel 24 miles. If you need to use a tourniquet you are either a group leader or probably too injured to walk home. In the car do you have a tow strap? Sometimes that's all you need to avoid leaving it behind. Do you always wear shoes and socks that are good for a 20 mile hike? if not, are they in the vehicle with the pack? What about suitable clothes? Ready for the weather and other abuse type clothes. Will stones and bottles be thrown? Will a bandana be enough air filtration? Do you have a space set of glasses with you? Want goggles to reduce the tear gas/smoke/dust in your eyes? How about a bump cap to reduce injury from thrown bottles and rocks. Not a hard hat looking thing, but one that looks like a baseball cap. If it is just the car breaking down or an accident, there's typically help available. But if you have to leave the car, then you are in a crowd of refugees. Do you know alternate routes home? If X and Y bridge are out, or riots for 5 miles wide between you and home, do you know a way around? If you need to give up your wallet to get past a criminal roadblock, do you have another? Got family with you? That toddler will need to be carried or pushed in a stroller. When was the last time you carried a pack any significant distance? Strategy and tactics? Route, dealing with inevitable crowds, when to stop walking and hide, how much to share, willing to travel in the dark with just background light? willing to loot? (even taking water from the outside of a building using a faucet is lootin) When do you drop the pack for increased speed? Being chased, close to home, stopping to throw out weight every 3 miles? Will you become a group leader, or will you leave the unprepared for the National Guard to rescue? ME, I'm 65, walk 18 to 24 miles a week, with a 20 pound pack, on the road every day. And I don't think I could do 24 miles in 12 hours. Maybe 16 hours. But I know I'd leave a lot of guys with fancy packs in the dust, because I practice walking with a pack. This year I've been out when the wind chill was -35 and when the heat index was 110. If you haven't done the extremes with a pack, you should try. And as always, good luck. Fortuna Eruditis Favet.
Great kit but especially since you live in such a cold environment I would put that esbit stove and a stainless water bottle cup with lid or canteen cup with a lid and some bullion cubes or bullion powder, instant coffee, and some hot chocolate powder. Maybe use a GI canteen cup with a lid and the stove that nests around it and a pack of esbit tabs so you could also use wood if needed and use the esbit as a Firestarter. Include a bandana to handle a hot cup. I was in a light infantry division in the Army in Alaska for two years, hot liquids and the fats and sugar from the hot chocolate keep you warm, the caffeine in the coffee keeps you alert and moving. I would make "ranger mocha" with the instant coffee, sugar, and creamer from an MRE and mix it with a hot chocolate powder pack, and also make beef or chicken bullion soup to keep going and keep warm. A quarter to a third of a cheap Top Ramen seasoning packet in a canteen cup also makes a nice hot soup without taking up hardly any space.

add a Stainless steel cup for 5.00 that will nest in your water bottles if you have a second person with you or need to scoop water from a questionable source for your your filter bottle
Ben, great video. You are knowledgeable enough where these livestreams do not really require editing as you clearly follow through with the subject. I love the design of this bag as the outer pockets are what I call "well defined" as they hold their shape well and lend themselves for quick access to key items like the flashlight. Nothing worse than having to open up a loaded pack to access an inner pocket for an item in a hurry. I have "wrecked" the contents of my current bag a few times, trying to access an item at the bottom. As for the GHB FAK, I am a former EMT and have the tendency to keep a lot of FA supplies. I used to have a separate trauma and boo boo kit that I thought I would just attach both to the GHB if I needed to leave the vehicle. It was way too cumbersome. I opted for keeping a separate large trauma kit with 2 of everything for when I am with the vehicle. I took one of the IFAKs (Condor rip-away type) and made it to be a combo trauma and boo boo kit that would go on the outside of the GHB for ease of access and to make more room in the GHB for other items. If the GHB were really to be put into service, I would not want to be without some sort of trauma supplies.
Those Nite Ize cords are adjustable bungees. I think they're great. I have one of the big ones which I may have to use sometime but I like the smaller ones.
I have that same bag in the same color and I love it. This bag is a perfect size that you can expand by adding some Molly pouches. I combine mine with a Maxpidition Proteus waist pack and I can carry a good amount of stuff and still be light and comfortable.
I dunno man. Everything except water, food, and shelter? I think the focus is off. I have refocused my bags into the things we'll need most and that's the list. Basic tools and a med kit are a must but those other things need to come first, imho. Clothing is "shelter" so a skivvy roll, at a minimum, goes in each of our car bags. In the [New England] winter, I add better socks, gloves, a cap and hope we have good outer gear on and have dressed for the weather. Agree that the Typhoon makes an excellent car bag. Just big enough to fit the basics which keeps the weight under 20lbs, another important factor.
Just an honest suggestion so don’t take it wrong. I think you have a nice truck bag to fix things encountered on the road. But in my opinion you have missed the main point of the bag. It should contain things that can get you home. You should be able to toss this on your back and walk home. Think grid down, chaos, riots, war, invasion, national disaster. Everything inside is geared to your survival. Your walk could be in the mountains, desert, city. Your journey could be 4 miles on a city street, or 75 miles in forests. In most cases you will need much more water, food, shelter, and gear that will allow you to survive to get home.

