I googled it, ppl were saying that there is no camping now. Police have been knocking on camper doors at midnight or later telling them to move. Apparently trash was being left all over and someone dumped their black tank. I suggest you check before planning on staying there. Beautiful place what a shame.

You should have moved to Tampa already, according to your timeline, and now know that you don't need an address to find the Skyway Bridge . . . 🙂(He also gives great directions in this video as far as how to get there.) By now you know what I-75 is. Curious to see if you tried camping here yet? It has been my impression that you are NOT allowed to camp "overnight" at this location. (???)

I live in St Petersburg and they have been there almost every night making people leave. I fish down there and they said it was because people were leaving their trash behind and it's a mess. I fish down there and I see it. Today is sat march 26, 2022. a few months after you put your post up.
I always camp at the little islands off the dunedin causeway. We were leaving the island one time and I look back and my old buddy left his mic micdonalds trash everywhere. I made them go back and get it. They didn't think anything of it. I'm like "we get to camp on these islands for free yall need to pick up after yoursselfs" Not that hard.
Sadly this is not free camping. It’s not a camping spot at all. There are no signs that say no overnight parking and no signs that say no camping so I gave it a shot yesterday. there were several other people there sleeping as well. I slept in my truck but other people had actually pitched tents and some were in campers. At 2:30 AM the police officer came banging on everyone’s doors and windows and said…there is no overnight parking here, this is not a campground, pack it up and leave now. And he wasn’t very nice about it. Tons of people bring their campers and put up tents for the day but most leave by evening. It is not a problem to do it during the day but overnight you will probably get kicked out. And if you aren’t then you simply got lucky and either no one patrolled the area that night or the cop didn’t really care to enforce it.
I went there twice last year, not even being there for 30mins, BOTH times I got kick out. That is ridiculous, I didn't want to argue with the cops, but your right, their are no signs or anything indicating that you can't camp there. I would really like to know who you can talk with for more information...
As a local resident, i can tell you without question that camping is prohibited here. The place has been ruined by disrespectful people. Troopers will tell you you're trespassing after sunset.

Me too. Love the Skoolie. My parents had a 1955 bus that I was conceived in and later we camped every summer with it. So I have a great love for skoolies.
Overnight camping is prohibited there. The cops patrol the area and clear everyone out at night. You might get lucky and score a free night, but I wouldn't plan on it.

FYI, Keep this in mind: I live in the area and have boondocked on this Skyway South area several times. There will be times when they will not let you stay overnight and there are times when they don't bother you at all (like Holiday weekends when the fishing piers are jam packed).

@@Miketop728 Hi there! The Skyway bridge crosses Tampa Bay. The southern end ot the bridge has a large rest area and access to the old bridge. Hwy 275 south. This mainly a fishing area. There is a lot of area for parking and fishing. I've seen people posted up, apparently overnight. But have never planned a trip of my own. It's on my bucket list. Be aware that this relevant info is possibly a year old and may have changed. They may be enforcing "no overnight camping" since then.

This is not an overnight spot. There are signs, we live close with a fifth wheel and would love to overnight there but don't try. There's signs, but not in a good, easy to see spot but it's there and they will kick you out. Sorry to burst your bubble 😕
Ok thank you is the gulf side of flordia best for camping and boondocking because we are in Miami and there are really no camp grounds or places like that where you can sleep in your van camp etc

If you wath the video you will see the map that Fred shared. You can type into Google map and you will see the exact spot. I typed in: Manatee Country Rest area Interstate 275, Terra Ceia , FL That will be the rest area and the other side of the highway is the parkinglot. check the map and you will see it is next to the water : " S Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier"
Take i75 south to exit 93 towards st Pete go through ticket booth for skyway bridge take first exit for rest area go left under i275 and follow around over small bridge and then your there.
Is there anything wrong with hitting the fishing piers? I would hit that area to fish off the piers,is it safe? And can you sleep on the piers? Very informative video, thank you for your tour of the area. I had no idea there was free camping right by the bridge.
They used to accept bigger RVs, but no more. The rule was it had to be not too large to turn around at the end of the piers. When I first started looking into it, they accepted truck campers and vans, and it was about $10 for 24 hours, and you could come and go, to both north and south, during that 24 hours! Now, I think vans are allowed; not sure about Sprinter vans or larger Class B.
I imagine you are hearing their vehicles all night parked in that location and also breathing in their fumes if the winds are coming from the east which they do 2/3 of the time

I drive by every day for work and last week there was a class C there for six days. So I don’t understand.

no it is just for people fishing. Now camping is non existing. You can go spend the day there.

Actually i am on the fishing pier all night and I sleep like a baby when I am not fishing.
