The DCF Resonance is sounding very digital. Beside that the synth sounds great. I think it is still not possible to emulate with 0dff to emulate VCF Resonance.
I didn’t know The Eighty had been released until Vicious Antelope sent me an email about a sale on new patches for it. Xils-Lab announced it in an email a few weeks ago, saying it was coming in a couple of weeks, but didn’t send anything once it became available - a missed opportunity. Looks king forward to trying it …
It’s technical, but zero-delay is a different (better) approach than oversampling. Oversampling is a fairly brute force way to simulate electronics. Plus it adds load to your CPU. Zero delay means using clever maths to more accurately model filters without the need for oversampling.
@@bigboxerable What are the drawbacks, if any? Curious why Urs Heckmann wouldn't choose this technique over oversampling in U/HE emulations? I've yet to hear anything approaching the quality of his synths, aside from maybe Gforce's Oberheim emulations.
If I was a plugin maker then the 1st thing I'd buy was something like PolyBrute 12 :) or MBF Synth Pro (which is nearly impossible to get). Don't get me wrong but in these sounds I hear a pretty big difference. Of course, for the end listeners it's almost no difference between a real CS-80 and this plugin. Good luck in the New Year!
How many CS-80 clones do we need? Why not do something really rare like the RMI Keyboard Computer, or the Yam GS-1? Thanks for the hard work but too many people are copying the same instruments. Prophet -10 would be interesting but yup, someone just put that one out. I'd take a DW8000.........................................................
Lovely film like advertising! It was like traveling in time when I was younger and didn't have a clue of synths prices or maintenance issues. I saw it I wanted so badly. I go to the movies these days and no longer feel like that times. Cogratulations ❤
@Paul_Y_T I presume you would require a hardware midi keyboard with poly aftertouch to be able to use the built in software poly aftertouch though yes?
@@maydaygoingdown5602 yes, got to have a way to get that individual note data into the plugin somehow. Unless they also offer faked poly-at using an approach like Tim Shoebridge came up with for his Polyphonic Pressure Generator.
@@laceacalinI'm totally "chill", just asking important questions, to which you - apparently - have no answers. Once I have those answers, I will decide whether I am interested in this VSTi.
For the last question, it will be available within a week or so. We still have work polishing the synth and finishing our website page. For the two first question, it's for you to judge. A virtual synth is not only about reproducing features, but mostly about the sound.
I didn't see where they showed any GUI on the entire video? I think that was just a mock 3D model of what their VST would look like as a real instrument.
I couldn't stop thinking about the woman that put the helmet on with the hose not connected to anything, and then in the next scene floating in space with the visor partially open. Took me out of the moment of admiring the synth.
Exactly! I’m not an AI hater -quite the contrary- but we’re still in the uncanny valley of incoherent nonsense, and it feels premature to use generative video for a product launch such as this. It’s very distracting.
That thing you call a woman is just a collection of pixels resembling a woman wearing a load more pixels resembling a helmet on her pixel head, placed in front of a background layer resembling outer space. I can assure you no pixels were harmed in the making of this illusion.
As others have stated: it's Van-G-elis not Van-J-elis. Since this synth most likely would be forgotten had he not created these iconic albums, it's best to get these details right -- since the majority of video watchers here are Mr. V fans (that's my guess, anyway). Also: the problem that this emulation can not solve is that the CS80 is an *instrument*, designed to be played intuitively, like a violin or a trumpet. That's why it was praised by Vangelis as the best synth he ever played. And this extra quality cannot be evoked by any emulation, because your fingers cannot touch and feel anything. I cannot judge this emulation on its merits musically, so please somebody who understands where I'm getting at chime in.
@@PsychologyAcademia Yes, certainly I do. But then again, I'm not trying to sell something while the correct pronunciation is but a few keystrokes away. I criticize sloppiness before you let potential customers see it.
If you would know anything about midi controllers, you would not write this. And important thing - it is about the sound. CS-80 has it sound and it can be totally different from Vangelis sounds. It can be very modern, gritty, harsh ... and complex
@@silspok Well, if you were to play the Eighty with a fully equipped midi keyboard that has all the features (polyphonic aftertouch, ribbon controller, an intuitive interface etc), you might approximate the results. But I've heard too much much played without the "instrument" interface, and it's just not the same. Also, kindly reserve your opinion about my knowledge until we have walked the proverbial mile in each other's shoes.
So, what is it? Very likely a plugin. So why create a virtual keyboard and a mass of sliders, a missing touch-ribbon controller then? Not impressed yet.
@@alandeacon1988 Yep. We can choose now between Cherry Audio, Arturia, Softube and Xils. They all have their quirks and features. So let’s hear how the new kid on the block sounds and performs. Looks promising.

Ex CS-80 owner here. I'm working on a CS-80 emulation myself, curious to see how you approached certain things and what things you did right.

Eddie Jobson.
I believe a synth like this needs to stand on its own without effects just like this one so bravo folks

It has effects. Chorus, Delay, Phaser, and Reverb. All on the lower left.

Thrilled! Can't wait! :-)
That first sound, originally by Eddy Jobson (UK). Brings back memories.. Wow!

Why would you want no oversampling? Won't that increase aliasing with any sort of non-linearity saturation emulation?
Depends how the nonlinearity or oscillator is designed
That give me a moments pause too... But I certainly didn't hear any aliasing in this short demo, so maybe it doesn't matter ;)

They should make a hardware panel that looks as awesome as that, to directly edit the VST. I’d pay bucks for that for sure.