I'm in southern Georgia and it stays pretty hot around here. I leave my Streamlight in my truck in a pull drawer and I've never had any issues.

Just a quick tip if one is ever walking on the side of road being rural, city, or highway, always face traffic gives you much more reaction time to adjust.Also of course give you and the road ample distance.Too many people have got killed because many drivers swerve off the road and kill a pedestrian. A tip for your Gerber Infantry from a fellow Michigander use Armor all on the hilt of the handle and the inside of the top of the sheath you'll won't believe how munch easier it draws out
I like the bag and wondering what size it is as I know as I found a simular pack and it comes in a few sizes ( 30-50 liter ) also what about food and a way to cook it or keep warm do you have a plan for them along with a sturdier shelter? Maxpedition is great. I have 3 bags and several pouches of different types. I’m frustrated with their marketing learning after buying from them on Amazon that I could have had two for one if I bought direct. Lot of money lost because of that! Their pouches are also expensive. Do you have a favored pouch option that’s cost effective?
How would you lock your bag from people who steal? And do you think your bag looks like the army bag? What I am saying is do you think you will be a target because your bag looks tactical? Overall great bag

No food ? Just throw some cliff bars or similar food. My thinking is, if there’s an emergency that’s caused me to abandon my vehicle, grab my get home bag and have to trek home, chances are I’m not going to be able to walk home in a straight line, might have to hunker down for a day or take a huge detour to avoid issues. Definitely need food.

@@livingsurvival I live on the rd out my jeep,camp all the time, even in snow belt country & not gonna abandon it, & all I need is a ride to my storage for all my bug out gear. I'm not saying don't be prepared like phone charger, & few things but not setting up any tarps along the road to get home. People are nosey enuff around here.
@@toddevans4667 and if a ride isn’t possible? The tarp is also a poncho in case it’s pouring rain and I need to walk somewhere. The chances are slim but it also helps keep my gear in the car organized.

It is imperative to not take things out of your get home bag and not get them back ln there. You need to depend on things being in there and if you need that compass it is useless if it is sitting on your bureau at home. Same for anything else that you have in there.
The kit your showing is definitely to much for get home kit set up . The purpose of a get home kit set up is to get home not stay and play . You can do 75% off the stuff you have in there . Have you tested situation before ? Before you build a pack its you should take a look at your travel home . And make a list of what you encounter then build a kit around that , no more then 18 lbs and thats on high side . And definitely want to try your gear on items that you will face . I would like to see you redo this video with a kit you will actually use
I have used most of the items in this kit numerous times. Getting home won't always be the same path. I work from home so I don't go to a job. Never know where I will be. There is no set situation for what I might face. My goal is to get to safety no matter if that is a ride, a building, other people or home.

Great ideas. I think I’m going to figure out a single wall bottle/cup system to replace the grayl for cooler months.

Thanks. Yeah not many trauma kits include a small boo boo kit but with kids I use it and refill it fairly often.

Suggestion, those bungy straps attach those tarp clips to them so they dont get lost or fall out when your digging around for some thing.

This is a get home or get rescued bag. So food isn’t really a concern. Not sure on the size. You could check Maxpedition website for typhon pack.

@@livingsurvival I live on the rd out my jeep,camp all the time, even in snow belt country & not gonna abandon it, & all I need is a ride to my storage for all my bug out gear. I'm not saying don't be prepared like phone charger, & few things but not setting up any tarps along the road to get home. People are nosey enuff around here.
@@toddevans4667 and if a ride isn’t possible? The tarp is also a poncho in case it’s pouring rain and I need to walk somewhere. The chances are slim but it also helps keep my gear in the car organized.

@@livingsurvival yup umbrella works also,been living out of car for years & delt with about almost everything. Then I would stay in car until I did. Since it is my home. Get a tow truck & a ride to a hotel.

I found Kize bars, which ounce for ounce, are better than Clif bars and the like. They have simple ingredients and are not overly sweet....[[|:-)

It is imperative to not take things out of your get home bag and not get them back ln there. You need to depend on things being in there and if you need that compass it is useless if it is sitting on your bureau at home. Same for anything else that you have in there.
True. If there is a emergency there is no time to fiddle fart around making sure you have all the supplies you need. just grab and go.

What size of Knipex pliers are those. I have the 71/4 and wonder if the smaller sized are worth it.
I have the smallest with no rubber handles and I think those are 4”. I think these are the 5”.

The kit your showing is definitely to much for get home kit set up . The purpose of a get home kit set up is to get home not stay and play . You can do 75% off the stuff you have in there . Have you tested situation before ? Before you build a pack its you should take a look at your travel home . And make a list of what you encounter then build a kit around that , no more then 18 lbs and thats on high side .
And definitely want to try your gear on items that you will face .

I have used most of the items in this kit numerous times. Getting home won't always be the same path. I work from home so I don't go to a job. Never know where I will be. There is no set situation for what I might face. My goal is to get to safety no matter if that is a ride, a building, other people or home.

Not trying to be funny but you will be home 9 hours of the day just Confused on that statement . But when you leave your house get home bag for your family is great idea . And a well stocked vehicle to full from enhances that .
