  • Airborne in 5 seconds and climbed strong. Some hesitation in the initial climb so pulled the power back a little and turned to downwind. Aircraft is docile to handle in flight and on the ground.

    Darren, on your downwind leg what airspeed and RPM are we seeing in this video? And is this the airspeed your airplane was rigged/trimmed for?

    Yours is by far my favorite LEXL so far. Well, I guess you are neck and neck with Les Homan’s Verner powered bird. Beautiful plane sir!

    Do you know how much power your half vw is making (assuming that's what you have there)? Looks like it does pretty good!

      Hey Jake. It is a 1/2 VW and puts out 45HP. You can build them but I purchased mine from Hummel Engines. Very helpful operation.

    Is it normal , your engine is shaking ?

      At certain rpm the engine vibrates more than others which is normal. The engine is mounted on rubber bushings which absorb the vibrational loads and allow for some movement which is what you see in the video. If the engine was bolted solidly to the airframe, it would transfer those forces directly to the fuselage and end up causing cracking and structural failures.

      I started in 2016 and took a couple of years to build part time. You can see the blog here: www.mykitlog.com/ontherun

    How can someone get training for a taildragger ultralight?

    • @DCSquared
      @DCSquared  3 роки тому

      Hey Richard. There are a number of 2 seater ultralights out there so maybe see if you can get a ride with a friendly owner to get a feel for how they fly. I got my tail wheel endorsement in a GA registered aircraft but you can also do this in a Recreational registered one too :)
