Love my Rhite, it’s like a portable furnace that armors against the winter cold. That said, while the Mecpor 4.0 is waterproof, I’ve found that the facing fabric still absorbs a fair amount of water in anything more than a brief stint in moderate rain, which leads to some level of compromising of warmth and an annoying sogginess to the outside of the coat that takes a while to dry. In cold rain, the Veilance Monitor IS SL is kind of the best of best of all worlds. Long and insulated like The Watchman, waterproof like The Rhite, but with the bonus of a permanently beading surface that never absorbs any rain, is much more breathable than any other hardshell fabric, and doesn’t use any DWR, so it never has to be retreated.
Interesting. I found the D.DWR by Mectex on the Watchman to wet out but the MECPOR 4.0 is not treated with DWR as far as I can tell. The material itself isn’t waterproof but I believe due to the taped seams and additional layers it meets the “waterproof” definition. Unfamiliar with the brands unfortunately but I do agree it is like a furnace!
Oh boy! Wish I could comment on the other jackets but I’m out of my depth with Acronym and Veilance. Are they all waterproof? That’s major for me. Check out Mission Workshop’s subreddit. Many of the Redditors are Veilance fans and I’ve seen folks mention Acronym on their too. Maybe they can help steer you in the right direction.
Ok let me step in a clear up the purpose of the pockets being in the location that they are. The reason for their location comes from brands like Arcteryx who moved the location of their pockets up on their Alpha series jackets to they could still be accessed while using a backpack with a waste band. Keep in mind that this design is purely form over function. If you were strapped into a climbing harness while halfway up the Chief in Squamish higher pockets meant that you could still warm your hands, or reach your Clif Bar. The design trend for brands most technical pieces is to have the pockets higher up. Thanks Arcteryx! I LOVE MW clothing with all my heart but their technical features and design are for the urban lifestyle. That's why these pockets seem so foreign to most people who will buy this jacket. With that being said, those of us who do own a Rhite and cycle in the winter, XC Ski, hike, snowboard etc... you will love the fact that you can warm your hands while wearing your backpack. The location of the pockets is one of the main reason why I bought this jacket. MW uses some insanely cool materials but their products are still fashion over function. For those of us who live in the mountains of British Columbia this jacket is a fancy around town jacket (which is why I bought it) and I would never use it ski touring in the Rockies, or when temps dip below -30 Celsius.
@@MissionWorkshopReviews -30 is actually easier than you think because it is purely a dry cold. There is very little moisture in the air when it's that cold so you only really need to worry about wearing a jacket with some loft to trap the air that gets warmed by your body. If there is wind then you need to wear something that is windproof. If you are going around town, maybe to the dog park or something like that then the Rhite will be fine with a good set of gloves and a warm sweater or mid layer. I wear mine with a Northmar vest and an Arcteryx sweater. In my mind what makes the Rhite an around town jacket compared to other jackets that are meant for serious activity is that it's fit is a little too snug to fit over multiple mid layers, it lacks hood adjustments for serious wind, or to fit better over a ski/touring/climbing/bike helmet. The sleeves aren't long enough to shield the back of hands from weather, it lacks internal storage for your gloves, goggles, scarf, hat etc. For ultra cold activities the Alpha parka, or Alpha SV, or Macai from Arcteryx would work fine.
@@joshpalmer1106 I see. You’re from Bc yea? I’ve spent a lot of time in Alaska and while I stay mostly coastal and avoid the inland chill of Fairbanks, I’ve found the Rhite to be warm AF. But I see your point that the Rhite isn’t expedition ready like the other jackets.
@@MissionWorkshopReviews Alaska is Awesome! I'm originally from a small mountain town in the north of BC where we would get at least a couple weeks of -30 or colder each year. Sometimes as early as Halloween! Yes the Rhite is warm and damn does it ever look good! Especially for average life if AK or BC but yes, where it starts to lack is when you need a jacket to perform specific tasks (ie sports or activities) in a cold climate. To be clear I LOVE this jacket but the comments about the pockets show that it's intended use is a bit confusing for some. It is designed to be one of the most technically advanced jackets on the market which is reflected in the design choice of the pockets.
It’s been a while! I haven’t really picked up new gear from them. Ever since Covid they slowed down production and focused on their core products which I’ve reviewed already. I also moved last year and never set up my UA-cam studio. So…not saying never but no immediate plans.
@@MissionWorkshopReviews What's the name of the opening song for your videos? Absolutely love it and want to hear it all. And please make more videos when MW drops new gear. Love your vids, man.
@@yamahapilotlol. Oh man. I have no idea where I got that from. I picked it up when I first started in 2016 or so. I probably got it from a free music generator. Maybe from Andrew Applepie? As for videos…I haven’t made one in a couple years now. I moved and lost the rhythm. Can’t say I’ll never make another one but I’d have to set up my studio all over again lol and I just have NOT gotten around to it. Appreciate the support over the years.
@@MissionWorkshopReviews If you're not planning to create another MW video, perhaps you could explore a different type of UA-cam channel. Your skills are evident, and I believe you would approach it with a seasoned touch. Thanks for responding, and I wish you all the best.
Hello, How would I contact you? Maybe you would part with a few Arkiv accessories for my Radian? I’m going crazy over here trying to find an Arkiv Folio in HT-500, side zippered pouches, etc.., Thanks, Adam
Just checked, and they only have Arkiv Folio in grey. I’m about to buy a Radian in either black camo or HT500 black (used eBay), and wanted some Arkiv accessories. This hunt for Arkiv accessories is exhausting
I know, I know. But I just got it and figured I’d post a review anyway in case it was useful to someone. It’s still available on their website and it’s the dead of winter so maybe it’ll be just what someone needs.

I wish I had a use for a jacket like this. I live in central California. It’s 3:30pm, sunny and 65 on February 1st. Just can’t justify the cost.
Ya know, JC, as much as I love the Rhite, I’d prefer central California weather any day of the week! It’s freezing cold here in the nation’s capital.
Was super interested in this jacket. Trying to decide b/w MW, Veilance and Acronym is no easy task!

Interesting. Thanks for the input. Makes a lot of sense. Out of curiosity what does one wear when it’s -30°?

Hey Adam-I just checked mission workshop’s website and all the pieces you’re looking for are in stock.

@@adamcimino2143 the hunt is part of the fun. But also you can do mix and match. I’ve seen set ups with different colors and it looked cool.
It is kinda fun. Any Arkiv accessories you’d like to part with?

I did yes. About 20 lbs. Probably should’ve gotten a large.
